Four replacements and still no airplay

    • Written by from London

Beautiful product but frustrating beyond belief. After 2 complete non-starters the latest two play a docked iPhone but refuse to entertain the idea of wireless connectivity. This is not helped by 3 differing sets of instructions available from B&W's own website, all offering conflicting advice. After one failed setup the product will not even reset so no obvious means of resolution. Product will be being returned (again) to await a substantial update.

    Absolutely Incredible Speakers!

    • Written by from Thornhill

With the B&W Zeppelin Air Speakers I don't even know where to begin!
I am a complete audiophile and was ecstatic to receive my package from Apple today that contained my brand new B&W Zeppelin Air Speakers! I opened the box and unwrapped one of the most aesthetically awesome speakers I have ever seen. I quickly and simply set up AirPlay on it and it took all of 5 minutes before I was listening to a rich and beautiful sound coming from this masterpiece. I tried many genres of music with this today and I was thoroughly impressed with the sound quality! The speakers sound amazing and I strongly recommend buying these... worth every penny! I am very impressed with the B&W Zeppelin Air and Bowers & Wilkins did an incredible job! Thanks for the awesome speakers!

I was looking for this product everywhere from diamond stores to B&W website, and i could not find this anywhere, and i was told that the shipment will be delayed due to some issues with production. Finally I got my hand on this from the APPLE store which said 3-5 weeks for delivery, but the delivery was lightning fast, in 2 days approx. I was so thrilled after reading so many reviews and waiting nearly 3 months for this release, and it is worth the wait, every moment of it. Unpacking was fun and setup of lightning fast, being a computer geek myself, i hardly had any issues. I downloaded the updated firmware and then i was good to go.

Once i Plug Air in, and set it up on your wireless network, you’ll see “Zeppelin_Air” appear in iTunes as an AirPlay speaker, accessible by simply clicking or tapping on its name. I am using this system for my bedroom as I already have Bose V20 System for my living room, which also sound great. You cannot compare the 5.1 with 2.1 systems, but zepplin lives up to the much hype created by this system. Accessing Zepplin from my living room over the n/w is no problem for me, but you may notice slight drop in audio quality while playing using airplay, obviously due to o/p quality using airplay. overtime quality may increase as future research/updates from apple.

Also the New amplifiers move this Zeppelin from sharing three amplification units to instead offering one for each driver, adding two extra 25W drivers for the tweeters and 50W midrange and bass amps. makes this simply amazing. It uses better speaker drivers, cleaner amplifiers, and arguably superior tuning. Zeppelin Air arguable is museum-quality design, and it can produce some really beautiful music—always smooth, generally quite detailed, and powerful. It is not comparable to bose sound docks, where the sound detail is not detailed. All in all this is a superb buy.

B&W needs to update the firmware!

    • Written by from New York

The sound is astonishingly good. This is a relatively small product that feels like a huge sound system. The design is gorgeous, sleek but solid (the black back looks so much better than the previous chrome one.) However, the wireless setup was working fine until I updated the firmware. After that it became extremely frustrating to open the setup webpage, many times it would just not open for more than 30 minutes. And even after setting it up all correctly with my home network, the Zeppelin often doesn't show up on my iTunes. I really hope they can fix this issues with a firmware update because this product has the potential to be my ideal sound system.

    Best docking station to date

    • Written by from Mahopac

Just received my B&W Zeppelin Air and all I can is this thing sounds great for its size! Setup was easy. Was up and running in minutes even with a firmware update. Streaming tunes wirelessly from both Mac and PC without any issues or dropouts at all. I am very particular when it comes to audio and the Zeppelin delivers with sparkling highs, clear midrange and tight low end. Certainly fills up my medium sized room with plenty of music even at moderate volume levels. The Zeppelin Air is a pleasure to listen to and certainly delivers. I have a full blown Linn home theater system so I know HiFi sound when I hear it. It looks great and charges my iPod and iPhone to boot! Highly recommended as a idevice dock or as a secondary audio system.

