Cool device, but buy from Apple, not iGrill

The device works well and the software is really impressive. However, it does not come with an ambient temperature sensor, which is very important for smoking/BBQ. This must be ordered from iGrill, and they will gouge you on the shipping costs ($15 to ship a very light $20 probe). Unfortunately, Apple doesn't sell the ambient probe, or you could buy them together and get FREE shipping.

If an ambient probe is important to you, realize that it will add $35 to the cost of the item. My low rating reflects this shipping expense, rather than the actual quality of the probe, which I think is very good.

Great For The Grill And Smoker!

Received mine for "Fathers Day" 2011. I have used it many times, mostly with my smoker. With two probes I can monitor either two pieces of meat or one piece of meat and the box temperature. Works great for the grill if you're doing something larger like chicken, turkey or a roast. The iGrill works great with either my iPhone or iPad.

    You know you want one;-)

    No Bluetooth Range!

The Igrill works great if you are in a travel trailer and grilling outside your unit, but if your grilling in your garage and want to walk to the other end of your home and watch Telelvision, forget it, it won't happen, I could not be more than 40-50 feet away from my smoker using the Igrill, it has no blue tooth range. Sure, it works great if you have fresh batteries and no obstuctions, but if you put a wall between you and your grill the range is very limited. In summary the igrill eats batteries and it has very little range.

As I'm located in Sweden, it happens quite often that it is not a plessure standing outside by the grill even in the summer. This is when my iGrill does the work perfect for me.
Just staying under roof enjoying something cold or warm and having ful control over thecooking process!

So, I love to cook but I have a little bit of a tendancy to sit on the couch, start watching Real Housewives and....forget that I put something in the oven. My boyfriend must have gotten sick of having burnt, dry chicken for dinner because he bought me an iGrill last weekend. It's AWESOME, all I have to do is insert the probe into the chicken, set the preset alarm and then I get to sit with a glass of wine and watch TV, what could be better?!? My iGrill app on my iPhone 5 just alerts me when the chicken is done to perfection. No more burnt chicken in this house ;)

This really is a great product. Connected seamlessly to my iPad 2, I've used it numerous times to grill turkey, chicken, steak, pork roast, everything! I love being able to monitor my cooking remotely while I continue to prep other food. Battery life has exceeded my expectations. The service has been excellent as well, this company really cares about it's customers!

Would highly recommend this product to anyone. I don't grill without it!

Poor quality due to poor manufacturing

I exchanged my first purchase because of broken components, and the replacement iGrill was also defective. In both cases components were broken. I will exchange the second product for a third, but if that one is broken in the box I'll surrender. Being a loyal Apple customer, I'm very surprised at the poor quality of this product.

Ordered this in time for Thanksgiving but was shocked to pull it out of the box and see the front of the device fall off, revealing a circuit board. Not the type of product I expect to receive when placing an order from Apple.com. Not one but TWO of the screws arrived completely stripped and fell out of their holes. In addition, part of the plastic casing was broken.

Apple quickly refunded me the cost but it must do better due diligence on the third party accessories it sells on its site. Although a novel idea, this thing is downright cheap, poorly packaged, and obviously lacking the QA one would expect of an i- branded product.

This is simple, but effective - the ability to time and track your cooking meat with your iOS device is really fun and useful.

I've found this device to be accurate and reliable.

I liked using the Igrill for monitering my pit temperature when cooking low and slow and use the other probe for monitering the food temperature. It worked great about 3 times then one of the probes failed. I called customer support and was told I could buy another one. so now I just use the one probe. It works as advertised and beats getting up every 30 minutes or so to check on your dinner.

The Bluetooth range is about 20 ft, not 200.
Even 10 ft away Bluetooth only works for a while, then you have to take the batteries out to reset to get it to start working again.
The display turns off after a very short time, making it not very useful as a non-Bluetooth device.
    Great idea, terrible implementation.

The iGrill is very nicely designed and it works really well and elegantly for what it's designed to do. The integration with your iPhone is the best part of it, and monitoring your food's temperature becomes fun. Recommended!

I too have had some issues with the software, BUT when all is working this little piece of cooking hardware is indispensable. I once had a fire, my fault, in my smoker and burned one of the probe wires, making it useless. When I called to purchase a new one I was told that one would be in the mail right away, no charge. Now that is what I call fantastic service.

I am an avid grill/smoker who has used remoter thermometers in the past.. This by far blows them away. The way it works with my iPad is awesome. Love it!!

I bought this because I tend to forget I have something on the outside grill while I am preparing other things in the kitchen.
It works great. I set the desired temperature and it alarms to tell me it's ready.
I also use it while cooking in my regular oven. It is easy because of the long probe wires.

No problems so far, I have had it 1 year.

I've had my iGrill for over a year and it is WONDERFUL. Having 2 small children in the house makes it difficult for me to keep a close on eye on the meat in the over or on the grill. This product has saved me from over cooked meat!! The integration with the iOS app is also top notch!

This device works so good that I use it all the time with my smoker/grill. It was easy to set up and get started. I have a competition BBQ team and we all use the iGrill devices. I can now concentrate more on other things surrounding my cooking than constantly using another device to check temps. Highly recommend this device to anyone that does outdoor cooking.

Love this product, which allows two termomitor lines in. Little bit difficult getting Bluetooth connected to my IPhone for me so I gave 4 out of 5 stars. The Blue tooth feature is great for checking temps n your IPhone anywhere in the house, and getting warnings at Pre-set range.

When the batteries are fresh, it works just as described. You can monitor two different meats and the graphical prediction of time until finished reaching desired temperature is very good. I have checked the displayed temps with other temperature probes and found them within 5 degrees F. Had to replace one of the 2 probes I have shortly after purchasing after I let it fall into the flame and get too hot. Wouldn't read accurately after that. I suppose that was my fault. Replacement probe worked perfectly. Not necessarily the cheapest digital cooking thermometer, but probably the coolest.
