    Prone to failure

    • Written by from Thornhill

These speakers produce amazing sound for their size. Be aware that the primary speakers are linear, so they are *very* directional. My only complaint is that mine (and those of numerous other owners) can suddenly stop working. I loved the sound, loved the looks, but will never buy H/K again.

Sound is meh. Not great. Not horrible.
Touch volume control is difficult to use.
Power switch is in rear of sub (extremely inconvenient).
    Sub is illuminated (annoying).
Power switch is is a push style potentiometer that doubles as control for independent sub volume, and prone to breakage due to its poor component quality and mounting design.
    No headphone jack.

    Not impressed...

Alright, for a while these speakers were great, until about a year later when they recently just lost a lot of sound. For the price, never buying them again.

Good at first, not so good later.

After seeing all the great reviews here I thought I'd give you all a little perspective from someone who has owned a pair of these for several years. They sound great out of the box, but be aware that they do clip (distort) a bit. Over time mine even started rattling and coming apart. The magnets on two of the small speakers came off and I had to put tape on both sticks to keep them together, which has resulted in more rattling. They look cool and are a lot better sounding than most computer speakers, however, if you're a stickler like I am about sound quality then I would consider doing a little research. Perhaps there is a better option available. Alrighty, there you have it.

    Dissappointed - First Time Around

    • Written by from Mooresville

Just received the HK SSIII. Any music played (regardless of genre) through these speakers at a volume level just over 1/2 produces a noticable distortion as if peak-clipping is occuring. It is noticeable on both my MacBook Pro 2010 and MacPro Early 2008. I called Apple and they are going to send out a replacement. I hope that is all there is as I hope to write a more positive review once the replacement is tested.
