    Best BOOMbox on this planet!

    • Written by from Crofton

I will not bore you with my bonafides as some expert on sound reproduction to justify my positive rating. I'm just like you, I love music. Anyone who would spend $600 on a boombox has to LOVE music! I've also owned a Sounddock for 4 years. It has been a flawless performer and I'll continue to use it for my portable needs. Having said that I can safely say that the Zeppelin outperforms the Sounddock in every way. Imaging, accuracy and sheer volume. The Airplay works fine for me. My Macbook, Ipad and Itouch work well with the Zeppelin. I've only had it for a few days but, so far so good. My Apple Lpssless files recorded from advanced resolution CDs (XRCD, HDCD, SHM-CD, K2HD, Mobile Fidelity, etc.) sound glorious! I must recommend you get one...NOW! Happy listening!!!

Amazing speakers, but AirPlay doesn't work

    • Written by from New York

The speakers sound amazing. (Note that it will take a few hours/days for them to burn in, however, so they don't sound amazing out of the box. But soon, they will.)

BUT, the AirPlay is useless (even with the latest firmware installed).

When I turn the speakers on, AirPlay works. But it permanently disconnects usually within an hour or two, meaning I've got to power the speakers off and on to re-enable it. This is just terrible engineering -- I mean, if the speaker realizes it's lost the Wi-Fi connection, then it should try reconnecting on its own afterwards! Really just unforgiveable.

But also, quite often the AirPlay just stops working from one song to another. The connection isn't lost, because I can reselect the speaker as output, and the AirPlay works again. So I have no idea what's going on there.

I could forgive short gaps in AirPlay, because I understand there might be WiFi interference. But the fact that it just dies all the time, and I can rarely get it to play more than 2 or 3 songs in a row, makes it completely useless.

Hopefully B&W fixes these in future firmware updates, but I doubt it, since I figure they would have been fixed already, since it seems like everyone on the Internet is complaining about the same thing.

    Airplay problems with Iphone 4S

    • Written by from London

A few minor set up problems which were dealt with promptly and efficiently by B&W support team. This is a stunning piece of music machinery and I love it. Tried the volume on full max and very little distoration. This would be my piece de resistance if the airplay on the iproducts could be finally sorted out.

The Best Speakers Heard Ever !

    • Written by from mumbai

This is the best speaker i have heard . For its size , i think its mesmerizing . Bass is excellent . Acoustics are fabulous .
Connecting to the Airplay took nothing more than 5 mins . It is very easy . I'm from India and the net speeds are horrible here , but still no lag
until im streaming a video along with it . Easy switch to any ios device like iphone etc. Extremely user-friendly .
I dont no why people have had problems with connecting to airplay and have rated it 1 star. Dont be so harsh on this beauty !
Rather than buying a Beosound 8 (made of paper cones) the Zeppelin air is the best buy .
I recommend this product totally to anyone who loves portability and pure music .
Also connected it to the Playstation 3 , and it works flawlessly . Amazing sound . Great device
Bowers & Wilkins Zeppelin Air is the best out there ! I think its totally under-priced for the features , quality of sound & design !
    Thanks .

The Way Much Better Than Any Bose

    • Written by from vancouver

I was used to Bose Fan ,bought a lots of Bose,, but later when I bought B&W D803 loud speaker for my HT(cost me $36,000 for whole HT), after that I am falling love with B&W stuffs, such as this ipod dock, after listening for about a month, it is really really better than Bose, even better than My B&O BeoSound 8 which I bought from B&O store, only found the deep bass but sound quality is not good as B&W...

So personally I love B&W's after that love B&O , only comparing ipod dock in apple store here is my Rank:

    1.B&W 2.Focal 3.B&O ... ?Bose

    :-) peace

B&W Greatness, but has some low freq sonic issues.

    • Written by from Lynbrook

The sound overall is VERY impressive, and at times with the right recordings & apple lossless format are AMAZING! The D/A Converter and separate amps for each driver may account in part for the superior over the original Zeppelin.

The Sub creates to much bass of which can become muddy at times.
It may be the cross-over placing too much music on 50 Watt Sub (away from the mids) or a DSP Bass issue.
The 'Sub' takes on more of the music then it can playback cleanly.
With certain musical passages this 'thudsy' like sound is not at all apparent.
(certain electronic space music or certain rock songs with vocals)

Reading that people are lowering the bass eq or raising the treble on their ipod is a mistake cause NO Eq should be used with the Zeppelin Air! (needs to be off)
(this according to B&W, due to its own complex internal DSP)

Listening to the Rolling Stones "lady Jane" on the Zeppelin Air was s t u n n i n g.

