    Excellent!

To those with negative reviews, I say: Really? This system rocks, jams, and just plain kicks it. Under 200 bucks? For real. Bass? True. Treble? Sweet. Listen to strings. Listen to a flute. Listen to a Fender. Vocals? I cried. Truly. And, I'm a poet and a musician. And not an employee of Harman! Hey, I also love the aesthetics of this system. What a cool look. Knock out design, sound, price and I bet long term quality. Buy anything else, pay more than $200 and you'll be very sorry. Sure, wireless systems are terrific. But, again, for the price, the sound, the style - a few harmless cables - I could care less. Thank you Harman Kardon! Thank you Apple, once again, a happy customer!

Superb Performance -- Excellent Price -- Easy Set-Up

I have used a number of different speakers with sub-woofers on my Mac. I am very particular about sound quality and have found this set to be the best performing at this price level. In fact, they outperform many premium speaker systems costing far more. Sound across the audio spectrum is produced faithfully even at high volume. Set up couldn't be simpler: just plug into a USB port. connect to an AC outlet, and start listening. Their appearance is a bit unusual, which may be a positive or negative according to your taste. However, the two sound sticks are mostly clear plastic and are quite unobtrusive, so this isn't much of an issue.

These speakers never even came close, let alone lived up to all of the great reviews.
I've had them a little over a year and the speakers have essentially quit working.
Really disappointing! If Harmon Kardon won't do anything for me then they have lost a customer forever. If you are thinking about getting these speakers - be wary.

    Another Great HK Product

I purchased the original HK Series One USB powered speakers back in the day and since the originals became obsolete in Lion, I wanted to wait until I could get another HK system. For the price you cannot go wrong. The sub sits under my desk and the satellites sit on both sides of the monitor. The sound is fantastic. I doubt a speaker system that cost over the cost of these HK's are any better, I can't justify $400 speakers no matter the quality.

For a small package these speakers give out some great sound. Also for the price you can't beat it. You won't be disappointing with these. My neighbors right now don't like them very much. haha enjoy

Ok... Ive had these sticks for about 5 years now and they still perform as they did from the start... IMPRESSIVE... at a great price...
I just bought a Mac desktop and thought that i would upgrade my speakers. I spent double the amount on new speakers and WOW... no comparison to the Sticks... I plugged them in side by side and Wow... the Sticks blow the others away for less than half the price.

    great sound

I have had these speakers for many years now and they sound awesome. Subwoffer plus sticks produces great bass and clean treble at loud volumes. The only complaint is that they are pretty distinctive in appearance, and, well, it depends on your style. I'd prefer a more subtile effort. Still, if great sound is your objective, get these.

I received the second gen version of these (almost identical) in 2008. They are playing crisp, beautiful music today (2013) and still look new. If looking for a 2.1 sound system in this price range I would find it difficult to buy anything else. Form factor, sound quality, bass response: its all great.

I bought this speaker system about a year and a half ago and it's still the life of the party! I brought it to college with me and received many noise complaints, especially from the room below mine due to the spectacular bass. I highly recommend this product!!

Great sound gear, perfect for desktop listening.

    + rich mid-high notes
    + very clear bass
+ even after owning the set for 7 years the design does not tire
+ incredibly clear and distinctive given the size

    - no remote
    - touch based controls
    - /+ i've heard better B&W sets but not at this pricepoint
    - no optical

I would buy these again without second thoughts, one of best investments made.

    Great "bang for the buck".

I bought a set of these to use with my mini and HDTV I use for a monitor seeing as the sound from the stock speakers is anemic at best. This enabled me to use them for the TV speakers also and WOW what an improvement! I've used the setup to watch movies and TV for some time now and I couldn't be happier. I realize these aren't $8,000 Martin Logan's or B&W Nautilus at nearly twice that (and they weren't designed to fill that market) but for $160.00 these things rock! Action movies like Pirates of carabean or Matrix series, have plenty of punch and realism for my little 18x24 room and NASCAR racing... Yea that's the ticket. Football and baseball games too. All I can say is you have to see, feel and hear these to believe them, so unless you just have money to burn grab a set, put the sub in a corner and be as amazed as everyone that sees these cool little things is.

Im a video editor that was looking for some great speakers for monitoring audio, I fell into the hype and cool design of these speakers. I have found that they sound just like speakers that are much cheaper. They do get the job done, im not saying they are a bad speaker, but you can buy some about half the price and get the same performance.

    Beautiful Sound - Easy Hookup

    • Written by from Divide

I have the speakers set up at one end of a long front room (40'x16') in my mountain cabin (living room, dining area, kitchen). For this space, I can't imagine any speakers producing better sound.

The speaker system works great with Airport Express playing music from iTunes on my iBook G4 or iPad3, and it plays the audio portion of movies or TV shows I'm watching on my iPad3. The set-up was simple enough for a klutz like myself, and I even accidentally placed the speaker with the barely noticeable volume controls in the easier-to-reach location.

Pros: For simple listening enjoyment in a small home, it's nice to get away from the wall full of stereo components, equalizers, amps, etc. The equalizer on iTunes is adequate for my ears.

Cons: Wish there was a remote control for the volume - I'm not always near the laptop or iPad when the volume needs adjusting.

Note: I bought these identical speakers in Sep. 2012 for $152.12 (free shipping) at Amazon. Not much of a price difference, just FYI.

    Best computer speakers ever! But...

    • Written by from Studio City

These are, hands down, the best sounding (and best looking!) desktop computer speakers I've ever used!

The only reason I give them four stars, not five, is that the original version used a USB interface rather than analog audio. USB was about 1000x better. Volume control was handled by software in the computer only, so your keyboard volume keys controlled the volume without the additional complication/confusion of a secondary volume control on the speakers. And the computer knew they were "SoundSticks" connected, which was also cool, software-wise.

I have two of the original versions, which I'll never give up...

Anyhow, great speakers!!! And nobody makes anything better, so get them!!!

I love these speakers. I bought mine when the first TiBook was introduced in 2001. They sound as great today as they did 10 years ago. You will not regret this purchase. I suspect that these will end up in MOMA's industrial design collection next to the G4 Cube.

    Read The Instructions!

I bought these to replace a set of the original SoundSticks [USB connection]. It appeared to be an essentially identical product so I set them easily and quickly. They sounded fine but the volume level was very low compared to my old set. At maximum output level on my Mac they were as quiet, or quieter, than the built-in speakers. I was getting ready to return them when I noticed two buttons [+/-] on the right speaker. An output level control! Voila! I then read the manual and -- duh!

Things do change. I am very happy now and if I get the 10+ years of service from these I got from the originals I will be a very happy camper.
