I no longer worry about sleeping thro my alarm

I am a surgeon and also significantly hard of hearing, My early arising always woke my wife, since I had to set it loud to even hear it.. And when she was out of town, due to frequent business travel, I slept poorly even with the clock radio turned way up, for fear of over sleeping. Those days are over, and I feel I am sleeping much better, since I am not stirring every half hour to look at the clock. I find it extremely reliable and compact so that it is easy to pack for travel. All other clocks for deaf and hard of hearing (bed shakers, light flashers, etc) seem totally barbaric in comparison. I'm very pleased!

Get out of the dark on your sleep stats

When I heard about Lark I knew immediately that I needed one. I rarely use the Un-Alarm clock - although it's certainly a useful feature. As someone in the early stages of diagnosis for sleep apnea, the Lark sleep sensor was a great way for me to get a handle on how much sleep I was actually getting and how often I wake up through the night. And as the parent of a toddler, it was really helpful to get a handle on how little sleep I was actually getting. Sleep is essential, and with the feedback that you get from the sleep sensor (if you're disciplined about using it) you can really challenge yourself to treat your body better and get more sleep.

    LARK

My previous alarm clock was loud. Really loud. It woke up everyone in the house. Except me. When I heard about the LARK, I decided to give it a chance. It did not disappoint. I wake up on time. I don't wake anyone else up. My sleeping habits are becoming more normal. In short, the LARK performs as advertised. If you have any of the sleep related issues I mentioned, you should definitely consider buying a LARK.

I am hearing impaired and I've always look out for a new and improved alarm clock. This exceeds my expectation as I love its wireless so I can put my iPad/iPhone away from my nightstand. This device gets me up on time better than other vibrating alarm clocks. I don't know if you market the deaf community, but they would appreciate LARK greatly! Thanks.

    Good Idea on paper

Tried this product and although it did wake me up the first morning, the vibration is rather weak and likely not enough to rouse from a sound sleep. Could not get any of the sleep data to appear on the phone. You have to keep the small unit plugged in all the time except when wearing it. Was tricky to get the bluetooth to consistently connect. Good idea on paper but it is being returned.

Only alarm that can wake me up consistently!

I've struggled with alarms failing to wake me up for years. No matter how loud the audio alarm, I was always jolted awake enough to shut it off and fell back asleep. I bought the Lark without expecting much better results. I was VERY wrong. The USB port for charging is a big plus- keeps me from using too many outlets- and I had no connection issues at all. From the first night I used it, I could tell this was a keeper when I woke up with the alarm in the morning. It woke me gently and without startling me. And it did again the next day. And the next. And the next. 3 weeks in and I've woken up with it every single day I've used it! The wristband took a little bit of getting used to, but it's comfortable. All in all, a well thought out system that I wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

    Lark Doesn't Work

Bought the Lark with high expectations. It worked (literally!) two nights in a row, and then it wouldn't connect via BlueTooth connection to IPHONE. Recharged both the phone and Lark sets...still no connection. Reset lark, and still doesn't work.

    Finally, I can sleep in!

    I love this product.

Tired of always being woke up by my wife's snoozing habits, I got one of the Lark units for her to use. It works as stated and I now get that hour of sleep back everyday.

We haven't played around with the sleep data too much at this point but it seems interesting and could prove useful, I'm just pleased that mornings are quieter around the house and the grudge factor is gone. THANK YOU LARK!

My only gripe - they should make the software compatible with the older iPod Touch (Generation 2) so I don't have to buy another iPhone to start using the device for myself.

    Battery Dies the Second day

    • Written by from Santa Clara

I bought it the first day, used it and it works fine.

On the second day, I woke up with my LARK wristband dead and no data was captured. It was fully charged before I go to sleep.

I didn't expect it to fail just after the 1st day. I have written to them and hopefully will hear back from them.

    LARK review

I bought a LARK Sleep Sensor over one week ago because I really like the idea of tracking my sleep. The alarm component was also desirable. Unfortunately, this is a very disappointing realization of a good idea. Consider:
    1. The sleep tracking is not very accurate.
    2. The bluetooth does not always work, and when it is not working, there is no way to set the alarm. This has already resulted in one nights sleep not being registered, even after spending > 45 minutes (I should have been sleeping) trying to get it to work, following the instructions... the tech support...
    3. I can not access the LARK website from my iPhone, which means you can't access the online dashboard. When you log on from a computer, it does not have your sleep history, so no added value.
    4. After you buy the LARK, you learn that to get more than the alarm clock and sleep tracking, you have to pay $60 for an annual subscription, which is not at all clear on the sales literature. Based on the inaccurate tracking (assuming it works every night) how can the $60 analysis be correct?
    5. The warranty is only for 30 days - not a typo - only 30 days
    6. The stand does not "charge your iPhone" but only has a USB port in it
In conclusion, I am taking my LARK back before the 14 day return period is over. The sleep tracking is not reliable. The basic sleep analysis is not available from an iPhone and when you log on with a computer the web site does not have your sleep data. When the bluetooth does not work, the alarm function does not work, which has already failed in the first 8 nights of use (last night). The $60 annual fee, the lack of technical support, and the 30 day warranty don't inspire any confidence. This is a product not ready for prime time. Save your $130 + $60, there must be a better product out there. I am certainly going to look for it.