The 'lower end' sounds over the top sound that often overwhelms the mids!!
Rating it 3 stars, based on my unit with major glitch and with the low end sound being less then high end like.

    Great System!

    • Written by from voorhees

This sound system is amazing!! I was able to set it up in about 10 minutes total. The only reason it took 10 minutes was that I went to B&W's website under support for the Zeppelin Air and downloaded the firmware upgrade before I even set it up. I read the previous reviews and figured this would solve most, if not all of them. I then loaded the firmware into the Zeppelin Air following the instructions very close. I then set up the Zeppelin on my Mac. I had no problems at all and have not had any issues with the Airplay function at all. Definitely worth the money! I hope this helps everyone!

    Good Buy

    • Written by from NEW YORK

Sound quality for such a small loud speaker system is really great. A set of two I think would be even better. The Bass on one unit however does not really perform all that well at high volume ranges, though it does not crack at high volumes, a noticeable decrease in bass sound quality is most definitely noted. So if you have a playlist like I do that has music with some bounce, you might be a bit disappointed when cranking it up. As a side note I would like to see B&W provide the option for an external Sub Woofer that will pair with my Zeppelin Air to add an increased dimension, and reach my desired musical listing satisfaction. Good Purchase

Couldn't use it out of the box

    • Written by from New York

So I purchased this because I know it's the best of the best - and it sounds great in the Apple Store. However, I lugged it home only to find out that it would not produce any sound. I was baffled. I called B&W support and they told me I'm one of the rare instances where the voltage in my house is just above 120V and the unit will not operate. So, I had to spend another $50 on a voltage regulator to plug it into. A little annoyed.

    Amazing Sound and Looks Fantastic

    • Written by from Richmond Hill

Just picked this up today. The product itself has some good weight and looks gorgeous alone on a shelf. AirPlay setup can be very easy, B&W have created an app which can be found in the app store and all the setup can be done from your iDevice took no more than 10 minutes.
When your device is sitting on the dock the sound is crystal clear with awesome bass.
AirPlay takes 2-3 seconds to start and its quality is on par with when its connected.
I have experienced one outage where the music cut out, but it came back in 2 seconds.
Really can't emphasize how amazing it sounds.

    How crisp is your music

    • Written by from Plano

I was new to B & W when I bought my original Zeppelin, I enjoyed every track on this dolphin nose speakers. Extremely satisfied with the product. I have to say, I had few docking issues on my original zeppelin. But, no issues the way it plays.

I couldn't wait to upgrade to Zeppelin Air, Wireless is awesome. Music is soo crisp and clear. This upgrade is a worth every penny, Thanks to holding on the price.

    Use iOS route!

    • Written by from WARRINGTON

Had it delivered yesterday. By the end of the day yesterday wanted to throw it out of the window. Followed set up advice to the letter and got nowhere. Had to do complete restore this morning and tried again. No luck. Factory restor again - the finally decided to use iPhone iOS route to set up. Worked first time and now listening to the satisfying deep, crisp boom of my tunes. Worth the trouble I think.
    Go for it!

Looks nice but continues to drop the network

    • Written by from Calgary

I bought this unit for Black Friday and had it set up all week. Not once in the whole time did AirPlay work for a whole song.

I first set it up with the default Firmware and followed the instructions. I had my network hidden and used WPA2 Wireless Security. The B&W would could not find my network. I un hid my network and the B&W finally found it. Once the Zepplin was all set up I tried using it via Airplay. The music would play for about 5 seconds and then the Airplay would drop and I would have to restart the Zepplin to find it again on Airplay. I tried with my MBP, iPhone 4S and iPad2 all with the same results. So, I updated the Firmware to 1.3.3. With the update I could 'almost' make it through a song before it was dropped. I repeated this several times in several rooms across my house. No Joy.

The sound is great when it is playing and it looks great but alas I bought it for the iPlay functionality not the looks. I am returning this unit as completely unhappy with it.

Note: I currently stream my music to Living Room via Airplay and AppleTV and office using Airport Extreme and an Amp. With excellent results. I wanted a portable unit to move to other rooms and the deck.

