Great concept... but weak design & short life.

    • Written by from Lansdale

I've had an Apple 4S for about 1.5 years, and in that time I've gone through 2 Mophie's. Both 'died' when the little charge ON/OFF switch failed, making them useless as phone rechargers. The other major design weakness is the miniature USB connector. Both of mine were loose to the point of being sloppy. My wife's iPhone 4 Mophie died when the mini-USB connector broke internally.

Charger works but extension cord doesn't last

    • Written by from BEE BRANCH

I bought this case to use with my iphone because I jog and bike long distances and with the GPS the battery drains very quickly. I got this thinking it was the solution but I am on my 5th extension cord to use with earbuds and they just won't work. If you bend it at all it goes haywire. One ear will work then the other or neither. I have contacted them and every time they send me a free piece but come on, who wants to hassle with that every time you turn around. Since I got this to use with the earbuds, it isn't all that great a product for me. It does provide an ok case but does add double the weight of the phone and is WAY to expensive for just an iphone case. I am disappointed and would probably not recommend this product to a friend unless they weren't planning on using it with earbuds.

    Beards beware

This product works great. I no longer fear mid-day battery death. But a warning to unshaven men: your facial hair WILL get stuck in joint between case and phone. And it will hurt.

    Power Jack Failures

    • Written by from Schnecksville

Have had 3 Mophies for iphone 4s and each used by a different person. Every one has failed due to charger jack issues. In each case, they have lasted maybe 12-18 months, then the charger cable fails to make a solid connection in the female charge port. As a result, it becomes difficult or impossible to charge the battery in the Mophie making it useless over time. Not sure I'd buy one for an iPhone 5 unless design changes.

    Average product

    • Written by from Zumbrota

I've used this product 3 different times between 2 phones (4 & 4S). Buyers who use this product, do not drop on a hard surface, especially at the corner where the USB connection is located. The outer plastic shell is very weak and vulnerable to cracking. At that point the case would no longer connect to charge the phone for me. This has happened with all 3 of mine. Fortunately, it's happened within the 1 year warranty time frame and Mophie has been very good about replaced with a new product. I'm sure that most iPhone users have dropped their phone on hard surfaces and good protection is important. I would suggest purchasing the "Pro" case by Mophie as it appears more durable on the outside. This is a rather expensive product for what it's asked to do. Compound that with its clear design flaws I would have to say "buyer beware".

    somewhat durable

    • Written by from Bridgewater

I tend to be pretty clumsy, so when I was looking for a case I thought mophie would be ok. It held up pretty well, but after the 15th drop (aka 5 months) that's what did it and the port to connect to the computer or any usb port disconnected and will not work anymore. Will I buy it again? Maybe not, but I'll probably look to the external packs instead.

    Mini USB Broken

    • Written by from Lima

I've always had trouble getting the cable plugged in to the Mophie case. Now, at 6 months old, the connector is shot & I can't charge it any more. WAS very happy with the extra battery life & protection the case offers. Almost every review mentions the Mini USB problem

    Must be an iPhone issue

    • Written by from Rancho Santa Margarita

I've got a 4S and bought a mophie that worked great. Suddenly it won't charge my iPhone! The phone will charge when I plug the mophie into the power cord, but not when it's unplugged. So I bought a new one--same thing! Went to yet another store and they tried my phone in a mophie there and the very same things happened. The clerk plugged in his 4S and it was fine. So the mophie works, and my phone can get charged THRU the mophie to the power cord, but not BY the mophie, whether its a new or old unit. What gives???

recessed buttons are hard to press

    • Written by from Brooklyn

First off, this thing is a lot more bulky and heavy than you might think from the photos. The thin and light iPhone becomes kind of a brick — but that's just going to be true with any external battery case with enough volume to provide a decent charge.

Regarding this case in particular: the buttons on your phone end up very recessed, so you have to really dig to get at them. More fumbling for the volume, for the lock button, for the ringer/silent switch.

They could have just gone the route a lot of thicker cases take and create outer buttons that press through to the buttons on the phone itself — but they didn't.

Otherwise, this case seems (so far) to be very well made and lives up to its power claims.

Great looking but such proor build quality - STILL!

    • Written by from HENLEY-ON-THAMES

Why don't Morphie address the USB issue, my second USB socket as gone the same way as the first, not working. I treated this one with kid gloves and it's lasted less time than the first! I bought it from Apple so hope they will replace it, but after this one gives up (which reading these reviews, it will) unfortunately I think that's it for me and Morphie. Such a shame as it is very good in every other way and has got me out of problems on those long days when I fly. Also it's really good in the hand and I think improves the look of my iPhone.

