    Love it or Hate it

    • Written by from Kingston

This would be a great printer and terrific value for the money, IF it would connect. Mine works perfectly for about one minute, then drops its USB connection and becomes useless. I tried it on two different computers, different USB cables, wireless, ethernet cable, checked the firmware upgrades, etc etc. I give it one star solely because HP Tech Support actually tried (unsuccessfully) to help. The guy even took over control of my computer for an hour to troubleshoot, and gave up. HP sent me, next day, a replacement printer, plus free ink cartridges, plus a free second sheet feeder. Same problem with the new printer. It's going back. Too bad - this model has everything I wanted, especially good ink economy. If yours works, congratulations. But beware that there is a real possibility that it will not connect. Thumbs down to HP for allowing this Known Issue to persist without fixing it. In fact almost every HP printer I've owned has been buggy for installation and connection.

    No Complaints

    • Written by from SAINT GEORGE

I don't understand the complaining reviews. I purchased this device directly from the HP store to replace a 6-year-old HP L7590 All-in-One with one having Wireless capability. Installation was simple and connecting to the network was quick and easy. I followed the instructions on the display of the printer to establish the Wi-Fi connection. At no time did I connect the device using either a USB or Ethernet cable. Also, I did not use the DVD that came with the printer to install the driver, etc. Instead, I used the latest version of the driver software (downloaded from the HP website). All features I use work well — printing, copying, scanning. (I have no use for the Fax function so I haven't tried to use it.)

This device is quieter than the one it replaced. Otherwise, it seems to operate at about the same speed. Print quality is slightly better. The biggest difference is the added Wi-Fi capability.

Wireless is useless as is direct connection

    • Written by from Santa Fe

I will be returning this printer to the store as I bought it 2 days ago. I did find that it will print wirelessly if I choose the printer from the network drop down menu, but that may only be because I am using a printer cable as well. But then I am not connected to the the internet so I cannot continue working on anything else until the printing is done. HP has a lemon on its hands as it pertains to the wireless printing feature on the Officejet Pro 8600 All in One. While searching for a solution, I found a large number of complaints regarding this same issue on many forums.

    Overall a great printer

    • Written by from Waterdown

I'm not sure why this product is getting such consistently low reviews, because I have nothing to say against this printer. I read these reviews and decided to buy it anyway.

This printer is easy to install and prints over WiFi and via email like a charm.

Many people complained that it didn't come with a USB cable, but you don't need a USB cable with it, because it's assumed that you'll print over your wireless network

Yes the touch display is not exactly sophisticated, but once you get the hang of it, using the QWERTY keyboard is quite easy. Other people were complaining about how the cartridges and paper jam up - I had no such issues (yet?).

My only problem with this printer is that it's massive, but with double-sided printing, you probably need extra room. I returned this product for the 6600, it's slimmer version, which works just as great.

    I used to like it...

Used to be amazing, then one update happened and I lost double sided legal size scanning. Now my printer won't stay connected to my iPad 3 or iPhone 4S!

Same problem. Keeps going offline. Won't print on a whim. Isn't connecting with any of my devices via wifi. Sucky lemon of a printer. I have wasted hours trying to work with it.

    Piece of Junk

    • Written by from Salt Lake City

This printer doesn't even deserve 1 star but I had to pick at least 1 star. I just spent 5 hours trying to set this printer up. I finally got it to print but it will not scan. I usually can work through problems using deduction and troubleshooting but after 5 hours I'm ready to throw this printer in the garbage. Don't bother with this product!

    Do Not Buy This Printer

    • Written by from Ormond Beach

There has been a thread on the HP support site since Feb 2012--that is almost one year as of today--complaining that the printer drops off the network after it goes to sleep and there is no workaround. HP has not acknowledged the issue. Thousands are having it. I have tried everything. I own two of these pieces of junk. The price on this printer is down to $139 telling me that HP knows they have a lemon they need to dump. They should replace every one of these printers. Over 28,000 inquiries on the support site. Don't think that your printer will be any different. This is an unresolved issues that hasn't been fixed in a year. Buy a different brand printer and save yourself a lot of grief.

