Ok but not Great. Bose MIE2I better bet.

    • Written by from Annapolis

I had these earphone's for about a week as I waited for my warranty replacement's of my Bose mie2i's (upgraded from regular ie2's because of Siri)...

These get good reviews, for good reason. I guess like with all in-ear's, it comes down to if it fits comfortably. They could be the best sounding headphone's to ever bless your ear drums, but if they are uncomfortable or fall out constantly it doesn't really matter.

Probably to no fault of B&W's, they don't match the comfort ability of the Bose tips... I've had 6 in-ear surgeries on my left ear so I don't expect to fall into the Small, Med, Large sizing categories of mass produce goods...

But I do with Bose. The sound in the C5 is only a little better than in the Bose's and most of that is probably due to the noise isolation, whereas the Bose aren't. Which is actually a plus.. Walking around a city unable to hear the world around you isn't the best idea.

Also, the mic and controls is on the left ear-bud... That was weird and since I'm partially deaf in my left ear, that makes it's useless for me for phone calls.

The only reason I decided to try something else was because the Bose break on me annually. But, the warranty picks up the tab so, until Bose fixes the quality, I'll just be sending them back to get a new pair annually. No better in-ear headphones for the money.

I recently received this earbuds from a locality points program and have been disappointed. I have a zeppelin air and have been very satisfied with it from day one and have always wanted the c5 earbuds. The sound quality seems to be decent on these earbuds, but the build quality is horrible. The remote fell apart the day I received them and the plastic on the ear loops fell apart shortly after. Good thing that these were free. Hopefully B&W release a better build quality earbud.

Simply Awesome - Easy to miss!

    These headphones are sublime!

If you are looking for depth, hearing the breath of the singer, being in the audience, and fullness of the bass? Well these are the in-ear headphones which deliver just that! Truthfully though, and it's not immediately apparent, that unless you have exactly the same ear cavity size with which matches those earbuds which are fitted upon delivery, then I think it's not an immediate good experience. You need to experiment first. I had to change my ear fittings before I found the "snug" fit, and then "boooooom" it all came together. These blow Bose out of the water with the pure richness of the sound, and to be perfectly honest they just get better and better, and with a bonus, this is without annoying the person sitting next to you on the train on a decent volume.

They are stylish and fit into your ear perfectly (when you get the correct buds fitted), and are the musical delivery choice that I cannot see changing from in the coming period of time.

When the family is being loud, or there's just too much going on at the office, or even too much chatter on the travel, these headphones block it all out, and simply deliver the best quality in sound that I expect from this quality set of headphones, again, sublime! To wrap up, I love them.

Great earphones, only 1 flaw (if I was being picky)

    • Written by from manchester

The sound of these earphones is amazing, really rich, really crisp and as with most b&w product they look cool as. I bought these to replace my sennheiser ie6 phones as I ruined them by catching my hand on them several times whilst running (won't be using these for working out). Far superior sound quality, had to mess about with the rubber buds to get the right fit at first and they do feel a little weird in the ear to begin with, but they do bed in and you get used to them feeling 'normal' pretty quickly. Can't really complain at anything with them part from they do tangle a little. Definitely recommend them for any audiophile. Just wish the output of the iPhone was a bit better to utilise the power and quality. Using them for music production from a mbp certainly makes them standout.

Another great product from Bowers & Wilkins.

    • Written by from Budapest

I am a music enthusiast. I am also snobbish. When it comes to music, I only accept the best quality available, thus purchasing high-end audio hardware is also a priority. I'm kind of ashamed of myself, because the first time I heard about B&W was when they released the Zeppelin Air, which I also own (awesome speaker btw). This company's been in the audio game for a long time. The thing about their products is neither they add anything to the music, nor do they lose any of the concept, so as providing an experience as it was imagined by the artist. And they do it amazing. Regarding the C5 I've heard complaints on the secure loop, but for me personally it's really comfortable. There are also some complaints about how quickly the headphones wear out, but so far it seems to hold up pretty nicely, and it seems to be made out of quality materials, so I'm not too worried. I can recommend this product to basically anyone who likes music.

