Great specs, not-so-great performance for bicycling

    • Written by from Seattle

I live in Seattle and commute 20 miles each day. Longer rides on the weekends. I run 2 - 3 times a week. Jabra specifications looked very good. Purchased them and used them on several runs and bike rides. Fit: using the correct ear gel is crucial for a secure but not too tight fit. During running the fit was secure with no slippage. Bluetooth: Adequate volume with intermittent cut-outs (whenever I turned my head and interrupted a direct alignment between the headset and iPhone) when my iPhone was in a waist belt or in my rain jacket back pocket. Used with an arm band pouch, no problem. The Bluetooth cut-outs may not annoy some but they bothered me.

Biking. Worn under a helmet and a skull cap, the fit was tight but acceptable. Helmet straps needed to be adjusted to fit around the ear pieces. Bluetooth: Cut-outs were frequent and more bothersome than when running. Perhaps it's the helmet and skullcap or the placement in my bike jacket or jersey pocket (I don't like to wear an armband when riding.) that interrupts transmission/reception when turning my head to check traffic or turns. As would be expected, use of controls is difficult with winter riding gloves.

Other. Battery life ran between 2.3 and 3 hours. Fine for the commute and run but not enough for long rides. Overall, the headset is well made and would probably endure a lot of use/abuse. They seemed completely unaffected by sweat and rain.

I think the Jabra headset would be great for a lot of users (runners or cyclists who use armbands, for example). My uses are very specific and probably out-of-the-norm. I decided to return the Jabra headset and stick with my Sennheiser/Adidas PMX680i wired headset. The wire is a little annoying but the PMX680i sounds great, fits me perfectly and works well under a helmet or while running. By the way, I've also used (and returned) the Jaybird "Freedom".

Disappointing to use while you ride a bike

    • Written by from Sao Paulo

I've bought this headset to use at my bike. I've already test a lot of headsets before and I put all my hopes at this one, believing that it could be the end of my search. Unfortunatelly I was wrong.
    Problems (sorted by annoyance ):
    a) the sound cuts out and returns in few miliseconds a hundred of times during a single ride. It seems to be a problem with the bluetooth signal reception, because this issue stops if I take my iPhone at my hand and keep it near the headset. I read that some people are using armbands to control this issue, but I see no sense in buying a wireless headset if I can't keep my iphone at the pocket of my pants.
    b) It doesn't fit well on my ear when I'm using helmet and sunglasses. There is no room on my ear for that bulk loop share space with my glasses and both being pressed by my helmet. It hurts a lot, keeps falling from my ear, and takes a lot of time to put it back at correct position (sometimes I need to use my two hands to put things steady).
    c) When my neck is sweating, the yellow cable sticks to it, and the headset pulls out of my ear when I turn my head. I need to leave a gap in the cable to fix this issue.

    Not Adjustable

    • Written by from Miami

I had purchased these headphones and I thought I was on my way to happiness! No more wires dangling while I was running or wires flapping around. My running was about to become something more enjoyable for me to experience.
I charged them up and set them on my ears to only discover that the headsets were not adjustable!!! So if you have large ears which I do not then these headphones are for you. If you have smaller ears or are a petite female then keep searching.....sigh.

    Nice Product ...

    • Written by from MOUNT MARION

I am using this headset for 3 days and I find it quite impressive.

I didn't use any wireless headset before so I can not compare it with other products.
    - This headset pair quite easy and fast with my iPhone4 and works perfect.
    - I am a sensitive person but I get use to wear this headset quite fast. So, I think it is very comfortable and easy to wear. Also, it does not fall, get loose or move in a wrong way even once during these days (I ran about 15km)
    - Sound quality is good and I don't have any problem with it's volume or bass etc. but it may be a bit low for some songs.
    - It's battery works more that mentioned by Apple. I charged it once and it plays songs for about 4 hours now. (As the indicator says, it has almost 40% more charge)

    - The only drawback I can mention is that for a good outdoor experience, as mentioned by the producer, you have to use its Armband and put your iPhone/iPod in that (on your right arm). Armband had not been mentioned so I became surprised when I see it :-)
    - As mentioned by other reviewers while talking the quality of your own voice is not perfect. (while talking, no one nagged but when I asked my friends, they said it is a bit different and is like talking through the speaker)
    - There is no guide about choosing the right ear plug and I found all of them almost the same (non of them didn't fit of hurt my ears). So, one may change them during exercise and decide which one is better.

