Excellent Product BUT Does NOT Work with Newer TB Displays

    • Written by from Denver

I was just about to purchase this adapter for my older DVI MacBookPro to connect to my new Thunderbolt 27" iMac (to use it as a larger display for the laptop) but just discovered and CONFIRMED via Altona Tech Support that THIS version of the adapter will NOT work with newest Thunderbold (TB) displays or TB iMacs because...TB is only BACKWARD compatible to DisplayPort and NOT vice versa - i.e., the TB port-out on a newer Mac computer WILL drive an older DisplayPort display, however, the DisplayPort on a previous, "older" Mac will NOT drive the newer TB display OR TB-equipped iMac display ("Mid-2011"). A newer Altona adapter for the latter situation (older to newer, or DVI-to-TB displays) will apparently be available by end of year. Good to know on all accounts and a big thanks to EH from Kungsangen for saving me the time, money and headache.

Does not work with Mid 2011 iMac

    • Written by from Kungsangen

Seems like the Mid 2011 iMac only supports target display mode via Thunderbolt cables, and the source has to be Thunderbolt too, which means this won't work. I found out the hard way.. Bye bye $199..

It works well for others though, just wanted to give a warning to those with the same computer.

Atlona AT-DP400 with Macbook Pro 2.2hz - Excellent except with Aperture

    • Written by from RUEIL MALMAISON

I bought it six months ago and it works very well both as main monitor or second monitor. The only exception is with Aperture where I can't use the full screen, diaporama and it even reboot the computer sometime when I work on a picture. Big disappointment for me as it was the main reason of the purchase

    It truly is the missing-link!!!

I had purchased a 12 core Mac with an Nvidia quadro 4000 and a fancy high end monitor with a display port for my second monitor and have my 24" led cinema display as my primary. I felt like I thought of everything, until I hooked it all up and realized I only had one display port and one dvi port on the card. No way to hook up the cinema display.
I then came across the AT-DP400 by chance of a google search. And it solved all of my issues. One key thing their tech support helped me figure out is that the device needs to be connected to the cable attached to the monitor. I had initially bought a mini display port extender that was eight feet long to connect to the computer that was on the floor.
This is not a good Idea because it's to long of a path for the output of the device. Tech support told me to get a dvi extender cable and put that between the card and the device, and to hook the device's USB power cable to one of the USB ports on the back of the cinema display. And it's perfect.

    Wonderful adapter!

    • Written by from URBANA

I've had one of these for about 6 months and it's performed flawlessly! It enabled me to connect an older DVI-based MacPro tower to a new 27" LED screen. Without this adapter, I would have been up a creek without a paddle when my old Cinema display bit the dust. Recommend it very highly!!

ATLONA AT-DP400 WITH APPLE 27" LED CINEMA DISPLAY

    • Written by from Sherman Oaks

I've been using the Atlona AT-DP400 Dual Link DVI to Mini Display Port Converter with my new Apple 27" LED Cinema Display and an older MacBook Pro (4,1) for many months now. It has been a great match and I'm getting the full resolution of the display (2560 x 1440) which of course was the big issue for me. I have my laptop closed and tucked under the display with a wireless Apple keyboard. It's a great setup because the display supplies the power to the laptop and also plugs right into the DP400 which sits behind it. Perfect setup given that Apple made this beautiful display without the older DVI plug. Fabulous clarity and color! Thank you Atlona Technologies!

I have 2 of them actually.
I am using one to connect a DVI MacPro to a 27" Apple Led Display and the other one
to connect a PC to my 27" iMac.
They Work flawlessly with no problems...
