    Simple app controlled outlet

    • Written by from Mineola

This is a simple way to control a power outlet via an app. Take the switch out of the box, plug it into a power outlet, set your wifi to the WeMo, configure it in the app, hit the "done" button after the app finds it, and then you can turn the outlet on/off or make timer rules for it to go on and/or off. I'm using it to control an air conditioner, so I can turn it on about an hour before I get home, so it'll be nice and cool. Additional security features would be an improvement ... anyone on the same SSID with the WeMo app can control any outlet on that network.

    Great Product. Wanting more now...

    • Written by from Ontario

I just got home with my new WeMo switch. Easy to hook up. Secure once married to your wireless network. I wasn't sure it would work away from home, but it works awesome over 3G / 4G with my VPN to home. It is like I am just there at home.

Wish it was a little cheaper in price, but works as advertised. The rules work good. I was worried the app would have to stay open to make it turn on and off with a rule. It looks like the switch has some smarts and knows what time it is.

Now I want about 10 more for the house.

    Nifty little switch

    • Written by from Philadelphia

I have to hand it to Belkin, the WeMo Switch is a pretty nifty little device. The device itself is a little bigger than I was expecting, but setup was a lot simpler than expected. I had no problems getting it up and running, nor connecting it with IFTTT, which was a very nice surprise to see. Plain and simple, it's a very simple device with a fair amount of potential. That said, it /is/ a little limited in what it can do right now, hence the 4/5. Other than that, no issues with it at all.

    Solid product

    • Written by from Calgary

I use this device to control my espresso machine, which works best if it warms up for 1/2 hr before I use it. The WeMo works great as a timer outlet, scheduling the machine to turn on before I wake up in the morning. But the real value to me is being able to start the machine from my phone if I am out and decide I want a coffee when I get home. No more waiting for warm up.

Works well with Time Capsule wireless router. And is much cheaper than other home automation solutions. Very fit for purpose.

I have been looking for a device like this one for a while. Even when I'm half way across the globe it works perfectly.

This device is really neat! It was much larger than I had expected, but the functionality is awesome! I'm really happy I purchased this and will be getting more in the future!

    Great product!

    • Written by from Rancho Cucamonga

Picked this up at my local Apple Store. I have one room in the house where I'm constantly forgetting to turn off. And normally, I don't think about it until I'm about ready to fall asleep. I just pickup my iPhone, open the WeMo app, and turn off the lamp. And set up was a breeze too! Great product. Good for those who constantly forget to turn off the light. There are only 2 complaints. 1, the price. $50 is fine if your going to use 1 or 2 of them, but try to populate your house with these and they get expensive. 2, size. Due to the size of the WeMo, you can't plug 2 into the same outlet, which is bad if you have 2 items you would like to use WeMo for on the same outlet.

Great idea, and a few improvements will make it amazing.

    Great Device

    • Written by from SAINT AUGUSTINE

I travel a lot and I have 3 of these running the lights in my house. Easy to set up and nice to have different time schedules for the week and the weekend. If you are using multiple timers, there is a feature that allows you to take a picture of the room they are in so that you can distinguish them on your iPhone.

    Second switch install tricky

    • Written by from White Lake

Love these devices and would have given a 5 star but setting up the second device was a little more difficult, even though I selected "remember network" on first device I had to enter the network again, then it selected the guest network anyway! Also on the first device I got an error message pop up installing the firmware update yet the device was fine afterward. Writing rules are easy but I wish there was an option to vary the on/off times per rule, say the times can vary by n number of minutes on a random basis to avoid the set schedule and make it look more like someone is home. No need for a motion switch so no comments about it.

    Almost there

These are great and in my opinion well worth $50 in order to stop using the wonky legacy light timers ("tic, tick, tic...") or other systems that are not as reliable. Give one of these a try and you will never go back!

    Works as advertised

Setup was straightforward. I got it connected to my home wifi and hooked up to IFTTT within minutes. Has a lamp set up to turn on and off automatically based on sunset/sunrise events, and it has been working flawlessly so far.

    Switch it up

    • Written by from West Palm Beach

I just got this and think it is just the coolest little device I've seen in a while. It's efficient and unique and works like a charm. It has many different uses and you can use it on the go for at home from any of your iOS devices. Now that I have one I want more. You can set it up on a timer , or just use your IPhone to control the switch from wherever you are. I highly recommend it to anyone.

    Good in theory

    • Written by from Minneapolis

I reallly wanted to like/love this contraption... and based on how many I purchased, my wallet thinks I love them.

    That's where the love ends.

Everything will work well with these devices until they roll out a new app update or a new firmware update. Then brace yourself for 15 minutes worth of work for every device you have. The 15 minutes per device will be used to reset all the settings so that you can once again access them when you're not at home

Mind you. Belkin has updated the software at least 4 times since I purchased them this fall. ('12)

Multiply that time 9 devices and 4 updates and you have the hours of frustration that have resulted from something that isn't cheap and was supposed to make my life easier.

Don't believe the other reviews listed here. They're cheerily suspicious. Check out the reviews written by publications for a better sense of this product.

Thus ends my scathing review. Just wish I'd waited to buy the new Hue light bulbs now at Apple. No wait, I did also buy them and surprisingly, they work!

    Not working as advertised

    • Written by from Del Mar

Remote access can not be enabled in a multiple router / range extended network environment. Belkin's servers require the switch(es) being bound to one router MAC for the remote access to work. Premature release of a poorly thought through and developed product. Works nicely when controlled from device that is operating on the same WiFi.

    Cool

Based on some of the other reviews, I am bracing myself for a somewhat hard time setting my 2 switches up and was very pleasantly surprised when it was a breeze -- it was literally plugging in the switches, download WeMo app from app store, find WeMo Wifi on Setting, open WeMo app. Voila! Would gladly fill my house with these switches if they are more affordable ; )