I will keep looking for a decent unit.

    Great build

    • Written by from Port Coquitlam

I just bought this from apple store Dec 5 2011. The cabinet and look is perfect for a small room. I use it for airplay through my iphone + use it as tv speakers for a small room via Optical mini cable. I wanted to use it for Airplay of my PC iTunes but there are problems with airplay through firewall that I cannot seem to figure out - This is a big drawback because i don't put all my music onto my iphone and want access to those songs.
The sound is decent and room filling for a small bedroom or small office. Don't expect pinpoint soundstage because stereo separation is limited. Clarity of treble is good.
I like the options for connections - optical, airplay, ipod dock. There was ethernet but I wasn't able to get that to work as "airplay".
The biggest CON is the setup. Although listed by some as easy, there are too many issues. I found support was good but only if you can speak to someone...they try to get everyone to use their website and email support - not happy with that after I spent 1 long night fiddling with airplay. The problem turned out to be IE 9 has a bug when submitting to the device during setup. Wish they listed that problem on their site. It was easily solved by using Chrome browser instead.

    Top notch all the way.

    • Written by from Bethlehem

I plugged in the Ethernet, my router assigned an IP, and I did zero config. Works great.

AirPlay is working flawlessly. I streamed audio from Real Race HD, sounded like I was at Indy.

Listened to The Beatles, Led Zepplin, MIchael Jackson, Sting and the Police... Simply amazing reproduction.

I ran optical audio out from my TV to the 3.5mm optical aux in on the ZA, watching the Flyers and can hear every hit, crashing into the boards, AND the puck when it hits the pipes. Beautiful sound.

I bought this not knowing if I would like it. But once I installed it, it was the best thing ever. I can play my songs using my iphone, ipad and ipod over wifi and control the volume on it too! The sound is great! I would surely recommend this!

    fantastic sound quality

    • Written by from Lawrenceville

I bought this product because i love to play music and do other things with my Iphone at the same time. I was very excited to hear about AirPlay and try it. I read the reviews and all the people that said they had many problems seting it up. My advise for these items is to READ THE Manuals before you touch anything. The set up took almost no time at all. The quality of the sound from the system is fantastic. Its as good as the Bose system I use in the same room. I also love the stylish look of the system. The only down side that i have found is that the remote controll does not work very well with the Ipod on my phone when the phone is not docked to the system the volume does not increase smoothly and sometimes goes down instead of up. This only happens with Ipod and not other music applications like Pandora. I would highly recomend this system to amyone that loves great sound, the airplay ability ( that's the main reason why i got this speaker) and stylish looks.

Nice alterative to a sound bar

    • Written by from Dallas

I've enjoyed high quality audio for a while in both multii-channel and stereo formats. I like the everything about a multi-channel setup except for the fact that it begins to take over the room it is setup in. I became tired of the cables, stands, subwoofer, can't put this furniture here, etc...etc..
I decided to move to a simple, one piece solution, and the Zeppelin Air fit the bill. After looking into some different sound bar options I decided that I didn't care for something that pretends to produce multi-channel audio. I just wanted something that sounded nice and clear, but still could produce clean bass without a separate subwoofer. Well the Zeppelin Air also does that, and it looks fantastic as well. The Zeppelin has just the right inputs for my needs, I use the USB for my computer and the optical input for my Xbox 360. I'm happy and now my living room is much more comfortable to be in.

    Simply excellent!

    • Written by from Burien

I have had it for a couple of days. Initially when I set it up, I was quite disappointed with the quality of the sound. I started playing with positioning of the speaker; I tried elevating it, turning it, putting it a little distance from a wall, then back...and yes I found the sweet spot. As with any speaker, positioning of one makes a big difference.

I have been waiting for the "air" to come out for a couple of reasons; one - new set of speakers, each supported by an individual amp (which makes a huge difference when you crank it up, creating almost no distortion), two - capability of listening to my music from an iPhone without docking - which is very handy when you change stations that run off of apps, otherwise you would have to get up to do so.

Overall, this is an excellent speaker set. I am considering getting another one for a my bedroom after I test it for a few weeks.

    Great Product

One of the best speakers I have ever had. In addition to all of its positive feedbacks, I wanted to add that it has some minor issues such as WI-FI. It is pretty hard to set your device up in order to use it wirelessly.
