super sound until it fries itself

    • Written by from Peachland

i ran the Z2 flawlessly thru my iPad mini and iPhone 5s for three weeks then it shut down. After 5 hours trying to reconnect I have given up. I rebooted 20 times, deleted and re downloaded the B&W app 20 times, used the reset button 25 times ( it is now stuck). I even placed right beside my router in case the signal was weak but no help. I have super fast wireless. It keeps blinking purple indicating I must reset. I am taking it back. Too bad, it has amazing sound

    Total Disappointment

    • Written by from Draper

Just like most other reviews on here I am exceptionally disappointed with the lack of quality of this unit. After paying top dollar I would expect this to function flawlessly, but that is not the case. Not is it only difficult to setup and configure, it looses connectivity every few songs requiring the unit to be turned off and then back on. It got to the point that I only used it a few times a year. Now after only 3 years of owning it, it has stopped working completely. I was informed by the B&W people that for a mere $150.00 i can have the software updated and the unit repaired. NOT WORTH IT...DO NOT BUY IT!

    Loses Connection Frequently

    • Written by from Washington

For the brand and price you'd expect these to work like a dream. The sound quality is awesome BUT it will drop connection every few songs and is hard to reconnect. SO FRUSTRATING! Even though the sound is amazing, I would NOT recommend these.

Most ridiculous setup & Flashing Red Light

    • Written by from Canyon Country

I love Bowers & Wilkins. Their products are most certainly high-end, especially in design and quality. However, they lack greatly in functionality and ease of use. The Zeppelin air are a pain to setup, and quite ridiculous.

Worst of all is the flashing red light error, which essentially means your speakers are done for. I just recently got my speakers replaced because of this issue and attained a brand new model! After a 2 hour setup, the problem once again was apparent. It seems now that they need to just recall the speakers. I emailed the BW support team, they insisted I use the Zeppelin Air Recovery Utility. While that did fix the issue, it only lasted for 5 minutes before cutouts and the flashing red light reappeared.

For a product of high price point, I would expect more in quality of functionality and also better customer support in using the manufacturer warranty. DO NOT BUY.

    Zeppelin Air Review.

    • Written by from New Milton

Like many reviews before this, my Zeppelin was an expensive failure.
Clearly, B&W have over extended its abilities in producing the 'Air'.
Quite an appropriate name as Air is all you'll get.
Terrible technology, Pathetic App and a very dodgy connection.
Buy this rubbish at your peril....
On the plus side, it looks good.

    Terrible firmware. Great sound.

    • Written by from Edmonton

I have had mine for over three years, and it has never worked properly. I'm currently using the latest airport extreme, and the device falls of the network every few songs. For the price one would think that it should work like a dream.

    Awful, awful connectivity issue

    • Written by from New York

I've had the Zeppelin Air for over a year. I have it sitting on top of a bookcase where it's out of the way, and pretty much out of sight. It sounds good, but I cannot tell you how many times I have had to get a ladder to take the Zeppelin down and reboot the system because it loses connection constantly. It got to the point where I moved the speaker next to my computer so I more easily hook up the cables and do another reboot.

It lost connectivity last week, and I haven't rebooted. I'm sick of having to fix the problem. For what I paid for this, I'm kicking myself.

Oh my God. What a nightmare!

    • Written by from CAMBRIDGE

Absolutely concur with other reviews - the sound is good but so, so unreliable on Airplay. If I could afford to I would have thrown this out of the window by now; the frustration of setting it up and then resetting it up is unbelievable. I work in IT support. I am more than capable of setting up my wifi and Airplay properly. Honestly I can only put the unreliability down to the unit itself. Do NOT buy this. I really regret spending so much money on a paperweight.

    A nightmare to set up

    • Written by from Enskededalen

Probably impossible since I have tried everything (with no help from AplleCare - a helpful support from the retailer though - but the bottom line is: It will not connect even after I have tried everything, listening to all advice, restarting it, restarting Time Capsule, upgrading the firmware etc etc. It is simply impossible. I have never seen a product at that price with such bad performance ( except for the sound I could hear in the shop) But I now know that it will not perform in a home. So it is going back to where it came from

Quality? well, you live and learn!

