Almost great but wonky with iPhone 5

The sound is amazing but not right out of the box. I bought a pair of Comply replacement tips and voila, like a whole different sound with added bass. The problem with the B&W tips is they don't form a seal in your ear so you don't get the rich bass. The Comply tips fixes this and keeps it in your ear. Despite the goofy loop, the right earbud would never stay in place.

Now the reason I bumped it from 4 stars to 3. Doesn't seem to be compatible with the iPhone 5. When I'm plugged in and have them in my pants, the sound occasionally cuts in and out and produces static. Super bummed about this since I really like these earphones. I tested on another iPhone 5 and an iPod touch. The other iPhone produces the same static while the iPod does not.

That said, if you're an iPhone 5 owner, beware. I also know it's not part of Apple's "Compatible Products" list. I had these before the iPhone 5 came out and didn't expect earphone compatibility issues. Gotta find some decent replacements.

Sound is good, build quality not so much

I bought this at Apple store about a year ago. My most frequent issue with headphones has been failing jacks which in this case didn't happen so that was good. Sound quality is appropriate for the price and I like the fitting mechanism.

Recently though the mid-section where cables join seems to have issues. When I walk or move the cable, if the joint also moves, sound in one ear stops. It's been getting worse. There's no sign of external damage and I kept these very well protected. Honestly, expected better build quality given the price.

Because after you pick up a pair of these you are going to want to listen to all your favorite albums again at high bitrate. The sound is just astonishing. They fit like an old pair of jeans and stick like an ear worm. Worth every penny.

Top tier quality without the top tier price.

The first thing that catches your eye about these earphones are their unique ear loop design. I thought at first it was a gimmick but they really do stay in your ears no matter what physical activity you engage in. The reason for this is because the buds are gently weighted at the ends as they sit in your ears. You can literally skip rope and the C5's won't budge. While the sound isolation isn't up to par with my old Sure E5's, the C5's sound comparable without the $500 dollar E5 price tag.

    Perfect in-ear headphones

The sound is pristine. They stay in your ears very well. You can run with these, I ran a half marathon with them. They fit in the outer ear so well that they block out sound (not "cancel" but essentially block all sound. Put these on in a crowded coffee shop and you can easily escape and concentrate on the book/lecture/task at hand. I love them.

Not As Advertised! No Bass. Do Not Stay In Ear.

After reading so many positive reviews, I thought these were the perfect choice to support my inner audiophile. I excitedly opened the box (needlessly complicated) and plugged them right in to my iPhone. To my extreme disappointment, they sounded like Apple Headphones! Argh!

I thought these would be better than Bose MIE2I but NO! They sounded terrible. The left ear crackled at low volume and the much vaunted loop design did not stay in my ears. The huge "Made in China" tag said it all.

I am definitely returning these and going back to my MIT-Boffin Designed Bose Earphones.

    Sublime

Truly a magnificent set of headphones that transcended all my expectations of sound reproduction by a pair of headphones.

The sound is warm, pure, undistorted. I know others have said that it has high bass, but honestly to me it sounds just right. The sounds reverberates with the kind of quality that I expect from high end speakers. I am able to discern new subtleties in familiar tracks, and I am better able to discern words in songs.

The long-term comfort with the ear loops is a potential issue. The first day I wore them, my ears got sore from the loops. But I've been wearing them for quite an extended period of time today and they seem to be OK - perhaps I had pushed the ear loops too hard against my ear the first day.

Overall very pleased with this purchase.

Probably got the cleanest bass sound but the design factor of the tips make it the most uncomfortable in-ear headphones to use.

    Not for people who sweat.

As a runner, I tend to sweat A LOT. I bought these in Aug'11 because I wanted something with a great sound, but would stay in place when running (most earbuds wont stay put). These are excellent...... for the first few weeks. Then the control on the wire stopped working from sweat. I try to dry them off after every use, and keep them clean. Thennnnn the right earbud stopped working. I contacted B&W and they replaced them for no charge........ Two months later, same issue. Right earbud isnt working and control works intermittently.

All in all, if you want a nice earbud with great sound, BUY THESE.... just dont work out in them if you intend on sweating.

