    Not bad...

If you are considering this product, the most important thing to do (as with any product, I suppose) is to ignore the manufacturer's overblown hyperbole. This is a very small speaker, so there is no "earth-shaking bass," and not a lot of "room-filling sound." For a wireless speaker that's compact and portable enough to carry anywhere, though, the sound is better than you might expect. As long as you are expecting the sound of a compact portable speaker. It does have a driver inside that makes the unit vibrate with the low notes, but there simply isn't enough speaker area to move enough air to create deep bass notes that you can hear (louder volumes do provide more fidelity than quieter ones). There is one, serious, major complaint that is almost a deal-breaker: start-up, Bluetooth pairing, and shutdown are accompanied by tone and voice prompts that are OBNOXIOUSLY LOUD. If you need to turn this thing on or off in a quiet place, where you also need to be quiet, forget about it. Even covering the speakers won't shut it up. Overall, it's a pretty good product, but whether it's worth two hundred bucks will depend entirely upon how much money you have to toss around.

    An object of desire

While there are thousands of gadgets, very few have that special property of exciting the senses. This is one of them. This tiny, yet weighty package, brings a new functionality to iPhones, iPods and iPads. It provides excellent sound (relative to its small size), convenience in its portability and wireless connectivity, and a gorgeous ID. I found I carried it with me around the home to use as a crisp speakerphone. At other times I streamed radio and played my music. I'd rank it 5 stars if it were $50 less. At $200 it's pushing the value. And while the sound can't compare with a bookshelf speaker at a similar cost, it's better than any other at 3 or 4 times the volume.

LOVE THIS!!! HOTTEST SPEAKER TO BE RELEASED!!!

This small rectangular box makes the most incredible music! Not only that, it synced so quickly that I was shocked! Music began playing and everyone was fighting over MY speaker! It speaks to tell you when the battery is low, it connects and charges quickly, THIS IS THE HOTTEST SPEAKER EVER, and my sons were fighting thinking they could have it.
I take it to work and it works as a speakerphone which is so much nicer then the one on my ear, the sound quality is so amazing, it's everything and more than I thought it would be.
The store had two, two when I bought one, and I think you will have to order online as the person after me who saw it, then bought the last one and it will be the hottest speaker around for a VERY LONG time!
Thank you Jawbone! I'm jammin, working and playing with this wonderful box!

Great design, big price, horrible sound

I was delighed when I got the jambox out of the box and set it up: it's a beautiful design. I was also happy with the ease of set-up; anyone could do it. But then I turned on the music. I couldn't believe how horrible the sound was. It was so bad I thought I had it set up wrong and tried again. Same story. The sound is far worse than you would expect for a $20 speaker from Radio Shack. For $200 I expected a lot more.

Luckily I bought it at my local Apple store, so I returned it easily, quickly, and with no questions asked.

I travel a lot and was looking for a sound set-up that was compact, lightweight, and, obviously, with decent sound.
I am quite impressed! Sound was better than I expected. It's easy to use and like how it looks. I picked up a small 'cosmetics' zip bag (like a pencil case) to store it along with the plug, cable, etc.
    I would definitely recommend it.

Although I own and have owned the bigger (version of this product) happily for the last 6 months, I can say that it is and enjoyable product.
Give it a couple of minutes to connect via bluetooth for best results. The sound is phenomenal, powerful, full, rich etc. Do not hesitate on this product. But again, I'm reviewing and recommending the larger jambox---which has the same look entirely.

    Good and bad designs.

    Pros
    --------
Battery life lasts for hours, of course it depends on the volume setting and type of sound being played.
    Compact.
Reliable Bluetooth, rare among Bluetooth devices. It connects and stays connects while battery is strong enough.
    Simple battery indicator.
Sound is descent. Not as tiny as I had expected. Not overly bassy.

    Cons
    -------
I use it to watch movies on my iPhone/iPad.
Unfortunately, much of the movies digitized on on the Internet, especially Netflix has not been done correctly. Meaning, some movies are fine, but most have audio problems. The sound is barely audible on a lot of movies, especially before digital audio recordings was popular.
Jambox lacks a hardware algorithm called sound normalization, which could solve this problem. It's cheap, uses little power and highhly effective. Small speakers could all use this.

Sound accuracy could be better. Especially in the higher frequency and voice range, which should be within the realm of possibility for speakers this size.

Rape/hiphop is not the cup of tea for many listeners so for me at least base is not important.

Speakerphone mic could be a whole lot better and have noise cancelation function for a device of this size especially.

Hisss from the speakers. Reminds me of the old analog days. Not a goood thing.

The sharp 90 degree corners will definately show wear and tear very quickly as well as be weak poonts if ever dropped.

    Recommended uses.
    Listening to music in cars.
Use on the bedside, when home theater systems are not welcomed by neighbors.

WOW, if you don't expect bass that is outside the possibility of this compact powerhouse, then it is a 5 star product, if you teach, if you travel and need a quality speaker phone, if you need a quality sound box for 90% of uses.

