    Fell apart

    • Written by from Atlanta

I didn't have trouble syncing like some other reviewers and the thing would usually connect - although not usually automatically. I would have to go in to bluetooth and search and connect.

However, after 6 months of use, the "4" button came off and cannot be fixed. For $60 it should last longer. Very disappointing.

    lasted over 2 years

    • Written by from chesterfield

I used mine without problem for over 2 years. I liked how I could switch from keypad to calculator by pressing a button, waking it up from sleep? Easy. Had no problem with connecting to bluetooth, found the instructions to be easy. The only time it lost connection was when I turned it off on the unit instead of disconnecting from bluetooth. I found it useful for my school work, entering data, etc. No problems. Unfortunately after carrying it in my school bag, (getting tossed around, dropped, having the laptop land on it) it has died. Would I get another? YES!

This product is a disgrace to the Apple Store. Never connected to my computer. Made from cheap plastic that seemed to be bent.

    Don't Even Bother!!

    • Written by from Fairfax

As all of the reviews state, thought it was a great solution to the wireless keyboard, WRONG. I didn't have any trouble setting it up, getting it to sync, but once its set up simple functions such as CLEAR don't even work, I have to go to the track pad to clear the calculation. The back space/delete button...ditto - doesn't work. It calculates just great, if you want to do ONE calculation and quit.... Seriously - what a waste of $$$. You are better off using a regular handheld calculator....invest in the wired keyboard, don't think twice. I think they misplaced the decimal in the cost, it should have been placed in front of all the numbers... Bought Today...RETURNING TOMORROW!!

    Waste of money

I bought this keypad at my local Apple Store and it was a complete waste of money. It quit connecting to my computer within the first week of purchase. Now it's just an expensive calculator. Apple should quit selling this product. Save your money and don't buy.

    Terrible!!!

    • Written by from Grand Island

I've had this item for two months. I use excel almost daily, so the need for a fast alternative numerical input was needed. This product never syncs up on its own and rarely does when I bluetooth it. The other reviews are dead on with functionality, that it's overpriced and more of a hassle than it's worth. Apple dropped the ball for selling this in their stores. I never would have bought it if an associate didn't recommend it, it was a poor impulse buy without reading the reviews. I should have bought the wired board like I set out to do. I would not recommend this to anyone. I would give it 0 stars if I could!

    Warning!

    • Written by from San Francisco

The included instructions will NOT pair this unit up with your Mac! Go to their website, such as it is, and there you will eventually find the correct procedure. I spent a highly frustrating, precious hour of my life, fruitlessly attempting to pair this, to no avail.
Displayed in the box, you think: Nice, the missing keypad to compliment an Apple wireless keyboard....then you take it out of the box and you discover that, not only is is entirely made of cheap plastic, but it doesn't have the Apple attention to design that you have grown to expect from peripherals.
I'm highly disappointed that Apple let this product claim space in their store, and if my day wasn't so pressed for time, I'd storm back and get a refund.
After examining it, if I could revisit the dollar value; I would say that it's worth $12.99 - tops, and that's generous.
    Great idea - terrible execution!

Apple should stop selling this product!

    • Written by from Providence

From the first attempt to keep this product connected (and in the correct mode) to finally giving up and using it as a bluetooth paperweight, this has been by far the worst product I've purchased at my local Apple store (Providence, RI). I'm trying to figure out if I can bring it back for a refund as it ABSOLUTELY does not perform as advertised.
If there were a negative star rating this product would a minus 4.
It does not work with MS Excel at all, the very reason I purchased it in the first place as I use Excel heavily for work. It will not enter numbers in a form online (i.e., entering a credit card number for a purchase). Its only capability is that it will function as a calculator, albeit a very expensive one.
Come on Apple, even a cursory examination would have shown you that this is an inferior product.

    very disappointing

I received this keypad in May and for the first couple of months it worked great. Now I have had 2 keys pop off for no apparent reason, so those numbers are useless. I have emailed the company twice with no response. I am very disappointed that Apple would promote such an unreliable item from such an unreliable company!!

Poor quality control and difficult to sync

    • Written by from Delson

The 7, 8 & 9 keys don"t work. It was very difficult to sync with Mac OS X 10.6.5. Had to change the passcode settings manually which was not indicated in the instructions. With 3 keys that don't work it's useless anyhow. I'm returning this product. Good idea but bad product quality.

    Lots of Trouble

    • Written by

I purchased this because I am a teacher and need the keypad to enter grades. I have taken it into the store a number of times, and each time I get it home it does not work. Apple needs to make a good quality keypad and throw this one to the dogs! It is very frustrating.

    I like this product

    • Written by

I've purchased this keypad for more than 3 months now. It works just fine for me so I've decided to write a review about this. I like the idea that it's a combination of calculatoer and keypad and I can use the SEND key to send the numbers on LED to computer. It's easy to connect and use. It surprised me that people are rating this product so low because of the connection problem. Often enough my keypad goes into sleep mode, but it only take 3-5 seconds to wake up. I don't find any problem with that. I think it's a good problem and I would recommend it everyone.

    SMK Bluetooth Numeric Keypad

    • Written by from Canton

It will not stay connected and reconnecting each time I need to use it is a chore. I would not recommend this product as a ten-key device if you need it to function reliably.

    Good Idea - Poor quality

    • Written by from Mississauga

This looked to be a good addition to my macbook as I do a lot of calculation and having an external numeric keypad is valuable to me... That it also will replace the calculator on my desk made it seem a no brainer to pick it up.

Unfortunately, the unit I received is defective (several keys do not work at all) and so far it has proven quite challenging to receive support from the manufacturer.

I would recommend passing on this product.

    Stopped connecting to iMac

    • Written by from Lexington

I had the keypad for 90 days and it just stopped connecting to my iMac. I, like may others, should have read the reviews before buying it at the Apple store when I bought my iMac. I'll try returning it to SMK-Link. I suggest going with the wired version from Apple.
