    third times a charm

I am currently on my third replacement mophie now. Why you ask? The charge port for all these iphone 4 mophie chargers breaks if you try to move the phone while it's charging. The connector is just way too flimsy. If they fix that then the charger would be perfect. I am in no way rough with my phone but the design of the charge port is horrendous. As long as you don't move your phone while it is charging you will be fine. To be honest I still use it (the third one) but I cannot disturb its meditative charging process or it will banish me to the land of no charge.

    Poor design, short life expectancy

Here's the deal. The product works great out-of-the-box. Due to the design, the micro USB connect gradually becomes loose sinking into the case and eventually you lose your ability to charge the unit. You will be lucky to get more than 6 months of use from this product. That said and considering the disposable nature of this product, I would recommend looking at less expensive charging cases that perform just as well.

Great battery life, terrible design that will break.

While this device is great for having extra battery juice, what the other reviewers say is absolutely true. This product breaks EASILY. Myself and two others have within a week of buying one, also damaged it -- One of us have already broken the charging port (as indicated by others to be fragile) and two of us have dropped the case and have cracks in it now. Thus, if you think your case will survive a fall, rest assured. It WILL NOT. Lastly, this device is uncomfortable to hold while plugged in because of the location of the power port. Mophie needs to go back to the drawing board.

Awarding 1 star for the battery life, but really can't give any more due to the obviously faulty design: not drop resistant, power port is fragile, and the issue with holding the device while plugged in...

Posting this review for black, white, and red products as they are all the same.

    Horrible

I have had three (bought two, Mophie replaced one). Each one is more useless than the last one.
The problem is simple, the plug is not stable and once you plug it and unplug it several times, it becomes loose and will no longer take a charge.
I have complained directly to Mophie, am I will wait for a better design before I buy a new one.

Not worth the case sticking, Impossible to remove

I've always loved Mophie products, but this one has a huge design flaw when it comes to the 4S. Don't get me wrong it holds the charge and is fabulous for when you need that extra battery life. The problem is that you can't get it off your phone when you are done. I don't want that bulky case on my phone 24/7, just when I need it and you can't get it off. I literally had to pry my phone out praying I wouldn't break anything using two dulled knives to try and break the seal. It is ridiculous.

    Broke within 3 weeks

I bought this and instantly fell in love. Not only did this case protect most of my phone; it felt great and wasn't terrible so far as looks go either. It was great with the battery life as well and it definitely is not overrated. I had no problems with until about 3 weeks in when suddenly it wouldn't charge. I tried different chargers and different outlets and nothing would bring my Mophie back to life. All in all I'm sure I got the defective one but Mophie and Apple wouldn't give me a new one. The one bad thing about all the Juice Pack Airs' is that they don't allow you to sync and charge at the same time. The only one that lets you do that is the Juice Pack Pro which is about $20 more. I just picked one up so hopefully it works out this time.

    Consistent micro usb issues

    • Written by from Memphis

I recently bought one of these for my wife, having heard great things about them. The case had a micro usb issue in which the connector port literally separated itself internally from the 30 pin dock connector AND the charging function for the cases internal battery. I got it replaced through mophie (with as little hassle as warranty replacement can be, which is still some) for a brand new one. With less than a week of use, the new case developed the exact same issue.

I have extensive technician experience working on iPhones and with apple (third party included) accessories, and can readily recognize port issues. These cases have one. I do not recommend buying this solely for this reason. Other than that, the case was everything promised. The problem is one of physical design, not of functionality. If you read through these reviews, I'm also not alone in noticing this issue. I'm not rating Mophie in general (for the most part, they're great), but rather just this case. Don't buy this case.

stopped taking a charge after 2 months

loved my juice pack for my old 3GS, never ever had a prob with it. Bought this new juice pack for my new 4GS same night I bought my new phone, I was so thrilled. Now two months later, it won't take a charge from the micro USB cord. No replacement bases on the Apple website or on Amazon or on Mophie's website either, So it's now a piece of $80 junk. what a f'ing scam. If it had broke in the 1st 30 days I could have gotten a replacement no questions asked, but oh no, it broke after 60 days. I know it's not an Apple product so not Apples fault or covered by AppleCare, but at $80 you'd think it would last longer than 60 days. what a rip

    Mophie battery loss

    • Written by from Bristol

Initially the Mophie for iPhone 4S was brilliant. It carried enough juice for charging phone from 5 to 85%.
however, after 6 months it only manages 20% and often has loss of connection to charge requiring the bottom section to be remived and reconnected. Also error messages on phone saying unrecognised device require same action.
All in all it has a poor life for an expensive device.
Chances of replacement at Apple Store? Slim I guess.