Phenomenal sound, some minor design flaws.

    • Written by from New York

I purchased a pair of C5's after a great experience with the MM1's. The sound from these was fantastic, and I abandoned my pair of Klipsch's in favor of these. I found that the main drawback to the C5's is that they are not good for running (they don't stay in place), but are fine for less motion-intensive work outs (e.g., weights, etc.). Unfortunately about 8 months after buying these one of the ear pieces stopped working. I contacted B&W, they asked me to send them in, and sent back a brand new pair in a shockingly short period of time (I sent them out on Friday and had a new pair on Monday -- I kid you not.) Ever since then I've been thrilled with these. I was using them for home use and commuting until I bought a pair of P5's for home. Now I use these to get great sound when I'm out and about and can just stuff the earbuds in my pocket when they're not needed.

    Best (in ear) headphone!

    • Written by from Torrance

i tried many different (in ear) headphones with the apple's 14 day return guaranteed. First, i bought Dr. Dre Tour, because i love the color, design, style. However, no matter what i tried i couldnt fit it into my ear and any movement(walking, running) it fell off. Even though the bass was good, i couldnt fit into my ear, even with all different ear. Then i tried rha ma750i, design was sexy, yet less bass compare to dr.dre. Then lastly tried, c5. Best sound, best bass, best fit. Buy it!! I recommend you to try the 14 day guarantee and try c5!! Boss! Cons: wire might be too thin. Feel like it might get broken if caught by something so careful! Noise isolation best!!

A comparison with others I've tried

    • Written by from Golden Valley

I brought home the B & W C5s along with a Martin Logan Mikros 70 and a Bose SIE2i in order to determine which I preferred. Here is the result of my admittedly unscientific comparison.

    1. Fit. The B & W fit my ears the best. The Martin Logans moved around inside my ears and I always had the feeling they were about to fall out, using the largest tips provided that fit my ears, even though they never did. They were less comfortable than the B & Ws. I never did figure out how to get the wing mechanism on the Bose ear buds to fit my ears and I gave up trying. Admittedly, fit is a subjective thing and one has to try them to see which fit best.

    2. Sound. The B & W was by far the best sounding of the three, subject to the following caveat. When I used the largest of the tips provided, they created a pretty good seal from outside influences. When I did this, the base increased to a great degree and the music came alive. The differentiation between instruments, the sharp base and the overall clarity were fantastic and far exceeded that which I was able to achieve with the other two ear buds utilizing the largest tips provided that fit my ears. The other two ear buds were more mushy in sound with less differentiation among the instruments. However, when I ran on my treadmill utilizing the B & Ws with the largest tips provided, each time my foot hit the deck of my treadmill, it would create a very distracting thumping base sound in my ears that overrode the music. It was therefore impossible to run using those tips. (I suspect that this will also occur to a lesser degree when running outside, but since it is still very much winter where I live, I have not tried running outside with them yet.) When I changed the tips on the B & Ws back to those that were on them when I received the package (the third largest out of the four provided), the thumping base sound from the treadmill deck was eliminated, but so was the liveliness and fantastic base sound that came with my use of the largest tips. With these smaller tips, the B & Ws were not much better sounding than the other two ear buds that I tried. I will therefore utilize the larger tips when not running and the smaller size tips for running on the treadmill.

AMAZING! Definitely worth the price tag.

    • Written by from Iowa City

I was reluctant to spend nearly $180 on earbuds; however, I decided to take a chance on the Bowers & Wilkins C5's and I am so glad I did. These in-ear headphones are AMAZING. The sound quality is superb, the headphones stay put thanks to the "secure loop" and are comfortable on top of it all. I would definitely recommend these headphones - especially to anyone reluctant to the higher price tag - take the plunge. You'll be glad you did.

    not for everyone

    • Written by from Gresham

I bought the B&W C5 for 2 reasons. I wanted a really good sounding in-ear headphones. B&W has a good reputation for their products and these DO sound very good. the 2nd main reason: I need a pair that stays put in my ears when I'm at the gym or doing any outdoor activities. for me, this is where they fell way short. I was intrigued by the design. seemed like a good way to solve my problem of the in-ear pods that always fall out or need to be secured constantly. I tried all the different sized "bud" adaptors that came with but nothing solved the problem. running on a treadmill, doing sit-ups or even mowing the lawn, these C5s never stay in. I really wish there could've be someway to try before buying I could've gone with a different brand. again, these do sound really good BUT given my main reason as fit I'm only giving these 2 stars.