In general, I am satisfy with this purchase and recommend it to my friends. If I find any negative points about it, I will submit/change my review again...
    Cheers

    Sound OK but poor bluetooth

    • Written by from Nepean

Sounds is OK with these but the bluetooth connection is very fragile. Holding my iPad at arms length causes the connection to fragment constantly. Only by holding my iPad against my chest does the connection hold steady. Also very unimpressed with the battery durance. I haven't been able to get more than three hours of life before getting the low battery notice.

    Mine is great!!!

    • Written by from Winnipeg

I was surprised to see all the negative experience for other users. But mine is working fine, If you are going to run outside then you need an arm band for your gadget. I use this Jabra with my phone on my pocket and never get disconnected. Interference can occur of course if you're outside. Inside the house it works awesome. I always use this for thread mill and listening to audio books in bed. The design is great and can quickly connect to my phone within 3 secs after I turn it on. Maybe I just attracted the positive side of this product. And customer service is great too... This product is worth a try!

    completely satisfied

    • Written by from Schnecksville

After reading the reviews on older wireless headsets and their common problems, I decided to take a chance on a newer, unreviewed product. I've only used it a couple of times, but so far it has worked excellently. The earpieces are so comfortable I barely feel like I'm wearing any. They take a couple seconds to put on your ear correctly, but once they are on they stay put. The sound quality is good and the connection does not go in and out when I place my phone in my pocket. Seeing as I just got them, durability is the only possible problem. Overall great product - will update if they stop working within a couple weeks.

Good sound, but Bluetooth kills it.

    • Written by from Gatineau

I'll cut to the chase: Good sound (maybe a little too bassy), great features, but as soon as I started running, the Bluetooth connection started cutting out and my music was intermittent, even with my iPhone in an armband on my right arm (as recommended in the user guide). I returned them within a week.

Acceptable sound, pathetic operating range, short battery life

    • Written by from Washington

This product was a major disappointment. While the sound quality is acceptable, that is the only positive thing I can say about this headset. The fit is poor, the bluetooth operating range is pathetic, and the battery life is abysmal.

What good is a headset for my iPhone if it loses the connection when I put the phone in my pocket? The included instructions warn that the best operational range is to keep the phone above your belt line. Seriously. A phone designed for your pocket, but a headset designed to never allow it to be placed there.

Avoid this headset. It's a waste of money.

    Quirky, but Decent

    • Written by from alameda

Sound quality is decent when it can connect to bluetooth. For a sport headphone with bluetooth stereo sound, I was impressed. No one is kidding when they say to wear an arm band. I run with a back pocket and if i turn my head to the right, the sound disconnects - bad when you're looking for traffic at a cross street. Inside, in a 10 foot radius, no issue with connectivity. On a treadmill, no issue. For smaller ears, if you're lucky, the earbuds themselves will hold the headset for you which might not be comfortable if you workout for more than an hour. If your ponytail hits the receiver (right ear) you can hear the bump echo through the headset. It's a lot of workarounds if you're willing to be adaptable. I'd still recommend trying them out on a normal run.

Junk design - don't deserve to be seen on Apple Store

    • Written by from St. Albert

Such atrocious fit, my wife never even bothered to try pair these things. They're going back ASAP. The design is such that there is NO CHANCE of these fitting anyone without serious acoustic compromise. I wish I'd read the reviews before I gifted these.

    Performs as advertised

I've been using them for daily workouts for about two weeks without a hitch. It's nice to exercise without being tethered to my iPhone.

The good, the bad, and the truth.