    • Written by from Madrid

I thought that this make would have been of better quality, well, you live and learn!
Looks and sound are great (when it is working). A little on the pricey side when you have to dish out on a not so cheap technical service fee every two years once the guarantee has run out. The ipod dock doesn´t seem as stable as I had hoped, especially when I hardly touch it.
When I first bought the product there weren´t as many other options out there for quality sound systems... now there are. So I´ll be looking into other products that will cost the same as the reparation fees I´ve been having to pay.

    Rubbish and Frustrating.

    • Written by from Christchurch

Zeppelin and Airplay dont work.Just use as an docking station now as exhausted many hours of my life with airplay and itunes over and over again.Resetting, resetting.
An expensive docking station at $1000 bought from Powerstore last year. Wasnt aware of this fault until too late. Wish we had never wasted so much money. It is very stressful. At this moment right now .. no airplay which means again I will have to start from scratch and reset everthing. I tunes never show the airplay icon only when it feels like it. Just hit and miss.Technology gone wrong. bring back the oldfashed swith it on and it will work. !!! hahah

Wasted 4 hours of my life

    • Written by from Arlington

I love B&W speakers. I have the free standing 804's and sold a pair of larger 803's a few years ago. The Zeppelin Air sounds awesome in the Apple store and in a high end audio store that also sells McIntosh amps. Unfortunately in real life this air play unit is a pain to set up and not worth it. It's going back to the Apple store tomorrow.

Don't waste your money with terrible wireless performance

    • Written by from Pasadena

After owning this device for almost 2 years my experience with Zeppelin Air is it great IF it works but for most of the time it just doesn’t.

Wireless airplay works sporadically at best with constant pauses & complete failures to stream. The lovely device has now decided to keep resetting its network name every time it sleeps on top of all they other annoyances. Don’t waste your money on this device if you plan to use on a wireless network you will be very disappointed. After every firmware release I get excited in the hope that it will finally work but it never does.

I say as a very loyal fan to the BW brand with 600 series speakers for my home theater setup along with M1 computer speakers, P5 & C5 headphones.

Worst of all is B&W support who take days to get back to you with very generic answers which never solve the problem. B&W should stick to just making speakers without embedded amplifiers !

    Too Bad...

    • Written by from New York

When it works, it sounds great... Problem is it rarely works correctly. Even the dock doesn't always recognize my iPhone. The worst is listening to music wirelessly that cuts in and out. It's very frustrating, and for the price they should have perfected it. Bowers and Wilkins makes great speakers, but they didn't get this one right, and I'm bitter that I'm one of the early purchasers that wasted so much money.

    iPad helps

Connection via PC doesn't work. Setting it up via the Safari Browser on my iPad worked well. Nevertheless for no obvious reason the Zeppelin loses the connection to the network. Than I have to reset it and reconfigure it.

Way to hard to set up. Cuts in and out.

    • Written by from Arlington

The set up process is quite complicated and if you make any error you have to reset. The instructions require you to have a Mac with an ethernet port ( Need an adapter if you have a Macbook Air). Once I got it hooked up and configured it cut in and out all the time. My iPhone 4s would not play when connected to the dock. I have read elsewhere that many people have connection issues and that there is some type of bug with the 4s. I would beware.

I purchased a Zeppelin Air two weeks ago and I was totally embarresd.

When you set it up, it must stay connected to your network, but it didn't. I always got disconnected. I went online to see what the problem is and I noticed so many people have the same problem.

Bowers & Wilkins told me to update the firware. When I did it didn't help at all.

Finally I returned this thingie to apple store and got rid of it!

Will Not Power Up after Using WiFi

    • Written by from KAMLOOPS

Sounds great BUT the Zeppelin does not stay connected to Air Play/WiFi - then it DOES NOT even power up. The WiFi signal is intermittent at times, but for added frustration, the Air Play lasts the day you set it up, but after that the Zeppelin goes to sleep and you cannot get the power to turn back on - not manually or the by hitting the reset button at the back. You have to re-program the whole system - so basically this is just a docking system. We did as much research on this product as possible, we were looking forward to adding it to the home sound system, but this is not what is advertised - very disappointed.

Long story short, sound great, but Airplay is so broken that if the unit goes to sleep you'll have to reset the device and reinstall all the airplay setting.

This happens every stinking day, and the manufacturer is so dishonest they refuse to even acknowledge the problem.

    I want my money back
