    Wemo stopped working

    • Written by from Reading

I have 3 WEMO switches, all was fine until I decided to upgrade to an Airport Extreme Timecapsule today. I go the TC working very quickly and have both the 5GHz and 2.4GHz networks working. My Apple TV, iPhone 5 and iPad work well. Plus my Macbook Pro is connected at about 450Mbps! Time for the Wemo devices - I reset them all to default and my iPhone 5 can detect them. Once I have configured them they fail to appear as a Wemo device, apart from on my old HTC desire S. C'mon Apple - it must be down to you guys?

    Does not work.

The app doesn't detect the device. I have to unplug the thing every time I want it to work which kind of negates the point of the whole exercise, being switching on and off remotely. And I paid €50, not $50!! Fool me once shame on you.... You're not fooling me twice. Bad Belkin.

Some WeMo switches work well. Others, apparently do not work.

Right out of the box, tried in my home network, my second house network, my friend's network and nada. I did all I was supposed to do except deep it in hot oil or replace all the routers the modems the cables and the security cameras in my house. And yes, the whole concept it's awesome and unique. Works well for some... Does not work for others. I am waiting for a replacement.
    Wish me luck!

    Firmware Issues

Purchases the WeMo Switch without motion detection for $49.99 yesterday. Took only a few minutes to set it up which I was impressed by. Simply opened it up, plugged it in, along with my desk lamp, connected to it through the wifi settings on my iPhone, downloaded the app and that was it. Easy. The problem started when I was unable to change settings because of the outdated firmware. I proceeded to update the firmware which is ABSOLUTELY necessary if you wish to actually use this thing to its full advantage. After a five minute firmware upgrade the WeMo app cannot detect the WeMo switch. I have reset router, unplugged the switch, restarted iPhone and reinstalled the app. No resolution at this time.

Needs Improvement but GREAT for what it is

I purchased one for my office. I liked it so much, I eventually bought four more to add in. Hoping to also create a Wemo atmosphere at my home, I soon found that you can't have your cake and eat it too. At this time, you can only use Wemo in ONE LOCATION. I have chosen to keep mine at the office. I hope Belkin will improve this and allow multiple locations. If they do, I will give them 5 stars!

    Almost perfect....

Have got 5 WeMo Switches and a Motion Detector and have had zero problems getting them up and working.

Only issue seem to be that sometimes when I have pulled a switch from the PowerPoint it can lose its config......the Motion Detector keeps its config when moved.

Also the app doesn't let me change the name or icon of a device once setup.

Bring on the light switch and while your at it can you make them as Powerpoints so I can replace the ones I have in my wall and control them remotely....maybe even a powerboard would be cool to.

Also the scheduling is excellent but havnt yet tried IFTTT.

I've been using home automation products for many years now. Wemo wins, hands down! Easy to configure (not sure why others are having such difficulties), easy to use, rules to turn devices on and off work great, and as soon as the wall switch comes out, I will be in line to buy several!!

If you're on the fence about buying these based upon some of the reviews, ignore them and spend your money. You won't regret it!

my wemo seems to be incontinent! When it is shut off, still a little of power is going through! So the control light of my coffee machine is still visible!!! Don't know if that is ok or not?! When wemo is off, there should be no power at all!!

I've had the WeMo switch for 3 days and, although it hasn't been long, I'm happy with my purchase. The set up was as easy as the instructions on the box. I liked that even though I set a rule, I could turn the light on at any time and it would still turn off as per the rule's instructions. I've tested it with my phone internet and it's worked perfectly too. I also appreciate that I can buy each additional switch separately as the need arises; right now, I only need the one and that suits me fine. Only (slight) downside is that the unit takes up a little space; even plugged into the top of the outlet, it's made it hard to plug 3-prong items into the bottom. But it's a small price for the convenience it gives.