It is a good idea. it works ok. I get a whole day usage of it. however removing the Iphone 4S is a challenge on its on. once the phone is in there good luck removing. sometimes I think im going to crack the screen by removing it . also the Mini USB design is cheap and if you charge this thing on daily bases it will get harder to insert the mini connector into the unit.

    Terrible Design and Product Quality.

I bought Juice Pack Air from the apple site. I guess the one sold through Apple site has 2 piece design. There is a lower part that houses the Micro USB connect, the switch, and the 30 pin connector. And the upper part that acts as a shield as well as probably houses the battery.

In first month of usage, the paint was peeling off. You can imagine on a white case how horrible it could look. In 4-5 months time, the lower part that has the USB connector was wiggling a lot and had to be quite deftly held together for the charging cable to actually make the connection to charge. The following month the plastic began to wear off ... i mean it was chipping off, broke.

Writing to Mophie yielded no result as they claimed that they have one year warranty from the date of purchase. Unfortunately in my case, i did not raise a customer complaint right in the beginning and did it quite late in the game. So there i guess they are right.

My final conclusion on this case is:

    a) It looks good for first few weeks till the paint starts to wear off and it gets uglier and uglier by the day.
    b) The Lower connector is very poorly built. First the Micro USB port will give way. Next the Plastics will begin to wear off. The toggle switch also looks very vulnerable.
    c) No way you will get 500 charge cycles as claimed. In my case it completely stopped working in 1 year 2 months. It does not add up to 500 charge cycles.
    d) The capability to charge the phone also depletes very rapidly. First 3-4 months, while you are getting used to poor quality of the paint job, it does charge the phone quite well but then quite precipitously the ability to charge drops.

i dont know whether they sell the lower piece seperately or not? If they do, i would want to know because may be just may be i can extract few more months of life out of this thing. And if they dont, then this is nothing but a very expensive paper weight.

Mophie may love you ... but my love for Mophie went out the door!

    Serious issues

I bought 5 of these and they all had problems. It all seemed to stem from the usb port. It was great for the first couple of months but the usb port started to wiggle and and then stop working. I did drop my phone with the case and after that it never seemed to work again. I use it now as a protection for the phone but the battery is unusable.

One was a gift for my brother and he later told me he had an issue with the USB port as well.

    Waste of money

I bought it thinking that it would keep me from having to charge for 2 days. It barely lasts an additiona 6 hours and I keep all of my apps closed and blue tooth turned off. Also a horrible feature of this "lack of Juice" pack is the power plug. it is so short that it keeps falling out and you don't even realize it. That is ok when you are in the office and it is lying nicely on the desk, but when you are in the car charging it, it is constantly falling out and not charging.

Stopped working about 4 months after I purchased it: doesn't charge anymore. If I find the receipt, I will send it back and look for another brand. The idea is good but it's a lot of money for a few uses over 4 months

    Charging Port Keeps Breaking Off

    • Written by from Raleigh

12 of 15 people found this useful

Overall it's a great product. It offers a great battery backup for the phone, but every two months the charging port breaks off INSIDE the device and I have to keep shipping it back for a replacement. It's getting a little annoying because it's not something that I'm doing wrong and it's costing about 8 bucks each time I have to ship it back. I'm on the fourth one now in six months. Each time they keep replacing the device but it's already cost me about $25 in shipping charges to send the things back.

Until mophie makes the charging port more secure inside the device, this rating will be 1 star.

    Traveler

I purchased the Mophie due to the fact I travel 4-5 days a week and need a portable power source for the iPhone4. My first trip with the Mophie was this week and it was fully charged on Sunday. Very excited because I thought this could be very good product/fit. Monday, the charge didn't hold any more than 20 minutes while on my drive from the airport to the office. I thought it was my fault so I charged it on Tuesday for most of the day. I had four lights on the battery. Again, the charge was no longer than 20 minutes. I called Apple Support they are shipping me a new one. Previously, I have purchased Portable mobile chargers from Amazon & Target for $50-60 less than this product. These have worked well other than the bulkiness of the extra pack on the phone but charges will get at least 90% from 20% in a short time. I’m unsure if I got a defective one or not. I will change the rating if the replacement works as advertised

It was amazing while it lasted - all of 2 months. Then the small switch broke. I contacted Mophie who asked for my orginal receipt, despite the fact I registered it. Needless to say - I could not find that receipt (my own fault) and I was out of luck. Well as underwhelmed as I was with their service, I was sad to see $100 wasted as it fell apart amd stopped working from regular use within 4 months.

    Terrible product.

This is the 2nd one I've had. Now this one is having the same problem as the first. The charging connector has failed on two occasions and I'm not gonna try a thrid. The product is great when it works but it doesn't work for very long.