Decent, neutral sound, uncomfortable, difficult customer service

    • Written by from Richmond

The sound on these phones is decent, equivalent to similarly priced products in the marketplace. They are particularly neutral, so if you are looking for heavy base I would recommend other options, but if like me you like to have your headphones get out of the way of the music, these are a good option from a sound standpoint.

That being said, these are uncomfortable to wear for extended periods of time. They are heavy and stick out from your ears, which seems to put extra pressure on your ear canals (at least for me). I have also found that they are prone to electric shocks. I am not sure if it is a short in the phones themselves or static electricity, but the metal housings at times seem to shock me when they come into contact with my ears - not very pleasant. The sound gets them a 4 star, but the shocks bring it down to 1.

I've tried to get in touch with someone on the phone to talk about replacement. However after trying two websites and two different phone numbers I was still unable to talk to a live human. Incidentally, their service website is so poorly organized trying to find simple info like a phone number was next to impossible.

Caveat Emptor on these - I for one appreciated the sound, but will not be buying B&W again. There are too many other good manufacturers out there to put up with electric shocks and poorly designed service.

    Excellent piece of engineering!

    • Written by from MANCHESTER

After owning a pair of MONSTER Turbine Pro GOLD Edition headphones, which I happened to lose, these are definitely better! For starters they have a tighter seal with one of the sets of the supplied earbuds and they stay in my ears....regardless of what I'm doing, and whether or not I'm using the built-in loops, unlike the Turbines I had which would lose a little the tight seal! They aren't quite as heavy and the build quality is just as good as my old pair as well! At first I tried them WITH the loops which proved a little uncomfortable in my Left ear after a little while find them so I tried them WITHOUT using the loops, and now I can I wear them for hours!

As with all earbuds though, you need to let some air get to your ears to cool them down at least!

Soundwise, I'd say there's a little more wider range in the lows, mids and highs with almost any musical genre, and a wider soundstage too than my previous pair. I use them a lot with my APOGEE Duet 2 Mac Audio interface which really puts them to their Full potential when listening to Apple Lossless Tracks bought from the iTunes Store!
Even hooked up to the iPhone, the C5s still manage to impress! I don't really have any issues with the leads either that some people have had with hearing whatever's in contact with them, say a shirt!

I still think though that they'll need a little more time to 'burn-in' as I've only had them a few days to really shine but apart from that, I think they are the best in-ear buds I've EVER owned so far, as well as the pair of P5 over-the-ear ones I've had for 2 years from B&W!

At £149.99 / $179.99 in the US these are a steal.....just get them and try them according to B&W's recommendations on their support site and you're very unlikely to go wrong!

    Magical Sound with Great Fit

    • Written by from Ottawa

These headphones took me a few days to get used to their quirks and after a few days of changing the tips and readjusting the headphones I realized the true sound of these headphones. They provide magical head filling sound that feels like the music is coming from everywhere yet in your head all at the same time. The bass is clean, deep and rumbling but not overpowering. The mids perfectly balanced, natural and front and centre. The trebles are slightly sharp but nothing to complain about as they blend nicely with everyone else. The fit takes quite awhile to discover and frustrated me to no end however once the correct fit is found these headphones provide a well rounded and magical experience like no other. They are not likely to fall out as they have a snug fit. The music sounds as if it is directly in your head and it overwhelms you, would definitely recommend these headphones.

