    Worst product ever

I purchased this product, and garbaged it in 1 week, the blue tooth disconnects suddenly, and won't connect easily. the key strokes are rigid, and the product feels and looks very cheap. If you do spreadsheets, stick with your Mac wired keyboard. Worst product ever and Apple should not sell it in its store. i purchased it believing is Mac approved.

    A Good Product

Once you get this keypad set up properly, it works great! It works with "pages," "numbers," the calculator, and Quicken. I had problems at first - it wouldn't stay connected or work with the calculator or Quicken. I found 2 easy solutions. #1 - don't turn it off - if you let it go to sleep mode it will keep it's connection even if you turn off your Mac. #2 - make sure it's on the Mac setting (sounds obvious but the switches are very tiny). I actually called the support number - they were patient & helpful! My only recommendation would be an integrated rechargeable battery system. ~sr

    DOES NOT WORK WITH QUICKBOOKS

    • Written by from Milwaukee

I bought this keypad because Apple (for some stupid reason) does not have a number pad on their wireless keyboard. I wanted to use it specifically for Quickbooks software and it unfortunately does not work. Will be returning it. Not sure if it works well for other software as I have not tried it in that capacity.

I bought this keypad to be a companion to my wireless keyboard. It was a pain to keep connected to the MacBook Air. I hated it so much that I threw it away. Waste of my money.

Full disclosure: I've had the device for only a week. But in that time, I have had no problems at all with this keypad. The wake-up time is maybe 2-4 seconds--not that bad. (And I've found that if I type a few numbers on the keypad and THEN ask it to wake up, it does so more quickly than if I do the reverse.) I love being able to switch btw keypad & calculator--great for managing a budget--and the Send function, by which you can send a calculator result to your screen, is really helpful. The plastic shell, which I thought would really bother me, is nearly indiscernable during use. It's true that the keys don't work as well as Apple's keyboards...but I haven't really found that to be a problem. In general, I'm happy with this.

I realize my unit is completely new, though; possibly its functionality will unravel in the weeks/months/years to come. If so, I'm comin' back to here to shout about it.

    That's my view...

Save your money and get the wired keyboard

I got this to supplement my Bluetooth keyboard with my iMac. That was a mistake. I did like having the ability to use a 10 key when needed but having to connect it each and every time was cumbersome at best. I ditched it and got the wired keyboard with the 10 key. Best decision I have ever made. I don't understand why people need a wireless keyboard (mouse i get) for the iMac. Like the title says save your money and get the real apple 10 key keyboard, you will be happy you did.

    Disappointingly Large

Do not be fooled (as I was) by the image of the product looking like it's the same size as your Apple Wireless Keyboard - IT ISN'T! It's a good inch larger (front to back) and hulks over the keyboard like a giant. Also, if you are running one key Windows app in a Virtual Machine along with all your usual Mac apps (as I am), the fact that they placed the PC-MAC switch on the BOTTOM (what were they thinking) makes switching an absolutely pain. Wish I hadn't bought it. But it works so it's not worth returning. It's just not nearly as cool as I thought it would be. Darn I wish Apple made a 10-key wireless keyboard.

I bought this unit less than 90 days ago. It was always a pain as it won't stay connected long enough to do a basic spread sheet. Then the display popped up on the front edge, and it won't stay down! Today, it stopped connecting period. I want my money back!

    Piece of Junk

It worked fine, for about four days. Then the "3" key stuck in the depressed position. It still works, but that key doesn't spring back at all.

And, really, I should I have returned it as soon as I opened it. It's cheaply made with very poor key action. They keys aren't very springy and are spaced a little off, it's just not a good-feeling keypad. Especially for the price.

Find another calculator keypad, don't buy this.

It worked just over a month, just long enough to not be able to return it to the apple store. I emailed the company and they said to email back my name, address and phone number and they would issue an RMA number. Yea right. 3 attempts later (that were ignored), I finally gave up and called them. We'll see how this goes.

I absolutely loved it when it worked, but I really need it to work all of the time...

Functions allright but loves batteries. Reconnecting by BT is not always straight forward.
Nice as a calculator but not as an add-on besides a Mac wireless keyboard. Somewhat to big and clumpy in relation to the wireless keyboard.

    NO CLEAR BUTTON ON BLUETOOTH

    • Written by

10 of 14 people found this useful

I am so angry. When I connected the bluetooth calculator to my Macbook Pro the keys worked BUT i did not have any key on the calculator to delete my screen or clear numbers. I would have to take my mouse/cursor and click clear on the screen or the delete key on my computer. When I am typing in lots of numbers on a spread sheet this is not convenient. I called customer service and they said that this is part of the design. this is NOT a glitch. The calculator will never have a clear button when connected to bluetooth.
This is such a simple process, i dont understand why it isnt apart of this keyboard.
    I am returning this product.

    Bluetooth Keypad/Calculator Product

    • Written by from Oakland

    Positives.

It does exactly what it says it does. It gives 10-key to laptops and short keyboards as well as a working calculator to boot.

    Negatives.

It is a Bluetooth device, as such there will ALWAYS be a lag time as the bluetooth service finds and connects it. Average time for my experience is 30 seconds to 1 minute. For data entry though, I'm not turning it on for short bursts, I want it on for quite a while so this isn't a problem for me.

Smklink, not Apple, makes this product so it didn't go through the Jonathan Ives process. As such it doesn't exactly match Jonathan Ive's keyboards which is only to be expected.

Great product when it stays on

When the calculator keypad stays on and you are continuously at the computer doing work, this is a fabulous product. I like switching between calculator and keypad mode. When I switch from the calculator to keypad, the numbers still stay on the screen so I can type them in the computer. I'm a student studying finance and accounting and this comes in very handy.
One big downfall is that you almost always have to bluetooth sync it every time. And it becomes a big pain. But when it works, its a great! Thats why I gave this 4 stars.

    Waste of Money

I read several of the reviews prior to buying this and thought I would give it a go anyway. Well, I shouldn't have wasted $60 on this piece of junk. It doesn't connect when it should, it goes to sleep and requires reseting all the time the battery life is terrible.....and it just has NEVER worked correctly. It is sad to see that Apple a company I love and have purchased many, many products of theirs over the years would sell something that is not up to Apple standards. It shouldn't have the Apple name attached to it! DON'T BUY THIS!!!! TRUST ME!

    Never connects, ever

I also would have preferred a keyboard w/ a numeric pad but was talked into the smk-link calculator/keyboard. This device paired with my mac with no issues, but has never been able to connect. When i try, the mac thinks it's a keyboard and asks me to hit the key to the right of the left shift key, which, of course, doesn't exist. I have tried everything to no avail. I see a lot of reviews that are both good and bad, so I wouldn't put down $50 for this product unless you're feeling lucky.

If you have a MacBook Pro and do any data entry, this is a must have. It works perfectly and makes my life SO much easier. I do accounting every day with my MBP and this thing has become a god-send. Definitely worth it.

It is sometimes finicky right when it is first connecting but it never takes longer than a minute and once it’s connected, there will not be any problems until you close or sleep your computer. Then its just a simple reconnecting from the bluetooth menu.

It won't pair despite the Mac recognizing it. Can't enter numbers on the keypad in keypad mode. So it won't take the code. It's going back ASAP.
