Mac version does not support Quickbooks export

    • Written by from Phoenix

Mac version does not support Quickbooks export. So while the software might be nice and create pretty reports, if it doesn't export into Quickbooks then I'll just use a regular scanner.

    Scanner does not work

The Mac software does not function well with the scanner. The scanner will not calibrate and is very erratic. Despite two scanners and multiple emails and software patches, this scanner does not function at all. A very big disappointment. I would not purchase this product.

    Horrible Software Locks Up Constantly

I like the design and it is fast, but the quality of scans leaves a lot to be desired. My Canon Pixima MX870 produces better scans at 300dpi, but I need a fast dedicated scanner so the Fujitsu ScanSnap IX500 has much better reviews and I have it coming in a few days, so the Neatdesk is getting returned.

    Become spyware

I have used this product since version 2. Like the other reviewers, I have struggled with its crashes, lockups, the terrible OCR (gets it right maybe a third the time which means you really need to enter your metadata manually), general over all bugginess. At the same, time, I have tried every other competing "paperless" app out there and none do my job as well as this one. "Paperless" from Mariner is getting close, but still not as good.

So I have put up with its problems. I have years worth of receipts and data entered into it.

But what got me livid is that it has now since version 4 and this new cloud, for all intents and purposes, become spyware. These are your financial records, and when opened whether you use the cloud services or not, it connects to 15 different servers. Including doubleclick, hubspot, google, amazon whose sole purpose is to collect data on YOU. The user.

If you read the privacy policy, like most companies now, they collect data on your use of their site, and they reserve the right to poke into your stored in the cloud data. Which I personally think is a bad idea for storing financial records anyway if you have any concern about your privacy.

But nothing about using this app on a local machine with locally stored data. What makes a paperless office app useful is the metadata. Which is all typed. It is entirely possible with the right network software to block these tracking companies out, but you are taking time, money and trouble to do it. It resembles the Sears fiasco some time back where the FTC put a stop to the collecting data on users.

If I had the money for it, I'd sue them. As it stands, like several other reviewers have quoted, I have hundreds of hours of work which I am faced with doing over in another app.

The scanner itself? I have had occasional feed problems with it like some of the others have mentioned where it eats multiple pages at once, It has a particularly hard time with slick thermal paper receipts. Change of paper thickness gives it a hard time. But by and large the scanner itself has been a workhorse.

My biggest issue is with the software. And since like several others have quoted, the scanner won't work with other software, so I am faced with ditching and replacing that too.

Software Upgrades and all Content Lost

Buyer Beware! This company sells software, hardware is proprietary and can not be used without the corresponding software. They just made the $400 investment OBSOLETE!!! Get ready to lose all old data and be prepared to pay rent for this over priced garbage on the cloud or completely useless.

Being Audited right now...the sole reason we keep records!!! I purchased both sizes of this product and 2 separate software packages and 100% LOSS. Don't waste your time or money.

    It's like Receipt Roulette

I've an Epson Artisan 837 Multi - Function, which doesn't scan standard size receipts, or business cards via the document feeder. So, I purchased NeatDesk, and have been so disappointed! One day after purchase, the Software became non - functional, and I was prompted to install the complementary Upgrade. I copied my NeatDesk data as recommended, but the Upgrade wouldn't recognize it. Several attempts at re - installation were finally successful, but then the Editor feature, which allows you to edit your data, became permanently greyed - out. Essentially, it's Receipt Roulette, and a great way I wasted three (3) days of time.

Useless, 2 machines retuned. DO NOT BUY!

Just a quick review to agree with others.
This does not work properly at all, had 2 of them and returned them due to them simply failing after short usage.

In the end I bit the bullet and bought the market leader Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M, which works flawlessly, without all the software niggles the NeatDesk machine has.
Everyone should own the S1500M machine if they really want to be SERIOUS about going paper-free. It really has worked for me and several friends also use one accordingly, even in their businesses, as nothing really competes with it for home or SME business usage.

Why they bothered to release this, one really wonders. No, the NeatDesk is definitely a second-rate option here in comparison with the S1500M.

Cannot share scan files between user accounts

    • Written by from Plano

I bought the Mac version out of the box. My wife and I have our own iPads, iPods, etc. and we have our own separate iTunes accounts for them because we have slightly different tastes in music, movies, etc. Therefore, we have our own User accounts on our one MacBook, to make it easy for us to log in and sync our devices to our iTunes accounts.

However, we both pay our bills. The problem is that when you create a scan Cabinet on one User account, NeatDesk refuses to allow another User account access that Cabinet file, even if you specifically Share the Cabinet file and folder it is in.

It is a major hassle to use yet a third User account just to pay bills or having to keep logging on each other's accounts, because as you pay bills you often send emails out about stuff, and when you are in the other person's account you have to log out.... Blah blah blah.

So now the NeatDesk scanner is in the "box of electronic junk I'm going to get around to throwing away someday."

    Vastly disappointed. Huge letdown.

Not the one to rock your world...

I researched heavily, considering that I'm moving to an entirely (or as close as I can possibly get) paperless office. I needed a workhorse. This is not that. What IS that, however, is the Fujitsu Scan Snap, which, after a few trials with each, was the one I eventually bought. It blows this one away, and though the footprint is perhaps bulkier, it still has an "Apple" feel to the design.

I really wanted NeatDesk to be my choice, but I had to go with the one that really pulls the cart. I was very surprised to find that I could not buy the ScanSnap through Apple. I almost always like the outside maker product/accessory offerings made here at the Apple site, but this is one they flubbed.

Save your money by not purchasing this product. I don't believe how could they put an add on national TV and sell a faulty product which does not work at all. I just bought one for my mac and it keeps on indexing files doing nothing else. It has been doing the whole day. Do not buy this product or else you will regret like me.

We have been using these scanner (2) on our PCs with no problems. However, do not use it on a mac. I bought the mac software for $75. It keeps freezing up our imac. The scanner freezes up too. This software is not compatible with macs. I wish I've red the reviews before I bought the software.

    Absolutely Terrible...

    • Written by from Hattiesburg

175 of 187 people found this useful

This is a terrible product regarding hardware and also a horrible piece of accompanying software. The scanner had to be replaced under warranty in less than 6 months because it inexplicably snatched up to 25 pages of paper at a time when scanning. The software constantly crashes for no explicable reason. This same thing has happened though several revisions of their software. Their only offered solution is to create new libraries and start over! This is of course entirely unacceptable because they never update the software to correct the problem.

Product support never responds appropriately and never explains why the software crashes. Moreover, the company has now discontinued phone support completely and the only way to communicate with them is through e-mail that is also terrible as far as quick, responsive problem resolution.

Do not buy this scanner or software if you expect good customer service, reliability or functionality.

I thought this would finally take me to a paperless office. Big mistake.
If you have all day to scan and organize your papers go ahead, buy it. I don t have time to waste.

Got a Kodak scanner to handle my papers now.

I was really looking forward to this product, and then I got it...

The software is way behind the windows version, one side of the duplex scanning is 50% quality of the other, post-processing of the image is not acceptable (grainy, no anti-aliasing), and the software is deadly slow.
