Great sound gear, perfect for desktop listening.

    + rich mid-high notes
    + very clear bass
+ even after owning the set for 7 years the design does not tire
+ incredibly clear and distinctive given the size

    - no remote
    - touch based controls
    - /+ i've heard better B&W sets but not at this pricepoint
    - no optical

I would buy these again without second thoughts, one of best investments made.

    Best computer speakers ever! But...

These are, hands down, the best sounding (and best looking!) desktop computer speakers I've ever used!

The only reason I give them four stars, not five, is that the original version used a USB interface rather than analog audio. USB was about 1000x better. Volume control was handled by software in the computer only, so your keyboard volume keys controlled the volume without the additional complication/confusion of a secondary volume control on the speakers. And the computer knew they were "SoundSticks" connected, which was also cool, software-wise.

I have two of the original versions, which I'll never give up...

Anyhow, great speakers!!! And nobody makes anything better, so get them!!!

    buzz?

The sound is excellent. Really can't complain for a pair of computer speakers + subwoofer. However, i noticed a buzz when cranked to high volume while plugged into the computer. Seems like plugging it into the headphone jack instead of the speaker output fixes the problem. Oh and no buzz at all when plugged into iPhone either.

This was my first purchase for a sound system for my computer and iPod.
Outstanding sound but just after 1week, one of my sound sticks stopped working which was disappointing. But a great sound would recommend.

the style is a bit different for sure. But what killer sound good stuff. a bit bigger then the sticks look about 12" tall - the fish bowl is medium pumpkin size.
These would have been great with my PC . But with my new imac a bit of over kill. But like a spoiled kid I am keeping them. sound is so very clear - ok price

For only 20 watts of power, these speakers sure can blast. The sound is [VERY] crisp! If you purchase these speakers you will not be disappointed. For the sound quality, volume, and beauty, these speakers are well worth your money. I am overly impressed with what these speakers bring. Every time you turn on some music, you will instantly smile with the amazing quality and performance of these speakers. Very satisfied with my purchase..I'd recommend these to anyone.

This was my first Ipod "speaker dock" purchase....yes iam late to the game. I luv it. Stylish & works really great when hooked up to my laptop. I also hooked up to my FlatScreen it sounds great with the volume turned up. I recommend this for everyone. Oh the BASE is incredible!! The tv has a stronger output then the ipod or laptop.....dont get carried away & push the tv volume to the max, u may blow subwoofer....i came pretty %%%% close. Had a party and played this thing all night :-) Will try the Harman kardon boombox nxt.

Great speakers, just not for me.

I am sure many people are going to disagree with me here on what I am about to say. First off, the sound quality of these speakers is incredible, the clarity is amazing. You can turn them up LOUD and they don't have distortion issues as so many other speakers.

But here's the deal: I have a big corner desk, and although I have room for these speakers, I have learned that I prefer a 2.0 system versus a 2.1 system. As I sat at the desk listening to these, although I did hear the Subwoofer and it blended great with the satellites, the sound I primarily heard was the high's from the 2 Satellites. I also own a pair of Creative Labs Gigaworks T 20 Series 2 - which I bought a few months ago, and although I can't crank up the volume of the GW's as high as the SS III, and the bass output is not as strong, again, I just like the mix of sound I get from a 2.0 system, versus a 2.1 with a sub.

I am sure many people think I am crazy, but, these Soundsticks are going back to the store today, and I think I am going to check out some stronger 2.0's, such as the M Audio AV 40's. I will give the Soundsticks 4 out of 5 stars, and can't rate them 5 just because of my 2.0 preference, and I definitely would recommend these, they are just not for me. And 1 other thing, thankfully with the Soundsticks 3, Harman Kardon changed the color of the satellite base stands from that weird light gray to black, because that gray color looked like dried-up spackling compound to me.
