Sounds great and works like a charm

    • Written by from Greensboro

I decided to buy this after reading the reviews, finding the only negative was setting up the speaker. I found the entire process to be quick and painless. After hooking my ethernet cable to the speaker and opening the web address given in the instructions, I was on my wireless network within a minute or two. I then used a USB cable to update the firmware, which was very well explained and, again, worked exactly as described in a matter of a few minutes. I'm not sure why this was such an issue for others; I experienced no problems at all. From this point, connecting wirelessly, docked, and by USB from my iMac all worked flawlessly.

The sound, in my opinion, is very good. Depending on what you are listening to, the bass can be a little heavy. I agree with some of the others that when using an iPod with recordings that are heavy on bass, the bass reducer setting may be better. In most cases, though, I prefer no adjustment at all. Overall, these are much better than my previous Bose setup. I own Shure SE535 earphones, which I really like. This gives me something reasonably equivalent to listen to my music on when I don't want to wear earphones. I highly recommend this product. You get what you pay for.

    What a Revelation!

    • Written by from Jacksonville

Well, the Apple guy said this was the best Airplay enabled speaker, but that was a MAJOR understatement. I have owned a number of high end HiFi systems in my time, the price of which might make your hair curl. So, I had zero expectation that this little offering from B+W would meet my very high audio standards, but, I am listening spellbound to it now; to a selection of classical, jazz, female vocal, folk guitar and blues music from my collection that I know extremely well and I can tell you this is an amazing performer - deep, but well controlled bass, clear mid-range and sizzling treble with an overall sweet and very musical balance. I am tapping my feet, now, unresistably, to grooves I could never imagine this little Air could ever render favorably. It has verve and persuasively fills the room with big musical images - you could listen all day, which is exactly what I've just done!

If you think this is an expensive unit then I can tell you that you need to consider that this is the ONLY unit you will ever need to invest in. I also have the Bose unit, but this Zeppelin Air puts it deep in the shade on every level. A masterpiece of engineering in a surprisingly compact design - excellent; enchanting, ethereal and exciting all at once!

Installation was very easy!! Just follow the notes precisely and position it carefully to let it breath and place it on a solid base or table to get the best from it.

    I was DRUNK!

    • Written by from Groveland

I was aware of this product but had decided it was more than a non-audiophile needed. I was leaning toward Bose ($300 cheaper). I went to PF Changs for lunch yesterday - had 4 Vodkas and bam - I dropped by the Apple store after lunch and acquired a TOP NOTCH I Touch speaker system. I am totally happy - though I will note that the set-up guide displayed screen shots did not AT ALL match my Airplay set-up. However - EVERYTHING connected and I am playing songs from my Mac Book Pro I Tunes and my I Touch. I am more than pleased. If you have some free bucks (or get drunk at lunch) buy this product!!

Zeppelin Air really is the best

    • Written by from Edmonton

Okay, I am not a fan of any particular company. I always go with quality regardless of the company behind it.

I have been doing research for a good dock for past six months. Finally, put 4 docks (I don't want to name names as I feel its not appropriate but they are considered to be the best docks in any reviews) in a very tight scrutiny, almost in the war zone in my totally noise proof room. The detail in sound I have never heard before from any other dock.

The best thing about Zeppelin Air is that it sounds best amongst all other docks exist to-date, and above all, its AirPlay feature rocks. Oh my... what a convenience. I only docked my iPhone/iPod once to check, it works ok.

I did not experience any trouble in setting up wireless Airplay. I just can't be happier. I wish if I could buy more for each room. It is that good.

All I would say that it is a great addition in my audio arsenal. Very happy with it. It worth every single penny. I would highly recommend to anyone who REALLY wants the best possible sound from docking speakers.... and its beautiful as well.

Zeppelin Air was my first B&W purchase and I am now looking forward to buy more B&W products, especially their 800 speakers series.