It updates well, you must read directions though, it is very sophisticated and flexible. Bose has bass but my Bose does not have clear fresh sound that this mini briefcase capable box with great travel case has.

    Portable...yes. Great product...no.

This is surely a cool item. Super-portable, wireless, and good range. Perhaps my expectations were too high, but the high end sound quality is certainly lacking, and the speaker phone is sub-par at best. I've tried the speaker phone a number of times with little success. When sitting 3 feet from the Jambox, all of the callers have said "I can't really hear you very well", and I have ended up switching to the handset. Certainly expected a bit more from Jawbone.

Though the bass from the speakers is somewhat astounding(it will literally move the Jambox), the higher end frequencies sound metallic and distorted....even at moderate volume.

Upside: Bluetooth range is great. Very portable and comes with well designed collapsable case. Easy sync with all of my devices...iPod, iPhone, iPad, and MacBook.

I got this on the Black Friday sale and paid $150 for it. I don't feel cheated perse, but disappointed. There are many speaker systems and headphones out there for the normal $200 price tag that I would invest in before the Jambox. I get the feeling that this is the first generation of a product that will see tremendous improvement in future generations. So I would wait.

Excessed my expectation given by it sizes

Ok, i raely write any review of products that I've bought but I do feel like being fair to this one after reading some bad reviews about this speaker. PLEASE keep in mind this thing is about the size of a small coke from McDonald's. So, do not expect this to give you any good deep bass a 5" subwoofer can pump out. There is no speaker this size can give you any deep bass in a reasonable volume no matter whom make them. Its the law of physics. Given the size of this speaker, I m impress on how good the sound it can produce in a higher than normal volume (from a normal consumer standpoint). The bluetooth range is good with my new ipad. The only complain i have is using it as a speaker phone. The bulid-in mic just not sensitive enough to pick up my voice within a reasonable distance. You have to be close to it for the far end to hear you. So, dont expect this speaker can replace your Polycom conference phone on your meeting desk.

Pretty good but with a few problems.

I like my Jambox overall. It has a pretty good sound overall and works as promised.

However, there are a few issues. One is that updating the software via the website is too difficult. It's odd to install software that needs to be open and then visit a website -- why not just have the software itself update the firmware?

A bigger issue is that pairing isn't as easy as it should be. When I bought this I thought it used AirPlay -- it does not -- only bluetooth (or a direct wire). The bluetooth drops quite frequently -- and then I have to do a complete bluetooth / power cycle. It's quite annoying to deal with this as often as it happens.

Also, the system sounds are a bit over the top. At first I thought it was kind of fun, but now I just think they are way too loud.

I'm still pretty happy with my purchase, but there are quite a few improvements they could make.

    When it works, it's Awesome!

great sound and the distance is good. The battery life works for 6-8hrs, and since I work outside allday, I just put it on the ground on the worksite and leave it alone.

The down side is it gets an annoying buzz at times, drops connections and fails to link up. Like traffic, my worry for the day is what kind of mood my speaker will be in. so far, it is 50/50. Worth the price if it worked all of the time. but the cost and anxiety of it's performance left me jilted.

    Disappointing

In theory, this little device is all that. However, in reality it leaves much to be desired. I will start by stating that I didn't expect these little speakers to compare to a full sound system. I did expect more than what they delivered. The Bose Wave radio comes to mind when I think of big sound coming from a small unit. It CAN be done. Just not with this product. On all my devices. especially the iPad and Macbook, I preferred the built in speaker sound quality to the Jambox. At full volume (which is necessary to get any kind of volume out of it), I found all types of music I played to have distortion, almost as if playing through blown speakers and it still wasn't loud enough to listen to in anything but the quietest room.

Pros: Connected to iPhone, iPod, iPad, and Macbook Air seamlessly via bluetooth. Elegant and sturdy construction. Fashionable colors.
Cons: Faint and distorted sound. Too expensive for less than adequate performance.

    Mediocre volume, poor bluetooth reception.

For the price, it's certainly disappointing. My iPhone 4 bluetooth connection is stable, but the volume won't fill even a small room. From a Macbook Pro (Late 2008), the static, tiny gaps in sound, and pops make it of unacceptable quality. See their own forums and you'll see lots of complaints. I returned mine.

    Absurd

Despite the fact that you need a construction kit to get the packaging open, they make Bose sound systems look and sound like a joke. Seamless and easy set-up. Love the wireless capabilities; it's just 2, 3 less cords and cables I have to worry about getting tangled up behind my laptop! The software Jawbone gives you to stay up to date is easy to download and use. They're super compact, so don't expect a home-theater sized speaker, but for its size it delivers ridiculously high quality sound and bass. Still I never would have expected sound like this from speakers this small. Well worth the price. Ignore the users that are critical, they don't know what they're doing when they set up theirs and they don't know how to use the software.

    fuzzy sound.

if your sound is fuzzy, it's connecting 'mono' not stereo. click disconnect when prompted and it will ask again if you wan to connect in stereo. stereo sound amazing, mono sounds like complete garbage.

min will not charge though, i just got it yesterday, guess I'll go back tomorrow and trade it in, wish me luck.