...... back to the hunt on the perfect earbud yet AGAIN!

natural sounding, very good sound quality, the loop locks on to your ears no matter what your activities are, the wires are strong and stable and built to last. Audiophile quality. Had this for two years now, never had a problem and never bought anything else, very very satisfied.

    Great Sound, Not comfritable

I bought these at the airport about 2 weeks ago, after owning a pair of beats tour. The C5's are not as stylish as the beats although there very high quality-made, sound is great! Great base response and very high detailed sound. What bothered me though is the case, the cable and fit. Case overall is good but the zipper kept getting stuck in the crack and eventually bent, the cable is not tangle free and the fit in the ear is not that great. Overall great sound and stylish look... Buy Beats, thats my opinion.

Great headphones. I used these on a 13 hour flight and they were great for noise cancelation and did not hurt my ears when they were in the right place. Best sound quality and good for everyday use also. I definitely recommend.

After less than 1 month of use the left earpiece stopped working. Very unreliable.
I was also refused any service at the apple store, despite being within the return period.

    Not what I hoped for

I read the reviews, compared competitors, weighed all options and these were definitely not worth the $$$ they cost. Two problems I have, and they are big ones:

    1. SOUND QUALITY is way too bass heavy. I had to adjust the equalizer to bass reducer to get close to the quality I want.

    2. FIT is too awkward. B&W are trying too hard here. Design doesn't always succeed just because it's different than everyone else's headphones. I never achieved a truly snug fit, even with all the various rubber tips provided. A sung fit is essential for proper sound, but these would slip out often causing me to reseat them. The Secure Loops are an interesting gimmick, but after an hour, they hurt my outer ear because they press on the ear folds.

I retuned these the very next day and exchanged them for the Ultimate Ears 600vi. I already own a pair of custom Ultimate Ears UE10 Pros that cost $1,000, and think they are the best I've ever heard. I bought the B&Ws because I needed a temporary pair of phones while my UE10s are being repaired. The UE 600vi's don't fit much better than the B&Ws, but at least the sound is more balanced.

I must mention that UE10 Pros are in an entirely different class of in-ear phones and they don't get much better than that. Comfort and sound are truly phenomenal. I've had them for 7 years and can always get them repaired (drivers replaced, new cables, etc.) if need be. The cables are detachable in case you need to just replace those. About once a year I ship them to Ultimate Ears for a check over and they usually find something that needs to be tweaked. If you have the means, you must buy them, otherwise find an alternate that you can afford. Just don't waste your money on the B&Ws.

So far the best all around fit and sound for a non-custom in-ear phones are the Klipsch Image X10i for $350. They have one negative, though. The cables aren't well made. Mine disconnected after about a year of mild use.

I am a Bowers & Wilkins person. I don't just own their consumer electronics, but their professional audio equipment as well. Since I purchased their headphones about a year ago, I've been in search of earphones to mach the quality and performance produced by B&W. But now that I have a pair of their C5 earphones, I can say the search has come to a close.

The bass is rich and full but also strong; it doesn't become distorted at high volumes or in bass-heavy songs. The highs and the mid tones are just as impressive, if not more pronounced then the headphones (the Bowers & Wilkins P5). If you do choose to pick up a pair, I would recommend breaking in the drivers for about eight to ten hours. The only downside I can find about these earphones is the cable; it's rather irritating at first but over time, it looses its stiffness and rigidity. All and all, a great pair of earphones to match the headphones.

These are wonderful sounding earphones - and my favorite so far (have had Bose's, Klipsch, and multiple others). Had to get some replacement buds for these, and I have to attest that Bowers' customer service was TREMENDOUS. They have a customer for life given how well they treat you after you buy. Most places nowadays cast you off and it takes forever to get a response - not Bowers. Love em. Buy some - you will not regret it (I promise I don't work for them!!).

I have been through several Bose haedphones but the B W ones are the most comfortable. They are also great at noise canceling particularly on planes. Sound quality is excellent. If you stuff headphones into you pockets these are ideal. Unlike Bose, these earpieces don't come off every time you take them out of a pocket.
