... is the only word needed to describe these speakers; that goes for their build quality, aesthetics, and most importantly sound quality. These guys are solid, with a nice weight and well constructed, quality feeling about them that comes with products that carry a price tag like theirs. Spin the control pod dial, then you'll know what I mean by "quality feel" (also, having the extra 3.5 in/out's in the control pod are very handy, and the touch-sensitive top as a mute/power control is nice too). They look absolutely stunning on my desk and pair beautifully with my 15-inch MacBook Pro. The most impressive thing about these speakers though is how well they sound. They deliver deeply rich and well balanced sound across all volume levels, with a broad soundstage that sounds like you're seated in the center of a concert hall balcony (the best sounding seats in the house). Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous!

    Pay For What You Get

    • Written by from Toronto

At first, I was a little hesitant due to the higher price point for a pair of desktop speakers, but I opted to try them out since Apple offers a return policy with no questions asked. I have bought Bose speakers in the past, but it was time for something to compliment my 27 inch iMac and these were surprisingly awesome. I can't believe how loud they are and I can never understand how Bose manages to give you surround sound with only 2 channels. They're definitely not intended for deep bass but rather for really clean audio. Even at high volume, the sound stays clear, without distortions. I noticed that my MP3s recorded at higher bit rates actually give you a really nice range of sound. Overall worth the cost and this is a product where you notice that you get what you pay for. They're not cheap because they don't sound like the cheap versions. If you want bass that knocks pictures off your walls, you may want to consider something with a stand alone subwoofer, but if you're into quality audio without the clutter, these are perfect and cosmetically compliment the look and finish of the iMac.

    Very Nice

I wanted to replace some old JBL speakers that I thought were pretty good. After seeing good reviews for this speaker I decided to try it. Very surprised at the great sound through these small speakers. I didn't know what I was missing by keeping those old speakers for so long.

I expected to be blown away by the sound and so far I feel indifferent. The power is suprising and more than enough, but I cannot say that one feature truly stands over and above other products. I've been playing with different volume and EQ settings looking for that sweet spot; still have not found it. It's a good product, but not amazing, as computer speakers they are more than capable of doing whatever job you need.

Crisp, Clean, Spacious Sound, Love Them

    • Written by from Schaumburg

I had bought a set of Klipsch Pro Media 2.1 speakers which sounded pretty good for the price $139, but I wasn't pleased with the clarity of the vocals which sounded flat and muted. So I went out and did some A/B comparisons at a local store. I compared everything in the store and the Companion 20s sounded better than every other speaker (including the Bose Companion 2 & 5). So I bought a set and brought them home to compare with the Klipsch Pro Medias. The Bose companion 20s are so much clearer and more spacious sounding in the mids and highs, with great bass response without the subwoofer clutter. I'm thrilled with the improved for another $86, these speakers are perfect for music listening while working. I'm very pleased with the purchase.

    Amazing Sound Quality

    • Written by from Victoria

Well worth the $, it sounds like a system 5 times as expensive & 3 times the size
The only improvement I would suggest would be to have this set also be AirPlay compatible. Save on the wires.

    Took The Plunge...

    • Written by from Clifton

My God! What an excellent set of speakers. Worth every penny when it comes to lows, mids or highs. Sure you can get more for your money like 5.1s from Creative or Logitech but this is premium stuff and you know you can't go wrong with Bose. I took the plunge and will do it again if it comes to that. Excellent build quality from fit, finish to packaging, you just can't find any flaws with it. Plus the set beautifully compliments your Mac anytime.

    There is a secret...

    • Written by from Nunoa

First of all, sorry for my english. Guys, this companion 20 is a very good speaker system. Solid build, beautiful speakers, a good sound. One big problem: the poor bass. Any solution?... YES!!. Download Boom from Mac App Store. Boom is an utility with an equalizer. You can use it on youtube, itunes, grooveshark, etc. It is a system wide equalizer. Just increase the bass and... OMG!, the sound now is great, with deep bass. ;)

I bought the Bose Companion 20's four months ago for my MacBook Pro and I am a bit disappointed. The sound quality on high volume is not that good and not to mention the poor bass which sometimes irritates your ears even at low volume.I am not saying its a bad sound system,I just expected more for the money. My advice is to spend some time in the Bose store and try them few times in a quiet ambience with your own music, before to buy!
    Hope this helped!!!

Hurt at the register, but worth it each and every time I turn them on!

    • Written by from CLARKSVILLE

I was at electronic express and I saw these for the first time. I was astonished by the sound that came out of them. I seen the price and was turned off. During the summer months we travel, and after I purchased my MacBook Pro I was searching for a good pair of speakers. I also was looking for a pair of good sounding speakers at the office, so after about two months I broke down and purchased them. I haven't looked back yet! I am going to wow some folks at a Christmas party today! Bose got this one right, and every time folks pass my office they ask where is the sub? I just laugh! The only drawback is that they are not bluetooth, but you get past that after you hear the sound! Again, Bose got it right this time!

Do they look great? DARN RIGHT THEY DO!

No complaints with these babies. Classical, pop, electronic, rock, opera.....you name it I've tried all kinds of music and they all sound wonderful. I also love the innovative volume control pod. It feels great in your hand - AS IF APPLE DESIGNED IT. You can also directly attach headphones or an external device like an ipod to the volume control pod!

    Location, Location

    • Written by from Slidell

I finally bought the Bose Companion 20's after about a year of listening to them in store displays. They sounded the best to me. When I plugged them into my MacBook Pro I was disappointed. They did not sound any better than the old $50 Logitech speakers I was replacing. They did not sound anything like they did in the store displays. I was going to return them but I happened to play them in a different location and everything changed for the better. Originally I had them about a foot from the wall. They failed to impress and sounded cheap and tinny. Moving them away from the wall uncorked them. Placing them about 4" on either side of my MacBook's 15" screen on a desk without a wall in front or behind it delivered great sound. If you close your eyes and roll around in the desk chair, you can find focused sweet spots where the sound seems to surround you as if you were in a room among the band members and individual instruments. I do not know how they make a sound appear to come from behind you or to your side when they are physically located in front of you, but they can do this if positioned correctly. If you like music with pounding bass you can feel, these are not for you. If you want an alternative to headphones, and clear sound with depth, these are a good choice.