The Way Much Better Than Any Bose

    • Written by from vancouver

I was used to Bose Fan ,bought a lots of Bose,, but later when I bought B&W D803 loud speaker for my HT(cost me $36,000 for whole HT), after that I am falling love with B&W stuffs, such as this ipod dock, after listening for about a month, it is really really better than Bose, even better than My B&O BeoSound 8 which I bought from B&O store, only found the deep bass but sound quality is not good as B&W...

So personally I love B&W's after that love B&O , only comparing ipod dock in apple store here is my Rank:

    1.B&W 2.Focal 3.B&O ... ?Bose

    Zeppelin VS Zeppelin Air

    • Written by from Toronto

Being an owner of the original zeppelin, I had a hard time believing how much better the zeppelin Air could sound. After purchasing the new Air play version, I immediately put the new one to the test. Right out of the box I would say that the initial sound did not seem to be better considering all the internal upgrades. I have to say I was considering taking it back. The fact that it was brand new I decided to give it a chance to break in.
After three weeks of continuous play, I performed one more side by side comparison with the original zeppelin. I have to say that the Air version really outperforms the original in the following areas:

    -Wider sound stage
-Vocals have more body and sounds more palpable
-Even in airplay mode the new zeppelin out performs the original

There was one thing that I found interesting though. the new Air version is considerably lighter than the old version. With all the upgrades I can't imagine why.

    Best speakers

    • Written by

For me it was plug n play. So no did not have any issues with streaming music from my Mac, iPhone or iPod wirelessly. People having issues, READ THE MANUAL! Check your router if you are setting up a wireless AirPlay connection. It exaplains very well.

The quality and clarifty of sound is superb. I don't think there is any other dock comes closer to Zeppelin Air at the moment, might be in the future but this is an excellent product. And so far I have no issues. I set the bass to -1 and it sounds great.

Even remote works flawlessly, no issues. It doesn't require to point it to the dock in order for remote to get to work. I can easily operate the remote from wash room if the dock is in my bedroom. simple.

If you don't like it, return it. it's that simple. There are few others AirPlay docks available in the market that you can go for.

    Problems:
    Little to no user interface.
    Complicated counter intuitive setup.
    Fails at setup repeatedly.

A sad first AirPlay product that give an excellent technology and idea a very bad name. I'm looking forward to Air Play products from companies with the user in mind.

Sure it is pretty, but does it work?

Another case of form before function.

    Great speakers

    • Written by from Edmonton

I too was puzzled in getting these or the Bose SoundDock 10. Bought both for comparison at home in a quiet room. Bose is going back to store. Zeppelin Air hands down won the race in all aspects. Wireless setup was a breeze. Not sure why people are having problems. I just plugged in to my Time Capsule and AirPlay connected in a sec.

Different LED indicators are a bit tricky but once you read the manual, you would know everything.

Transmitting Apple Lossless via AirPlay is great, way better than bluetooth. very detailed sound, punchy bass, but if you are true audiophile, and want to hear your music as it is meant to be heard, get Sennheiser HD800 headphones and a good tube amp/DAC. As far as these speakers go, it delivers what promises.

I am not sure how these will be compare to Philips Fidelio SoundSphere (twice the price) when they are on sale in Europe sometimes in May.

    fantastic sound quality

    • Written by from Lawrenceville

I bought this product because i love to play music and do other things with my Iphone at the same time. I was very excited to hear about AirPlay and try it. I read the reviews and all the people that said they had many problems seting it up. My advise for these items is to READ THE Manuals before you touch anything. The set up took almost no time at all. The quality of the sound from the system is fantastic. Its as good as the Bose system I use in the same room. I also love the stylish look of the system. The only down side that i have found is that the remote controll does not work very well with the Ipod on my phone when the phone is not docked to the system the volume does not increase smoothly and sometimes goes down instead of up. This only happens with Ipod and not other music applications like Pandora. I would highly recomend this system to amyone that loves great sound, the airplay ability ( that's the main reason why i got this speaker) and stylish looks.

    Mediocre

    • Written by from Del Mar

Air Play was straightforward to set up. The ergonomics of the controls are sometimes frustrating as one has to determine what's the color of tiny LED---hard from across the room.