B&W Greatness, but has some low freq sonic issues.

    • Written by from Lynbrook

The sound overall is VERY impressive, and at times with the right recordings & apple lossless format are AMAZING! The D/A Converter and separate amps for each driver may account in part for the superior over the original Zeppelin.

The Sub creates to much bass of which can become muddy at times.
It may be the cross-over placing too much music on 50 Watt Sub (away from the mids) or a DSP Bass issue.
The 'Sub' takes on more of the music then it can playback cleanly.
With certain musical passages this 'thudsy' like sound is not at all apparent.
(certain electronic space music or certain rock songs with vocals)

Reading that people are lowering the bass eq or raising the treble on their ipod is a mistake cause NO Eq should be used with the Zeppelin Air! (needs to be off)
(this according to B&W, due to its own complex internal DSP)

Listening to the Rolling Stones "lady Jane" on the Zeppelin Air was s t u n n i n g.

The 'lower end' sounds over the top sound that often overwhelms the mids!!
Rating it 3 stars, based on my unit with major glitch and with the low end sound being less then high end like.

I picked it up at the Apple store yesterday they have limited units on stock!
Install was easy - thanks to "JS" for the advice to first update the FW it was realy helpfull without any problems. Sound and Bass is better than the most Hometheatres specialy in this price range.
I´m so happy that i spent this amount of money for the Zeppelin Air. After you have it running at home you feel its worth every penny!

    Nice Sound, worth every penny

    • Written by from Houston

I just received my Zeppelin and being a visitor to USA, I asked my friend to purchase it for me so that I can bring back home.
Well, stunning and warm sound. Amazing room music filling capability, you almost do not need to sit directly in front of the speaker to hear the best sound. I am enjoying every moment of it in my hotel room (It going to be challenging to re-package it back!!)
I would recommend set the bass to +1 (max) to get the best 3D sound.
Best for room listening. Good bass and treble clarity.
I hope B+W fix the issue with earlier model pre-mature product failure! This is going to be my nice piece of equipment that I will use often!
Strongly recommend. It put Bose and other to shame.

Extremely hard to connect to the wifi network

    • Written by from Calgary

Extremely difficult to connect it to the wifi network. Actually, I haven't been able to properly connect it yet. It connects for 4-5 minutes afterward disconnects. I've expected way more from a company like b&w. A pair of speakers hooked to an airport might be a better option.

Nice alterative to a sound bar

    • Written by from Dallas

I've enjoyed high quality audio for a while in both multii-channel and stereo formats. I like the everything about a multi-channel setup except for the fact that it begins to take over the room it is setup in. I became tired of the cables, stands, subwoofer, can't put this furniture here, etc...etc..
I decided to move to a simple, one piece solution, and the Zeppelin Air fit the bill. After looking into some different sound bar options I decided that I didn't care for something that pretends to produce multi-channel audio. I just wanted something that sounded nice and clear, but still could produce clean bass without a separate subwoofer. Well the Zeppelin Air also does that, and it looks fantastic as well. The Zeppelin has just the right inputs for my needs, I use the USB for my computer and the optical input for my Xbox 360. I'm happy and now my living room is much more comfortable to be in.

Airplay works flawlessly....sound better than direct connect....

    • Written by from NORTHPORT

First off, the apple retail stores, now have this item in stock for sale. I ran down to replace my original zeppelin....When I got home ..I immediately hooked my iphone directly to the unit...the sound was about on par with the original...the bass was definitely a little overpowering...so I went to equilizer and turned treble boost on...and I liked the sound better.....but the verdict was still a hold out for me...so I went..the setup requires you to connect the ethernet cable directly to your computer, mac or windows....I did and went thru the set up process..important you follow the setup to the tee....wait for the blinking lights to stop and turn solid purple ect.....I also recommend you download remote app from app store...it free and will see your whole library.....of songs...ok now, I dont know if its my imagine...but the sound from airplay actually sounds better and fuller than the direct connection....amazing quality from these speakers....you can even control the volume from your iphone ipad or ipod touch....the sound is incredible..that with airplay working wirelessly...Bowers and Wilkins have a home run product on their hands..highly recommended..im so glad I sold my old unit to upgrade to this.

    awesome sound, terrible set up!

