    Took The Plunge...

My God! What an excellent set of speakers. Worth every penny when it comes to lows, mids or highs. Sure you can get more for your money like 5.1s from Creative or Logitech but this is premium stuff and you know you can't go wrong with Bose. I took the plunge and will do it again if it comes to that. Excellent build quality from fit, finish to packaging, you just can't find any flaws with it. Plus the set beautifully compliments your Mac anytime.

First of all, sorry for my english. Guys, this companion 20 is a very good speaker system. Solid build, beautiful speakers, a good sound. One big problem: the poor bass. Any solution?... YES!!. Download Boom from Mac App Store. Boom is an utility with an equalizer. You can use it on youtube, itunes, grooveshark, etc. It is a system wide equalizer. Just increase the bass and... OMG!, the sound now is great, with deep bass. ;)

I bought the Bose Companion 20's four months ago for my MacBook Pro and I am a bit disappointed. The sound quality on high volume is not that good and not to mention the poor bass which sometimes irritates your ears even at low volume.I am not saying its a bad sound system,I just expected more for the money. My advice is to spend some time in the Bose store and try them few times in a quiet ambience with your own music, before to buy!
    Hope this helped!!!

Hurt at the register, but worth it each and every time I turn them on!

I was at electronic express and I saw these for the first time. I was astonished by the sound that came out of them. I seen the price and was turned off. During the summer months we travel, and after I purchased my MacBook Pro I was searching for a good pair of speakers. I also was looking for a pair of good sounding speakers at the office, so after about two months I broke down and purchased them. I haven't looked back yet! I am going to wow some folks at a Christmas party today! Bose got this one right, and every time folks pass my office they ask where is the sub? I just laugh! The only drawback is that they are not bluetooth, but you get past that after you hear the sound! Again, Bose got it right this time!

I'm a student and computer programmer who loves this set of speakers. I always have music playing from Progressive House and EDM to Classic Rock. I haven't found something that sounds bad on these speakers yet. They are well worth the money.

No complaints with these babies. Classical, pop, electronic, rock, opera.....you name it I've tried all kinds of music and they all sound wonderful. I also love the innovative volume control pod. It feels great in your hand - AS IF APPLE DESIGNED IT. You can also directly attach headphones or an external device like an ipod to the volume control pod!

I finally bought the Bose Companion 20's after about a year of listening to them in store displays. They sounded the best to me. When I plugged them into my MacBook Pro I was disappointed. They did not sound any better than the old $50 Logitech speakers I was replacing. They did not sound anything like they did in the store displays. I was going to return them but I happened to play them in a different location and everything changed for the better. Originally I had them about a foot from the wall. They failed to impress and sounded cheap and tinny. Moving them away from the wall uncorked them. Placing them about 4" on either side of my MacBook's 15" screen on a desk without a wall in front or behind it delivered great sound. If you close your eyes and roll around in the desk chair, you can find focused sweet spots where the sound seems to surround you as if you were in a room among the band members and individual instruments. I do not know how they make a sound appear to come from behind you or to your side when they are physically located in front of you, but they can do this if positioned correctly. If you like music with pounding bass you can feel, these are not for you. If you want an alternative to headphones, and clear sound with depth, these are a good choice.

After buying the new iMac, I was looking for an upgrade to the sound quality. Personally, it was between the Bose Companion 20s and the Bose MusicMonitors. I went to an authorized Apple retailer and had the opportunity to carefully listen to both and decided on the Companion 20s. I am very, very pleased with my purchase. They are not bulky, and they look stunning when paired with the iMac. In my whole-hearted opinion, they are well worth the price tag. Ultimately, you need to let your ears do the deciding, I did.

A good speaker system. Works well at loud volumes. Works well in a large room as the sound will fill the area. If you are sitting at your desk working and listening to music though, you can do better.

I'm big Bose fan but honestly these speakers really disappointed me. The speakers would skip beats at high volumes. At high volume, the music of the song would be a lot more prominent than the singer's voice. I was upset that these speakers had 'bose' logo on them.

Not a good system for me

I bought these based on the stellar reviews and my desire to upgrade my old speaker system. Right away I noticed they sound worse than my $15 garage sale Sony speakers. Now about two months later and I still don't like them. They sound terrible.
They are not clear and have a muddy, overbearing bass response.
The speakers can only be about 4 feet from each other, and have a proprietary connection system. Same with the controller. No mounting bracket or room for one, they have to sit on something. Considering the price, how annoyed I am with them every time I use them, they are lucky to get two stars.

If you buy external speakers, you probably care about quality as well as quantity. With portable music devices so prevalent, young-uns might find it odd to know that back in the day of vinyl, quality speakers were just as important as tuners, turntables, and jungle juice. OK, maybe not so much with the jungle juice.

Back then, music piracy wasn't even heard of by the general public. You played the stuff you actually bought. So the quality was better than the average quality now. See, we just wouldn't tolerate lousy speakers. But we do now -- they are rampant.

You might care about sound if you find yourself always walking over to the speakers in the Apple store, Best Buy, wherever. If you're like me, you'll buy some, think they're OK, until you hear something better. You were seduced by the small footprint and cool appearance. Aren't you tired of that?

Just buy these Bose, okay? I've had other speakers, but because of the tremendous experience I've had with the portable Bose system (about $500 and worth every penny -- unbelievable LOUD sound outdoors at the pool, beach, parties -- just fantastic) I decided to go with these.

Good decision. Worth the money. Bose knows how to do it right. And heed the guy with the $10K towers -- don't listen to these in a big box store. They're for a personal room, not a concert hall.

Excuse me now while I listen to "Hey Nineteen," by Steely Dan. Ah, sounds excellent on my new Bose speakers. "Way back when, in '67 ..." When music sounded better, and we were all young ...

I have $10,000 tower speakers at home and also a profession pianist. I know what good sound is.

These speakers are awesome. If it put them in a bedroom even small living room you will get better sound that most hd tvs. The sound is very loud and rich. Bass is great and hgh notes have great clarity.

These speakers also look good. There silver finishing looks great with my MacBook Pro.

Don't listen to these speakers in a really big apple store. They are not designed for thousands of square foot cubes like the one on broadway in new York. I love apple stores but they not really for selling speakers. Instead go to a Bose store. Some even have soundproof rooms for you to listen. So go to one and listen for yourself.

    Hope this helped!!!!

Bose's latest desktop speakers are a great addition to my home office. I have a large digital music collection and enjoy listening while I work or game. These speakers sound great at any volume level. When my favorite Floyd tracks come up and I crank the volume, bass, et al sounds great. The convienance of rhe volume control, on/off, and it's auto off capability are added bonuses. You can't go wrong with these speakers ... A bargin at twice the price given the superb sound quality they are putting out.

Without a subwoofer, I worried that these wouldn't pack sufficient bass. For listening to music, they're more than adequate. The bass is a bit muddy, but still good and can be cleaned up a bit with equalization as befits your location.

There's too many cables, but once installed, these speakers look good and have an excellent heavy volume knob that's easy to use and feels good. Power is on and off with a single touch, and no RF interference.
