Loaded software from original disk. Pluged in scanner. Scanned one receipt document ok. Will not scan anything else. Get error message window with image of paper monster: "There appears to be a problem. Server was unable to complete our request. Try again later. Error 50????"
Deleted all Neat files. Downloaded software again. Scanner will not work. Tried this several times. Let message at customer support. No reply. Here it is several days later still will not work.

    • Written by from Marshall

Well, it looks nice. It doesn't work. Gets worse every time I try it again. I am going to send it back. No phone number for help. Sent email message--they will get back to me. I knew better. My wife wanted the blasted scanner.

If You Own One - Get Out Now

    • Written by from LIBERTYVILLE

If you own a Neat Scanner - you should export your library to PDF files because in order to have useable data when Neat goes out of business. You should also stop using the Neat Scanner (yes, a bummer to have wasted the money) and get a SnapScan.

As you can see from the other reviews, the Neat Scanner just doesn't work. My experience over the past year with a MacMini - it takes a good 5 minutes of opening and closing the Neat application while unplugging and plugging in the scanner before it will do a scan. The Neat application takes a long time to open - which is frustrating to workflow.

If you don't own a Neat Scanner DON'T BUY ONE!!

PS: It gets one star because I couldn't figure out how to do negative stars.

Upgraded to Mavericks and lost my Neat functionality. So upset as everything in my office now revolves around scanning. Estimated fix mid November? Unacceptable!

Absolute waste of money and time!

    • Written by from Fort Worth

I do not recommend NeatDesk canner for Mac.

The 'automatic' scanner constantly issues through more than one receipt at a time. The analyzing software does not work 99% of the time. Therefore, the only way to generate a digital record of a receipt is to manually feed a receipt through the scanner and type in or correct the 'analyzed' information from the receipt.

Bogus claims by Neat Company of this scanner's capability and no service after the sale. I wish I had checked other options and urge anyone considering this scanner to do the same. There has to be a better product available.

    Heartburn Medicine Not Included!

    • Written by from Spokane Valley

I've been using the neat desktop scanner since 2008. I can tell you from an extreme amount of frustration, jubilation and overall disappointment I would not recommend this scanner. In fact I'm amazed that apple has it in this store.

Truth is... the scanner itself is a well made rugged, hard working device that I have no complaints about. I'd give it a 5 star rating.
The software on the other hand is the worst I've ever experienced, EVER! The updates are few and far between and I could write many pages on all the problems I've encountered over many years of trying to deal with this company and the software.

I've had enough and am offering mine for sale today on craigslist. Cheap!

    exercise in futility

    • Written by from Eastern Passage

The Neat scanners do not work with Apple's Image Capture software under Mavericks (OS 10.9). When attempting to scan a document, the scan never finishes and the scanned document never appears. This makes the scanner useless outside of the Neat Software. In particular, I used to be able to use my Neat Scanner with Mariner Paperless Software. But now I cannot. This is very frustrating as it is an expensive piece of hardware. I'd recommend a Fujitsu Snap Scan product instead. The Fujitsu scanners are much easier to work with, are more reliable, and have more control over the scan output. Most importantly, the Fujitsu scanners work seamless with Mariner Paperless software.

    amateur buggy software

    • Written by from Orinda

This has crashed numerous times for me. Its buggy behavior, its crash reporting log, indicate that the driver was hoked together from untested unreliable libraries, that the authors did not know how to write stable, robust code, and that the QA was woefully inadequate.

According to their About Us numerous 'third party' libraries were used to build it. Most of these were downloaded from private web sites. Which means hobbyists wrote it. C'mon Neat -- if you are selling a product hire a competent programmer to write the driver.

What a big disappointment and waste of my time

    • Written by from Myrtle Beach

As mentioned by the majority of the reviewers, the Neat scanner does not work with mac. I had several email exchanges with the Neat support staff, unfortunately, they could not help it running. The software is outdated and still not compatible with the Mavericks, despite what they have told me that it should work with Mavericks.

Although, the Neat scanner is made by Fujitsu, this one does not work with Mac, in contrast to the other ScanSnap Fujitsu scanners (I have 2 of them in use in my business). It looks like the driver software is not configured the right way to function with OS 10.9 (yet). I am sure, it is fixable, but as of now, it is not useful. I hope the problem would be fixed soon, as there are not many alternatives for Mac users out there. Essentially, the scanner hardware (if it is in deed made by Fujitsu) should be ok, the problem lies in the software.

    very disappointed -

    • Written by from Old Hickory

the sole reason I bought this machine is so I can import scanned receipts straight into Quickbooks as advertised. Surprise, surprise : it does not work in the Mac version . only windows. what the heck ?
....so then, why is this thing associated with and sold by Apple ?
And why is this not clearly mentioned anywhere ?

    Neat for Mac is garbage.

    • Written by from Meridian

Wanted to get this scanner for a long time. Turns out it is a LEMON. It just does not work at all. Software just loop processed and never works. I paid a premium for this scanner and it is the wist tech purchase I have made in 5 years, easy.
Don't buy. Customer service kindly told me wait time was "60 minutes or less". I guess I am not alone on my problems.

Will not work with OS X 10.9 (Mavericks)!!!

    • Written by from AUSTIN

Please note that this scanner will not work with OS X 10.9. Target release for a fix is mid November!!! I also agree with most of the negative reviews on this product. The Mac version of the software is way behind the Windows version and there are no published plans to catch up. OCR is mediocre at best.

It is not worthy of even 1 star

    • Written by from Sarasota

Do not buy this. They cater to Windows. The software is terrible. OCR is "maybe" 25% decent, no where near standards from any other scanner manufacturer. But the worst is if you have a misfeed or jam, and have scanned lots of documents or receipts, you lose the information. I have repeatedly told them about this, but it seems they do NOT care. This is not a product worthy of being in the Apple Store

    Do not buy

    • Written by from Trussville

I thought at first I was going to like the Neat Receipt scanner to consolidate bills, documents, etc, but it has turned into a horrible piece of garbage.
After owning it for 6 months, it has gotten slower and slower, and continuously locks up my MacBook. I doubt I have ever plugged it in, used it, and been able to walk away without having to fiddle with my computer to get it back to normal.

Then on returning to my desk, hooking up the scanner and waking up the program of N.R., the computer never just goes straight to scan mode without me having to figure out how to get it to work again. I've been on the phone with customer service 5 or 6 times and still no luck.
Look for something else besides this product.

Mac version does not support Quickbooks export. So while the software might be nice and create pretty reports, if it doesn't export into Quickbooks then I'll just use a regular scanner.

    Horrible Software Locks Up Constantly

    • Written by from Colorado Springs

I like the design and it is fast, but the quality of scans leaves a lot to be desired. My Canon Pixima MX870 produces better scans at 300dpi, but I need a fast dedicated scanner so the Fujitsu ScanSnap IX500 has much better reviews and I have it coming in a few days, so the Neatdesk is getting returned.