    • Written by from colorado springs

Looks great, sounds great. Followed instructions very carefully and would not connect when I attempted to set it up with my macbook pro using the ethernet cable. After 4 attempts (and much frustration) tried to set it up with the ipad instructions. Worked like a charm first time with the ipad!!! You must go to the B & W website to get the iphone/ipad set up instructions.

    Simply excellent!

    • Written by from Burien

I have had it for a couple of days. Initially when I set it up, I was quite disappointed with the quality of the sound. I started playing with positioning of the speaker; I tried elevating it, turning it, putting it a little distance from a wall, then back...and yes I found the sweet spot. As with any speaker, positioning of one makes a big difference.

I have been waiting for the "air" to come out for a couple of reasons; one - new set of speakers, each supported by an individual amp (which makes a huge difference when you crank it up, creating almost no distortion), two - capability of listening to my music from an iPhone without docking - which is very handy when you change stations that run off of apps, otherwise you would have to get up to do so.

Overall, this is an excellent speaker set. I am considering getting another one for a my bedroom after I test it for a few weeks.

    Great System!

    • Written by from voorhees

This sound system is amazing!! I was able to set it up in about 10 minutes total. The only reason it took 10 minutes was that I went to B&W's website under support for the Zeppelin Air and downloaded the firmware upgrade before I even set it up. I read the previous reviews and figured this would solve most, if not all of them. I then loaded the firmware into the Zeppelin Air following the instructions very close. I then set up the Zeppelin on my Mac. I had no problems at all and have not had any issues with the Airplay function at all. Definitely worth the money! I hope this helps everyone!

    Good Buy

    • Written by from NEW YORK

Sound quality for such a small loud speaker system is really great. A set of two I think would be even better. The Bass on one unit however does not really perform all that well at high volume ranges, though it does not crack at high volumes, a noticeable decrease in bass sound quality is most definitely noted. So if you have a playlist like I do that has music with some bounce, you might be a bit disappointed when cranking it up. As a side note I would like to see B&W provide the option for an external Sub Woofer that will pair with my Zeppelin Air to add an increased dimension, and reach my desired musical listing satisfaction. Good Purchase

    B&W Zeppelin air

    • Written by from Tulsa

The online reviews of this don't do it justice. The sound is truly amazing for an ipod/iphone dock and I could honestly give it a nod over a decent home stereo as it's simply that good. The only reason I can't go 5 stars is the occasional drop out of the air play. It's possible it's my home network, but I was honestly hoping it would be a little stronger than what it is. Overall though, the occasional drop out was far outweighed by the sound.
I didn't find airplay set up too hard, just connected it to my imac via the supplied ethernet cable and followed the diagrams that were provided. Pretty sure I was up and running in about 5 mins. B&W have done it again with this one and I'm very happy to have it!

    Great product, difficuly wireless setup

    • Written by from Franklin

Packaging is beautiful. And the hardware design is stunning. Very solid and it looks great in any room. Obviously, it is very easy to get going. Plug it in the wall, hook up an iPod, and you’re off.

HOWEVER, getting it on the network was a problem. Followed the instructions to a T. I kept ending up with a red flashing light. I reset, reset, reset to no avail. I started getting quite frustrated. Finally, I just began turning it on and off and it eventually showed up in iTunes. No idea how or why and I can’t recall the steps so it can be reproduced. Just glad I got it going. Works fine now from my iPhone and MacBook Pro.

Initial feeling is that the sound is great but needs some breaking in to get to max enjoyment.