    Stopped working after update

Bought 2 that worked well until I updated them. Now they show up and connect when set up but after that do not show up in the app. Since the app itself won't identify I guess there will not likely be any way to get to the firmware to fix it.

If you check the communities you'll find that almost every user has an issue with this device connecting to their home network. People report it taking hours. This is not acceptable for simple product like this. What a shame. Belkin doesn't seem to be doing much to correct the issues.

I've had the Weymouth for about a month now, and I'm liking the product very well.

As an electrician and IT specialist, I can see this product going places..

I've made three firmware upgrades and already I can see great improvements in the operation and remote control of the Wemo switches.

All issues have been address so far except one. I still have issues with access from the iOS from another access point other that what the Wemo switches are connected to..

Great so far... Looking forward to the Wemo wall switches due out soon

This is a great device to have if you have a purpose for it. It works very smoothly and installation is simple. The app was horrific for a bit, but they've fixed it with the latest update.

Works as advertised (I have four now!)

Love my wemo’s! I purchased two more to bring my total to four. I am unsure why some folks are having the issues that they are. I can easily control my switches when I am not on my home router with no problems and set-up is fairly easy. A few times I had to start the process again but all four our great. I love having some of the switches turn on everything at once since they share the same clock. Of course, if your wi-fi is down, your switches won’t turn on. I am getting more creative with them as I go. My daughter thinks she can magically turn on the lights!

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Belkin WEMO SWITCH!

Bought this to connect to my high end espresso machine, so I could preheat and or program wake up to my schedule! for under $50 I think this product is GREAT, GREAT, GREAT!!!
Only issue I've had relates to remote (ie outside of my LAN, for example driving home from work). Im sure my network is blocking access, but have been unable to rectify. Spoke with the MOST polite customer service ever, who attempted to elevate my question to higher level technicians, but failed to follow up.
Still, this product is worth the fact that I can essentially "turn on" my coffee maker from upstairs, so it heats up while I'm showering, and then premium capp is ready and fresh w/in 3 minutes before leaving for work. GREAT, GREAT, GREAT!!!!

    WEMO Remote Access Problem

    • Written by from SAN FRANCISCO

The first time I set this thing up it worked fine. Now, for some reason, I cannot get it to enable Remote Access, which renders it useless to me.
I've done a complete reinstall. No dice.

Just noticed the review which mentioned that remote access doesn't work if the router is linked to another downstream router. Why not?

Hope Belkin fixeds this problem. Do these guys debug things before they send them to marketing??

    iOS app painfully slow

    • Written by from DALLAS

10 of 12 people found this useful

The app sometimes has to "look for sensors/switches" for several minutes before finding the switch, which happens to be 2 feet from my iphone and 10 feet from my wifi router. Also, sometimes the app indicates a device is on when it's off and vice versa.

    Wish I would've spent the $ elsewhere.

Belkin - please refine the software.

I read the reviews of this item before buying it so I expected slight difficulty in setting up this product. I'm very tech savvy so I was up to the challenge. I purchased two switches and a motion switch. After about 2 hours I had all three up and running plus created rules within the WEMO app. After about a month Belkin released a firmware update for the switches and an update on the app. At that point I was no longer able to control my switches unless I was on my home router. (Which defeats the entire sales pitch you can check if you turned things off after you left.) I then 3 weeks ago installed a new router and after 3 weeks of trying, holding down the connect button to reset the switch and the app crashing non stop I finally got one of the switches connected to my new router. I was able to control it with the app and then I unplugged it, moved it 20 feet to the living room and it no longer works on the network. (One of the set up trouble shooting suggestions was to move it closer to the router to program and then move it back.) Until Belkin can fix all the bugs, and there's a lot, with this product stay away. At this point I wish I never bought this product.

I received the unit as a Christmas gift. Downloaded the app for my phone. Had a bit of trouble with the app not seeing the unit at times. However, an app update fixed the issue and everything works flawlessly. Now am using IFTTT to link it to the task I'm using it for, which is cool in itself.
