Does it all... Does it all pretty well, A+ HP

    • Written by from Bremerton

This machine is like the kitchen sink of printers with business like performance for your home. It's been a blessing for our family of 6 with 3 soon to be 4 school age children. It prints pics beautifully, and documents quickly - LOVE the duplex option, that really saves on paper. The paper tray holds half a ream of paper, and the biggest plus is the cartridges - they cost around $10 more per pack than cartridges for other printers, however they print almost 3x the number of sheets, making for very cost effective printing. Scanning, emailing, and faxing options are plentiful and easy to use. Configuration was truly automated so setup was a snap and the software is very versatile and easy to use. Of course the added bonus was AirPrint - which has come in very handy in a household with 2 MacBooks, 2 iPads, 3 iPhones, and 2 iPod Touch's. You won't be disappointed with this printer, and if it's as durable as our last HP it'll be trusty for many years to come. We've been using it for about three months at the time of this review.

The best Inkjet I've ever owned.

    • Written by from Houston

This printer is awesome. Very Fast, crisp, highly flexible and functional with iPad/iPhone. All the goodies, scan and print to/from email, etc. over the internet, AirPrint/e-print does it all. Scanner and Copier very fast. I have the premium, dual paper tray model. Unbelievable value, and its an office jet, so the high volume cartridges are VERY cost effective cost/page b/w and color.

    Love it!

    • Written by from River Vale

Just bought the printer yesterday and so far so good. My comments are about the set-up. Let me start by saying that I am NOT a "techie" by any stretch of the imagination and I didn't have any problems at all! I was very intimidated at first but once I unpacked everything and took a deep breath, it wasn't bad at all. Just follow the directions! It was that simple. I had to set up two MacBooks and two PC's - everybody is up and running.

HP must be writing the good reviews, this printer is A DOG

    • Written by from Homestead

50% of the time, the printer doesn't scan, doesn't print. Chooses when to clean its sensors (OBTW it chooses to do it, right after you've click on the print button). The printer is connected directly to the workstation yet its software tells me it's not available. You have to 'wake up' the printer (jab at its panel) to get it to do something. Oh it has features --- that you'll never use. HP - if it doesn't print or scan, it is useless. PIECE OF JUNK

Great printer - unreliable at best with MAC

    • Written by from Wenatchee

This was a reliable, high quality printer that I used with my pc. Since I switched to a MAC OSX I have had nothing but trouble with the printer. I've downloaded the newest drivers from HP multiple times. It doesn't interface well with the computer and is a constant headache. It just stopped working again today, with or without a USB cable. The printer is still fairly new, and I'm highly disappointed. I've had a history of success with HP but will not be buying HP anymore with my MAC.

    Good value for money

    • Written by from Newmarket

I've been using this printer for a month now. Setup was easy on my wireless network using the driver software it came with. I use it with my Macbook Pro running OSX 10.8.2, IPad 3, and IPhone 5 using AirPrint with no issues. I also have a Windows 7 pc that uses it over the wifi as well. It works good, it's fast and the output quality is very acceptable. I would recommend it.

    So far so good

    • Written by from Show Low

I've had this printer for about 2 weeks and it has worked flawlessly. Easy to set up, easy to use, air print with my iPad and iPhone work perfect. I've used the scan to computer, the fax, printed labels, made copies and have no issues at all!

    Failed the first week

    • Written by from Los Gatos

Front touch panel control screen failed after 3 days (went to solid white) making it useless except for printing from the computer. On day 5, the printer stopped feeding paper making it completely useless. Returned it to the store I bought it from. Turns out others on the HP forum have had similar problems with this printer.

    It fell short

this printer does not allow any paper thicker than regular old printing paper. Card stock NOPE! Photo paper NOPE! Went through too much hassle to get the printer then this, and an exchange only made me more mad.
This is not the printer you want period

Cannot connect to airport using WAP/WAP2

    • Written by from Daly City

Very frustrating. I was not able to connect to my AirPort using a password. Only if I set my network to not require a password that I was able to connect. That is not acceptable. Then they point you to diagnostic tools which they only have for Windows. What is HP thinking this is not 1995 anymore.

I am returning this and buying an Epson.

    Endless hassles

    • Written by from Ypsilanti

Over a year and a half of use I have had a series of problems with this machine's scanning functions--first bands (eventually solved); fairly consistent communication problems between my MAC OSX 10.7.5 and the scanner that require annoying and continual manual resets; and now a complete failure to scan from the flatbed to the computer in color.
The problems have mounted with MAC OSX and HP updates. None of the service/support suggestions or online chat groups ideas have resolved this. The functions are fine--when they work, but I would not recommend this printer. Too bad as I've used HP printers for years. This one in my experience is a dud.

    Easy Set Up

    • Written by from Haverford

This was the easiest printer to set up. I was able to print, scan and fax in minutes. The best feature is E-printing. My wife can send documents from her computer at work, and they print immediately on the 8600 at home. I would buy this printer again in a heart beat.

    WIFI Problems

    • Written by from Edgartown

If you use repeaters to extend your wifi, the 8600 will be trouble to set up and to use wirelessly. The 8600 confuses Network Names (SSID) and there is no easy solution. Be careful. I regret buying it.

    Wireless functions unreliable

    • Written by from Parker

    A simple review:
    Wireless function unstable and intermittent.
Same result when wired to a network, intermittently nonfunctional.
Air print feature worked at first, then hopeless.
All this experience on a professionally set up and maintained network with no other problems.
    Enough said.

Worked fine for 10 months - then imager went out making the scan/copy/fax function worthless. It's a known hardware failure. I would not recommend. I'm out of warranty and out of luck.

    HP Officejet Pro 8600

    • Written by from Winston-Salem

The printer was purchased in September of 2012 and has worked very well with my PC and Macbook Pro (purchased in February 2012) It was easy to install and set up wireless on my Home network. It functions better with my iPhone and and iPad. The only drawback is that it will not allow two sided printing on the Macbook Pro. All the other devices do the two sided printing. Must be some gap in either the Mountain Lion software of the HP driver; but can find no answer from Apple nor HP.

    Works Perfectly

    • Written by from Rolla

I just bought The HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus. I received it in the mail yesterday and only until today did I finally get the Airprint feature to work on it.
When I opened the box and got the printer set up everything worked great. I could print through wifi, I could print the eprint center, copy, scan and I dont have a hardline to fax but it all worked. The next task was to figure out the AirPrint feature. I wanted to print using my I phone but could't figure out how to print using AirPrint. Mostly because I didn't have all of the know how about my iPhone. So I talked to Apple Care and talked to a lady named vicky and she showed me how to search for the printer on my phone and then print. It really does have AirPrint people it just takes a little work to get there.

    Easy to setup

    • Written by from Irvine

I am blown away by all of the negative reviews. I've had this printer for 6 months and I've never had an issue with it.

The setup menu makes things very easy. I have this printer hooked up to my Macbook Air, iPhone, iPad and Windows Computer. I think people that attempted making the printer work most likely shouldn't be touching computers if they're having a lot of issues with it. This is VERY simple to work as it is basically plug and play.

The only issue I had was trying to figure out how to setup the scanner to scan to my MBA through WIFI but after 5 minutes or so I was able to get it figured out.
