Broken after less than 1 month.

    • Written by from Lasalle

After less than 1 month of use the left earpiece stopped working. Very unreliable.
I was also refused any service at the apple store, despite being within the return period.

    Great at first but...

    • Written by from Rutherfordton

These were great at first. I got them for Christmas and the left side quit working by February. Loved the fit while running, however, the left side now has a short in it and doesn't work. I only used them for running. I thought the headphones would have lasted longer. I am very disappointed.

    Poor construction, yet great sound

    • Written by from Jersey City

Although the B&W C5 headphones have tremendous sound quality (super deep bass for buds, great mids and highs as well), I have had to return them twice so far due to the same manufacturer's defect. After a month of buying these from the Apple Store, the left ear monitor stopped working. Apple was kind and switched them out for a new pair free of charge under their 30 day retailer's warranty. This was in October, and now three months later in January, the left ear monitor on the newer headphones has stopped working again. The sound goes in and out if I jiggle the cord that enters into the headphone but it was too frustrating to deal with so I returned them to B&W. The flaw is in the design of the headphone in that the loop that extends above the headphone that is supposed to fit inside your outer ear also contains the cord that enters into the headphone, so it seems very easy to disrupt the connection when you are adjusting the size of the loop. These are great sounding headphones when they work but the headaches they have caused me due to their malfunctioning design have led me to write a poor review. Avoid these if you want a durable pair of great sounding headphones (these will NOT last).

    Poor Design

    • Written by from Coopersburg

First of all the sound quality is very good, which is expected from a product at this price point. However past that there is very little to give praise about. The earpieces are not comfortable after a brief period of time your ear becomes sore from the wire which is used to hold the earpieces in place. Also, the mic/remote combination is awful - from the first time to the last the in-wire remote was almost impossible to use with out irritation. I would not recommend this product.

Fantastic sound but would not recommend due to quality issues.

    • Written by from Calgary

Probably one of the best sounding in-ear or headphones hi have heard in a long time, being a non hard-core audiophile like myself it's hard it would be hard to see needing anything better than this. The first time they broke the left ear bud stopped working and B&W replaced (after a painful warranty process with there north america distributor), after another six months of not very hard to use the
Remote started failing and sending mixed signals to the iPhone causing the volume to go up without input and large amounts of static in the buds. I have no doubt that some people buy these and get great performance and longevity from them but unfortunately I was not one of them.

    Only lasted 6 weeks

    • Written by from Mississauga

I got these earphones for christmas, and I have to say that they have a terrible overall design. They are not very comfortable in the ear for long periods of time, and tend to fall out of your ear if your working out and sweating. They also stick out of your ear a lot more than you would think, so it looks funny.

The worst part is that with normal use, these earphones only lasted 6 weeks until the wire got disconnected from the left earbud. Not too happy about these earphones considering they cost almost 200 bucks.

Amazing Bass but breaks very easily

    • Written by from New York

In short, I fell in love with these the instant I put them in my ear. If you listen to bass heavy music, these are a dream. Yet, DO NOT BUY THESE EARBUDS!

After about two months of use, the left earbud no longer works properly. Because I thought I finally found the perfect earbuds, I would take very good care of these. All to no avail though. So I sent them in for repair and got them back within a few weeks. After about three weeks of usage, the problem returned. Now, I have to put my phone in my pocket upside down so that there is pressure on the jack. And only then do they work...sometimes. What a piece of...

    Worst B&W Product ever.

    • Written by from Luxembourg

After lots of tryouts - to find the right fit - the headphone provide good sound. That's everything positive about them.

    - The fit is globally not good, the headphones hurt your ears after wearing for more then 15minutes. Their system to make them stay in your ear is not convincing and they are also too heavy for in-ear headphones.

    - The cables are very stiff; i.e. it's not really possible to wind them up to store them.

    - The remote is really badly designed - it is cylindrical!! - but you can only push the cylinder in one way - i.e. you have to perfectly turn it each time you want to press - plus the button doesn't work well - so most of the time it just doesn't work

    - The included pouch is ridiculous - there is just no way to put the headphone nicely in it. Seriously there is no way.

    - Really bad price/quality value on this product. It feels a lot like "Made in china".

I own other B&W Products and really love them - actually I'm quite a fan of the brand - but the C5 are seriously disappointing. The sound is good but all the rest makes them unusable, just for being badly designed. I strongly recommend you take them in your hands once before buying them. I'm now back using the ones included with my iPod, despite the better sound of the B&W's.

    Awful design hurts your ears

    • Written by from Washington

Don't believe the hype on these headphones. Audio quality is definitely superb, no doubt about that. The problem is the casing, I'm not sure who thought it makes sense to give ear phone design sharp edges. Anything that's supposed to be housed in your ears should have CURVED, not SHARP edges. Does this really need explaining?!? Even if you get the vaunted hard tube casing to fit snug in your ear, the casing itself will jab your ears very sharply. DO NOT BUY.