    • Written by from Portland

Spend 30 minutes writing a review to have been notified it's too long. Spend 30 minutes cutting the things down to 300 words. Still prompted that "words cannot be published", there is nothing in my review which had profanity or different products. It's like they don't want customers to write reviews and share opinions. WTG fapple.

    Buy these, they're alright.

    Worst Product Ever

    • Written by from Centerville

I got these headphones for Christmas 2011 and I am now on my 5th pair...all covered under warranty. They last for about 4-6 weeks and then something goes wrong with them. From not being able to power them up to not being able to adjust the volume, to not recharging. Each time I was sent a new pair and within 4-6 weeks they failed. These are the biggest pieces of junk I have ever owned. If I could give 0 stars I would but I must give it something so I gave it a 1.

    it could be better

    • Written by from Apache Junction

    PROS:
    - very easy to pair
    - it's great to no longer get tangled in cords

    CONS:
    - battery life is shorter than advertised
    - ear buds are not comfortable

I have been using the headset every day for the past 2 weeks, both in the gym and outside. I have not run into the problem of loosing connection reported by other users, but I do agree that the battery life is much shorter than advertised. The specs state 3 hrs of music, however the most I have gotten is 1.5 hrs (just long enough for my gym workout). The ear buds are not comfortable for me (I much prefer the in-ear style with rubber / gel caps). The sound quality is good enough - in the gym I find there is too much bleed through of outside sound, but when hiking outside it lets in just enough to keep aware of surroundings. The freedom of no longer getting tangled in a cord mostly offsets these negatives. All-inall they're "OK", but for the price I expect better.

    Almost there

    • Written by from Jackson

    I'll keep this simple:

    Pro:
Good Signal indoors and better signal out than the BackBeats
Cord is slender, long, and doesn't distract.
    Secure fit for sports
    FM radio built in
    Simple to use
    2 device connections
    Cool design
    Buttons easy to memorize

    Con:
Hurts my ears after prolonged wearing
Constantly in fear of battery dying.
FM radio is pretty bad even 10 miles from radio tower.
    Talk/Play button is awkwardly placed
Doesn't include armband for phone like it use to.
Sound isn't what it should be.
User manual says specifically not to expose the headset to rain, which goes against marketing.

I'm returning them tomorrow. These are equally as good as the Plantronic BackBeat 903+, but in a different way. Neither of them really live up to my expectations, which are admittedly high.

    Purple LED Death

    • Written by from Metairie

First the good. Great fit, good audio (not great). Out of the box easy pairing. Bluetooth Ok. Now the bad. After 2 months I have a purple LED and the unit fails to function. This seems to be a known problem. The answer seems to be to replace. Mine crapped out yesterday. I will contact warranty support for replacement. Some people have done this several times, but it's a defect and needs a fix.

Impressive save for one small detail

    • Written by from Portland

I have to say that the 2 weeks I have had this product I have been very impressed with the sound, and call quality. I also love the rain proofing military plastic that would short out out other headsets in a heartbeat. If I may make one small upgrade concern. Please attach a clip to the tethering wire. $ times they have slid off my neck unbeknownst to me, and the final time, they fell in my parking lot, survived an all day rainstorm and ready for action. If my neighbor hadn't ran them over when I was trying to retrieve them I would still have them today.

Be very careful, they can and will get away from you if not closely guarded... and even then who knows. If you already have a pair, find a way to attach a clip to keep it on your collar.

    Seriously blows

    • Written by from Los Angeles

I was so excited when bf bought me a pair. They didn't fit right out of the box, no biggie I used the supplied padding. The sound never was that great to begin with but what's lame are the battery power AND the Bluetooth! The battery drains sooooo fast. I don't know under what perfect conditions they tested them in but 3 hours playtime for music claim was a joke! The battery level warning seems to only have "high" and dead. Once battery level indicator gets about half way done the Bluetooth connectivity goes right in the toilet. The music starts to skip. Not a fun thing to have when you are out of breath on the StairMaster. So I returned them after a couple weeks of trying. Hopefully the Jaybird will be an improvement.