The sound is veiled with a distinct bass heaviness --- even after adjusting
the bass in the kludgy way that B-W requires.

The Zeppelin Air is probably OK for non-critical listening where access to a real
    Hi-Fi system is not possible.

Easy Set Up, Excellent Sound, Striking Design

    • Written by from WASHINGTON

Anyone having issuing setting up the Air must have pre-existing issues with their WiFi connection or must have overlooked the instructions. The installation of the Air is simply intuitive...

...The sound is excellent: loud when you need it to be, soft and detailed otherwise. Each Air comes with three months free access to B&W's "Society of Sound" which will likely convince you that there is a distinct difference in quality of an MP4 and a Lossless file..

...The air feels and sounds like a thoughtfully crafted device. It might be too much for some, not enough for others...but if you are looking for an excellent sounding dock/sound bar/etc this is the one.

    Excellent sound but..

    • Written by from Princeton

the sound is excellent. I can't give it 5 stars because the setup is not friendly. I had no problem initially setting up Airplay. Connecting the iPhone was problematic. First of all make sure that you dock the iPhone without a case. It won't work otherwise. I think the documentation should emphasize this. I spent several hours resetting the speaker before it dawned on me to remove the case. However I still can not get the Setting on the iPhone that controls the speaker bass. I don't even understand why this critical setting was placed only on the docking device and not on the web configuration as well. In addition, every time I reset the speaker it comes up with a flashing yellow light and I can't configure Airplay anymore. I have to power down the speaker several times to get to the purple light. Like I said the sound is excellent but I would have liked to change the bass settings. The support is also inadequate. There is no number you can call. You can communicate only via email.

Great Speaker - Solved WiFi Issues, iPad 2 Works

    • Written by from Calgary

This is a great speaker which sounds awesome after you get it working. It works fine when connected wired or docked but the wireless can cause some major pains. I have it working with all my devices now which is great.

The WiFi issues were related to the router that I have. I had to use another wireless router to get it to work.

    - iPod Docked works fine and the sound is great.
    - iPad Docked works fine too. You select the Zeppelin Air you configured if you want to see video while it is docked.
    - Both the iPod and iPad charge while in the dock.
    - Both the iPod and iPad can use AirPlay
    - Devices can be docked when other devices take over. If the docked device is connected to the AirPlay you will need to disconnect it using the selection icon. You do not need to take the device out of the dock and it will still charge.

Sorry I could not put my troubleshooting tips in here but it is worth it once you get the wireless working with the right router.

    Love My Zeppelin

    • Written by from Somerville

That is once I got it working on my wireless network. Frustrating experience that took hours of troubleshooting and luck. I started with the wired install approach using the included network cable. No luck after multiple tries and using a paper clip to rest the machine according to the instructions. I could not get the firmware to update either. The firmware update software would not find the Zeppelin despite being connected via USB as instructed. Then after multiple attempts I pointed the driver install location to the Bowers and Wilkins folder on my Windows 7 PC. That worked and I was able to update the firmware. What finally worked for me was doing the wireless setup using my iPad. The Zeppelin will act as a wireless spot that you can connect to with you iPhone or iPad. Use the browser to get to the Zeppelin setup page. Worked on one try. I also found that after earler failed installs that redoing the firmware update reset the Zep betterr than the paper clip button in the back.

    Best Speaker System Ever

    • Written by from Charlotte

I have been using the Zeppelin for hours and hours, and I must say it is far superior to ANY competition. Originally, I was looking at getting the Bose SoundDock 10. But when I listened to the Bose, I was not as pleased. I am very confident in saying that this is the best sound system that there is to offer. It is very balanced, and even shows up on the ipod with a speaker EQ for bass, and some ipod settings. It was great that you could turn up and down the bass. I am very pleased with Bowers and Wilkins, and will be getting a lot more products by this company. B&W by far is the leading speaker brand for anything you may need. I would recommend them to anyone.