The sound is good but the overall product is HORRIBLE!! I have had to ship mine 3x's so far back to have them 'fixed' or given another pair. The wires connecting the aux are faulty and keep on breaking. DO NOT BUY!!!!!! It'll cost a lot more shipping to have then 'fixed'

I am on my third replacement pair of c5s. Like nearly one third of the reviewers here, my c5s (all three) have lost sound out of the left channel. B&W claimed they were upgrading me to a pair of P3s after having to replace my headphones for the third time. However they goofed up and sent me another pair of c5s. Since my last pair failed after one month of only using them at home, I'm not even going to bother unpacking these. I also own a pair of p5s (the remote cable failed twice—apparently they are using flawed and/or cheap cabling components). This will be my last bowers and wilkins product. Sounds great (though nothing more impressive than p100x from Sennheiser—which are significantly cheaper and infinitely more durable).

Painful in ear - uncomfortable - poor customer service

    • Written by from Atlanta

The idea of the cord that wraps to fit in your ear is an interesting idea - but I couldn't adjust them to make them comfortable. As a result - I find them to be unusable. I have tried every adjustment and angle possible and they hurt my ear after 10 minutes and my wife had the same issue. Sound is good - noise cancellation is not so good. Horrible customer service. I would NOT recommend these.

Poor construction and shoddy assembly; great sound

    • Written by from Unity

These In-Ear phones produce some of the best sound that I have experienced. The quality of the sound is superior to the top of the line Schuur and Seinheiser, both of which I own. The sound isolation is excellent for a generic-fit in-ear phone.

Unfortunately the cables and control are wholly unreliable in my experience. The first pair that I tried was bad right out of the box. The second pair failed for the left channel within a few weeks. I will take the second pair back to the Apple store and see if they will give me a replacement.

I like the sound of these phones so much that I am willing to try again, and simply reserve these for airplane trips when sound isolation is so important.

    Good sound but poorly built

    • Written by from Oakville

I bought my C5 in December 2011 and had to replace them twice since then. The same problem both times - sound volume goes low in the right phone after a few months of usage. The third C5 I was given as a replacement had a bad control switch from the beginning, I guess its top is slightly misplaced. When I click on it once to pause, it increases the volume instead. Double or triple clicks are simply impossible. Anyway, I decided to keep it because I spent some $$ to ship the previous C5 back to B&W and if this one breaks, I'll simply through it away and buy anything but B&W.

    Poor product & customer service

    • Written by from New York

The sound quality is great but as someone else posted, the earbuds will intermittently electrocute you. They also crackle sometimes, I'm assuming because of the same issue. It doesn't matter how good the sound quality is if the ear buds are unusable!

At first I thought I shorted something out by using them while running and exposing to sweat... which btw caused one of the ear buds to stop working for a day... under fairly standard use. So I sent them back and got a new pair. I've had this pair less than 24 hours and SAME EXACT issue! You get an electric shock in your ear, with the severity ranging from mildly annoying to mildly painful.

Am I the only one that thinks this is ridiculous?! When I contacted B&W their response was send em back. How about fixing the underlying problem? When I spend close to $200 on a pair of ear buds I not only expect an exception product, but if by some chance the product is defective or flawed I expect exceptional customer service.

Beware!... don't waste your money with it!

    • Written by from Barcelona

Today just failed my third C5 replacement earphones in less than six months. I bought my first ones in the Apple Store, but after some time started to loose sound on one stereo channel. Ok, I went to Apple store, and very kindly replaced me with a new one. But after some weeks it started to fail, exactly as the other did, after one hour or so listening music, the left or right channel looses slowly volume, until it is completely lost.

This time, I observed, that if you leave the earphones alone for some hours, they works again correctly... until they fails again after an hour or so. Well, I went again to Apple Store, and I convinced the guy at the shop about my tragedy thanks to this forum. I got my "new" C5 earphones... but this time with the certainly that it will fail again. And that's what happened this morning, barely five days after the replacement, the right earphone loosed volume and now is almost imperceptible.

Ok, so now, again to waste my time at Apple store and begging for new ones... this time I'm afraid that I will not convince the guy at the shop.

Terrible built quality - just don't buy

    • Written by from New York

I bought my C5 3 years ago. The first pair came defected and made terrible noise. It was replaced by B&W. The new pair, In less than a year the left ear stopped working completely. B&W replaced it again. This pair lasted almost a year as well, when both sides started being choppy. This time B&W refused to replace it, claiming only the original warranty stands (though evidently it wasn't their policy a year ago). I never used it for the gym. Never put it in my pocket. Never rolled it. It still looks new, the cable looks springy.

So you can say B&W have decent customer service, or terrible product, or both. Unless you want your pair for only one year, don't touch this.