    Good but not great

    The alarm works!

The developers also seem to be receptive to feedback and have made program changes to enhance the product (dim the display at night, etc.).

I've tried other silent alarms and this is the only one that wakes me. I gave it 4 stars as I can't confirm the accuracy of the sleep data, further to this the web application only allows you to record one sleep session/day (when I shift between day shift to night shifts and back again I sleep twice/day while trying to switch myself over).

    Already Doesn't Work

I bought two of these a week ago. One for my boyfriend (since he wakes up 2 1/2 hours earlier than I do) and one for me (to track my quality of sleep and wake me up more gently). We both have followed the directions as far as charging them before the first use, and then charging them all day, and both of ours have already failed to go off in the morning. My boyfriends failed the third day, mine the fifth. Luckily it has a noise feature if you don't snooze within two minutes, but still, I'd expect the wristband to work for more than a week... Cool concept, but they're going back tonight.

Teaching an engineer how to sleep right

Prior to using Lark, I would never work to change it because I didn't HOW poorly I slept. Lark works for me as a wake-up mechanism! It is so nice not to sleep through twenty alarms and lie in bed exhausted for an hour after I wake up before I get out of bed. This has been a problem for me since I was a teenager.

Also, now I UNDERSTAND how poorly I'm sleeping because of the analytics. It really drove the point home when I could see the data in front of my eyes. I didn't fully understand how bad my sleep schedule was because I was just trying to stay awake as much as possible to work, and would end up often sleeping on a couch or in my room with the lights on.

The coaching is useful too because it gives me clear suggestions on how to adjust and improve instead of just telling me "Your sleeping is horrible." For the first time I'm actually excited about improving my sleeping habits.

    The Goods & the Bads

First - I really love this product, and I think it was a brilliant idea, well done. I am a recently diagnosed insomniac, and I have to wear earplugs when I sleep. My girlfriend might like his silent un-alarm more than me because she isn't jolted awake by my alarm that has to be cranked up! So, from the both of us, good job.
I do have some complaints however. I understand this is a new product, and perhaps your team has not been developing for iOS very long. Number one, when you enable the alarm, and the screen dims, it is basically unreadable and glows quite bright. I would like to point out an app that I have used previously as an alarm, and the GUI is brilliant. iHome+Sleep – the GUI is beautiful, you can also choose pictures to use as the background, along with a weather display (a nice addition). The most important feature to note is how the display dims when you swipe to tell the App its Bedtime. I think the Lark App could benefit from a few user friendly +cosmetic improvements.
OK, so all that was just about the GUI, which doesn’t have anything to do with functionality, I understand this. So that is what I am going to comment on next. The fact that Lark records sleep data (at least for an insomniac like me), is extremely useful! I think this was a good use for the sensor in the Lark wrist band, a very good use. However, it does not record accurately…or at least report accurately. Let me explain – I have been using the Lark for about a week now, and like I said, our morning are much more peaceful because of it. Because of my insomnia, I very rarely get 8hrs of sleep, and most mornings I feel like I only slept a few hours. One morning in particular, I felt extremely lethargic in the morning, the most tired I have felt in a month! But the Lark did not agree. According to Lark, that was the best night’s sleep to date according to its weeks worth of data. Now, like I said, this information seems very useful, especially to someone who values a good night’s sleep as much as I do. But the information now seems invalid and un-usefull. I feel as if some of my money has gone to waste, and I spent $140 on a wrist band that vibrates to wake me up, and nothing more.

Finally! Stay asleep while your spouse gets up!

My husband coaches rowing, and gets up at the ungodly hour of 4:30am three days a week. I keep more "normal" hours. :) He is a heavy sleeper and needs a combination of NPR and loud buzzer to wake, neither of which I can sleep through. He was skeptical that Lark would wake him, but Lark has overcome his formidable sleep powers! We've only had Lark a week, but now I can sleep through him getting up... a few extra hours of uninterrupted sleep is huge!

We haven't tried any of the sleep analysis, but just the alarm is worth it! Looking forward to software updates to allow you to set the alarm for different times on different days.

Great Sleep monitoring for the overworked

Really happy so far with the purchase. I have very little time to sleep in general and at various times find that my "sleep debt" is immensely high. I have used a ton of sleep apps and none really seem to give real value. I started using Lark a few weeks ago and although it does not have every feature I want right now, it has been great in gauging the quality of sleep I am getting. In general my sleep has been pretty poor, but last night was the first night I actually slept "well" and I do feel much more rested today. I am going to make sure to track what I do with the sleep quality. The app probably still has a ways to go with the features, but it seems like the science is there and it's actually working.

    LARK

So here's the scoop on the LARK. This gadget detects motion during sleep. That's it. I've used it 3 times now. The first night I slept 8 + hours and it told me that I slept, "Very Well". The second night I slept 4 hours and again it told me I slept, "Very Well". I did not sleep well either of these nights. The third night I got up before the alarm and shut the alarm off. The alarm ended up coming on during a phone conversation I was having. As for going to sleep, the lark told me the first night that it took 15 min and 8 min the second night. I know these two times for going to sleep were way off. ALSO read all their RETURN POLICY before buying. I'm now in the process of trying to return the LARK and get ALL my money back. There will be a follow up to this review. Hope APPLE is reading/listening.