    Worst Printer EVER

    • Written by from Alexandria

I bought this to replace an older model and chose it because of the front-load for envelopes...I do a lot a envelopes for a non-profit. Anyway, everything everyone said about it not playing well with Mac is true...it won't scan to my computer, it goes off line for no apparent reason and it is just not in tune with my Mac. Apple should NOT list this printer on their website. I have an Epson that is a dream...so I am buying another one for my office. No more HPs!

Worst at being an "all in one" printer

    • Written by from Pacific Palisades

The following complaints are not a glitch because I returned one and got a new replacement one that does the same things: Half the time the documents being sent to the printer require being "refreshed," meaning I have to open the printer utility and manually refresh each print job, and STILL cross my fingers that it will print. The printer dialog box is also awful. Half the time it won't prompt me to set up size, grayscale, paper quality, etc. Finally, I can't get the scanner to work properly, no matter how many times I "uninstall and reinstall" the software as I am told to do. One time (of the many) I called HP, the rep (outsourced to India) told me to keep the printer away from the computer and/or router at least three feet, because there is probably too much interference. (Um, aren't printers supposed to be close to the computer???)

Have already returned brand new one

    • Written by from N. MIami Beach

Now, the new one is doing the same thing: scanner is erratic, re-sets itself, says not connected, then glass scanner works - once, then refuses to scan again; feed says there is a problem, but can find nothing wrong. It has cost a fortune trying to get this scanner to work. Will return it tomorrow.

It works beautifully with Mac, PC, Iphone and iPad

    • Written by from GRENOBLE

I have it since 1 year. My best multifunction ever. It prints on both sides, fast and pretty quietly. With Airprint, setup from iPhone, Mac and IPad was very simple and printing fro mall these devices works like a charm. Cartridges are not too expensive. Scan of multiple page (recto & verso) works beautifully from Mac software despite not the easiest to use. Scan can also be initiated from printers and sent to Mac or by e-mail.
Very easy to setup. I believe but I don't understand the ones failing with this printer...

I have had many HP Printers and they all say that they don't use that much of the ink when it seems like your replacing the ink cartridges at least every a couple of months even when i use it almost everyday. Will i have had this Printer since March of this year and i have gone through dozens of rims of paper and i am just now getting the low ink message on 2 of my cartridges. Remind you that i am still on the setup Cartridges that came with my Printer. This is the far most the best printer that i have gotten in the past. LOVE IT!!

It took a Ridiculous amount of time figuring out that it won't scan to my MacBook Pro. HP support was useless and a waste of time...blamed it on Mac. I returned the printer the next day. I Will not be purchasing an HP product for use with my Mac again. Don't make the same mistake I did.

    Don't Buy

    • Written by

It loses wireless network connectivity every time it goes to sleep and there is no way to turn off the sleep function. The only solution is to restart the printer making is useless as a wireless printer.

This is with the latest firmware and drives as of 9/30/13 and with a static IP address setup.

    Do Not Buy!

Brilliant - like apple products, it just works

    • Written by from Stroud

Like others here, I cannot fault this printer, upgraded from C7280 which has worked tirelessly for the family but decided we needed a more sophisticated tool to cover not just the Apple products but the increasing demand from the kids homework. Everything loaded perfectly, all software installed on 3 laptops, iPad, iPhone and iPod touch. My other half is delighted that she can now print from her phone easily.

Honestly, this is the best printer from HP yet and now I've registered it for the 3 years extended warranty it's the top dog of the AIO printer crowd

I would not hesitate to recommend this printer

    Works for me

    • Written by from Delta

Strangely enough reviews here are all over the place. A lot of people with problems but I am not one of them. This is a solid printer. I have had no issues with the setup and didnt even use the manual. It is all pretty straight forward. It prints and scans the way it should. I upgraded from a Canon and payed $169.
There are some issues with using 4x6 photo paper. This machine does not have a manual paper feed so you you need to put the paper in the tray. I managed to print after roughening up the rubber grabber using my nail. I dont think I will use this size of paper much.

    nightmare printer

    • Written by from Tavistock

I bought this printer months ago. I've had nothing but trouble with the wifi printing. Spent HOURS on the phone with HP who thought they solved the problem with a static IP address but weeks later I'm back where I started, having to reboot the router to print. And today it won't print pdf files which I see is a common issue.
Be super wary about this, I wish I'd read a lot more reviews before I bought.