    USB Port Issues

    • Written by from Eagle River

You Would Think After Years of Problems They Would Improve the USB Port. I've read many reviews going back years and always the same issue with the USB. Mophie has replaced 4 for me so far. I take good care of my things and this case is no exception. I like the look and feel of the case and battery is great but I'm tired of having to ship mine back every 6-8 months for a replacement. Also, my first replacement they sent me back a used one, not even in original packing. Had to ship that one back too for a NEW case, only to have the same issue with the USB. I'm going to try a different, cheaper brand and see how I do!

The product does what it is designed to do but when mine is in standby mode it mutes my phone. I had the same problem with the Mophie I had for a month and the Apple store replaced it; now this one is doing the same thing !???

Should I try a third time?

    • Written by from Scottsdale

I purchased my first Mophie. I had to return it after a month or so because a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark would appear noting that the device was not compatible with my phone -Apple 4S. The store exchanged my Mophie -(the Juice pack case) for a new case ONLY. It worked for about two months until my original charger cord stopped charging my new Mophie.
YES - I will take it back to the store, a third time, that I purchased and exchanged my old device for a new one.
Question is - do I try round three?
I like it - the weight and the extra charge.
***When I first bought it, I remember the sales girl telling me to keep my receipt. She advised me to take a photo of it. Hmmmmmm?

Good, but with a design flaw

    • Written by from Madison

It does what it says. The case is well designed, seems rugged, and it easily slides into a pants pocket. Of course it adds bulk and weight -- it's a battery. But they did it well.

The rather serious design flaw is the USB plug. If you look carefully at the product picture you'll see that the plug is recessed on the lower-right corner. In that location the curve of the case partially blocks the plug. The result is that it's very hard to fully insert a plug, and it easily and frequently comes unplugged. It's frustrating and sometimes you'll think you're charging, but discover the plug wasn't (or couldn't be) inserted deeply enough.

    Battery ok...case not so much

    • Written by from louisville

love the look and feel and so far the extra battery has been good (not using it regularly and take it off to charge phone- so no usb issues (knock wood) yet).
What is a problem is that after 2 weeks the case has already started to chip and bubble up on the back.

    Okay product

    • Written by from Bremerton

I've gotten my first mophie juice pack air for my iPhone 4 and it was working great for at least 4 months or so but when I dropped it a couple of times or accidentally hit something with it, for some reason the usb port on my case came loose and it just made it harder for me to recharge the case even though my usb cord was working just fine. Other words it'll work for awhile and once it gets dropped a couple of times that's when it'll stop working. I did of course got myself a second one when I realized I had a one year warranty with the company but of course I was dead wrong when I thought it'll be just fine and turns out the usb port came loose again. I'm never going to get this product again if they keep giving me a case with a loose usb port even though the usb cord works perfectly fine. I think they need to figure out a way to make the usb port not so loose or at least make one that has a reliable usb port that's not so small or make it similar to the one that's usually on the phone already. The product is okay but this is the second time I'm having the same problems and I really do like it when it charges my phone plus I don't have to keep recharging my phone once my battery is low.

    Nice battery, but causes sratches!

    • Written by from Kirkville

This is a great case if you're going to be without a power source for a long time, but don't get it if you don't like scratches on your phone, or don't have a full body clear film for your case. As you'll most likely be taking this case on and off to use only when needed, you'll be causing little scratches all along the sides of the phone. I learned this the hard way. It also adds a lot of bulk and weight to your phone, so if you're someone who likes the slim, minimalist design of the iPhone, this is not for you! Additionally, even though it is a hard case with a soft interior, you will damage your phone if you happen to drop it (which is extremely easy to do with how slippery this case is) as the top half of the case just slides on, doesn't snap into the bottom half, and remains loose fitting. I even had it coming apart when it was in my pocket!

Seemed to kill my Phone battery life

    • Written by from arlington

I have used the Mophie Plus for a few weeks, following the recommendation that I let the phone battery run down before turning on the pack. My iPhone battery now drains much faster when I'm not using the pack. After five standby hours overnight, the battery had gone from 100% to 60%. Before the Mophie, it would have still been over 90% full. Maybe I just got a defective one?

Good case, but bad power connection

    • Written by from Wahiawa

Had my case for about two weeks. The case itself looks sharp, and is smooth and comfortable to hold. However, after only two weeks, when I pulled the port cable out, I heard a snap. The USB adapter inside the case snapped off (inside) and now the case will not charge. This happened with very little force and I have heard several other reviews mentioning this happening. I will be returning this case as having to worry about babying it every time I unplug it isn't worth it.

    Good but needs a fix

    • Written by from Glasgow

The Juice Pack cover is great, in that it looks good, feels pretty sturdy, and ideal for feeding the phone extra power when it needs it.

However, I have recently been experiencing a problem where the power cable gets loose very easily, and constantly disconnects itself. From day one the power plug looked like it didnt quite enter the socket as deeply as it needs to. Over time, it seems to have got looser, and as a result now disconnects a lot.

I think that part needs re-engineered. The power plug needs to sit firmly in the socket, and it doesnt. FIx that, and it'll be an excellent utility.