    Worth every penny, just fantastic

    • Written by from Singapore

I've never written a review for any headphone/earphones I've owned, but these definitely deserve one. Soundstage is just extraordinary for in-ears, it feels like i'm wearing around ear headphones. The bass is deep and hits hard, yet isn't too overpowering. I felt that the vocals were the highlight of the sound quality, everything just sounded so crisp. I've owned the Bose IE2, Beats Tour, Klipsch S4, and the B&W C5 comes out way on top. I really can't point out anything wrong with the C5. If you're looking to invest into earphones, spend the extra cash on the C5s because they won't let you down (unless they don't fit well, TRY THEM FIRST!).

Small things that make your life better

    • Written by from beverly hills

How many headphones is out there? How hard it is to pick the one you like, will fit and sound great? Not many! Bowers & Wilkins blew my mind! I'm a person who's constantly on my phone, listening classical music and watching movies in airplanes, and these headphones made my day!
The people who have been in New York know how loud and noisy it is over there. How people talk with their phones in the middle of the streets I have no idea! With these headphones it feels like there is total silence around you! The quality of music is mind blowing!
I couldn't imagine that one can create headphones that fit for everybody and not killing your ears.
If you enjoy quality then get these buds and you won't regret!

Not very impressed for the price.

    • Written by from Simi Valley

Great bass, decent treble, vocals were clear. But something in the sound was missing that just wasn't there. They also did not stay in my ears nearly as well as I thought and were very uncomfortable. Sound cancellation was pretty good. I think these headphones would only be good for planes and car rides with lack of movement. Also way to expensive for what they produce. Build quality was great, I didn't feel the worry for them breaking any time soon. Only had them for a few days until i returned them though.

3.5 stars to sound quality (because of price)
    4 stars to looks
    2 stars for comfort
    4.5 stars for build quality

Dynamic, rich sound in a tiny package

    • Written by from Atlanta

After reading the reviews of these earbuds, I was both excited and cautious about trying them out. Now that I've had them for about a month, my excitement hasn't ended and my caution is gone. Really impressive especially considering the cost. Many are commenting on the innovative, but quirky loop system. It takes awhile to get used to, but it works really well. It's nice to be able to adjust fit on the fly. The sound is solid B&W. Excellent combination of flat response with dynamic sound. You aren't going to get more out of pop music or rap with these bad boys, but jazz, orchestral, older r&b and some rock shine as if you're listening to over-the-ear phones.

Almost perfect! Still worth 5 stars with minor flaws.

    • Written by from ACWORTH

I bought the C5 from an Apple store after reading positive reviews. I am a classically trained musician/composer with very critical listening skills and am naturally very critical about sonic fidelity. B&W has always been a favorite brand due to its consistent quality and design philosophy-being true to the sound with min. coloration. The C5 lives up to the reputation. Clear, dynamic, with no excessive bass enhancement. My favorite lossless recordings are faithfully reproduced with spacious sound within iTunes. Great product for the price. Since I just got them, I couldn't say much about the durability at this point. Other very positive features are the Apple product integration: mic and iPod function controls work very well. The ear loop is a very innovative design that allows the earbuds to securely position with min. fuzz.

The only minor flaws: poor soft carrying case design and the cord is bit short.

Highly recommended for the pure sonic quality and innovative fitment.

Please Read if you have sensitive ears!

    • Written by from Westfield

Ok before i say anything else i want to say first that i am not some other company leaving a bad review i am an honest consumer and i thought that i could share with you how i feel about these headphones. i am by no means an audiophile just your average consumer. So first off i could not get these to fit into my ears no matter what i did. i switched out earbuds and tried different positions but nothing worked. i also ripped two of the earbuds in half because they are attached so tightly to the headphones and the earbuds are poorly constructed. Finally after i thought i got the best fit possible the pain in my ears was terrible it feels like someone is taking a pen and pushing it into your ear canal. Even more the sound quality is not that great because i have to keep them loose in my ears otherwise it feels like someone is trying to stab out my eardrums with a pen. My choice would be to go with the Bose Mie2i they are much more comfortable and have great bass. thanks for taking the time to read this.
