    Great for Editing HD Video

    • Written by from Williamsburg

The user interface is somewhat sparse, but the underlying capabilities are impressive. I have used this program for several HD projects from my Panasonic Lumix. I could easily cut and paste segments into my videos, and edit and sync sound tracks. I haven't seen these capabilities elsewhere for the price. The program also provides many great options for exporting to other formats. I should give it another star to counter the low ratings from others, which I don't understand, but I won't. It is a solid product for the price.

    QT Pro Win7 64bit repurchase?

    • Written by from North Sydney

I bought Quicktime pro while I was using my Windows XP region. And with the camera I have it was absolutely a bargain for the price.

I do have one issue though, now that I have upgraded my PC to Windows 7 64bit do I have to buy another copy to have a functioning Quicktime Pro?

IT WORKS FINE... you just have to play with it

    • Written by from Austintown

The only reason this product does not get 5 stars is that I did have to mess with settings for about 20 minutes until I got what I wanted...

Specifically, when exporting to AVI, us the "DV PAL" compression instead of the Cinepak compression and make the quality "Best". It looks just as good as the QT version.

IF YOUR NOT A PRO, THEN DONT BUY!!!!

    • Written by from Pompano Beach

It seems most of the complaints are do to amatuers trying to use a pro product. If you dont understand video codecs and encoding then dont buy. You cant expect to get HD video by converting your cell phone videos or .WMVs, It just doent work. You cant add data to the file, you can only compress. Its like taking a small low resolution .jpeg and blowing it up, see all the pixels.
I know how to use QTP and it works everytime, all the time. For $30 its a steal.

    Great for simple editing

I was hesitant to purchase Quicktime Pro after reading many negative comments. However, it worked great for a simple video editing project I had to do for work.

    good for what it is

    • Written by from Seattle

I use Quicktime Pro for export different types of Quicktime movies (different codecs and sizes), and for assembling image sequences. It is pretty handy for that. I've never even tried it for editing, but don't expect it to be a powerful movie editor (instead, Apple makes iMovie and Final Cut Pro specifically for that).

Also of note: 7.4 doesn't seem to be able to import image sequences; if that is important to you try an older version. Hopefully this will be fixed soon!

    Great

I honestly don't know what everyone is complaining about. I installed QuickTime 7 Pro on my Mac 10.4.11 with absolutely no problems, and it's insanely easy to use.

I also don't know what people don't like about its avi compatibility... it works fine for me.

I downloaded a movie in avi format and wanted it on my ipod - it was easy as sin. Open the avi file, and export for ipod. How hard is that?

There's a few things this can't do, but for all that, use Handbrake. It's free, and just as easy as QT 7 Pro.

    iPhone use

I've been trying to upload video to my iPhone, and this was the best software hands down to do that. If you already have movies on your PC and want to watch them on your iPhone, then this is the software for you.

    Incompetent people complaining on Quicktime

    • Written by

Quicktime is a great product for showing a lot of various video formats and converting between them. However it is NOT a video editor thus comparing it with Windows Movie Maker is a nonsence. Quicktime does very well what it is supposed to do.
If it cannot play a video this means YOU have not installed required codecs on your PC. Don't blame QT.

Why you should use Quicktime Pro

    • Written by from Indianapolis

Quicktime Pro is for the people that the title indicates - Pros.

I work in a small studio that generates HD content, and in the past have relied on software packages like HD repair ($10,000). Our content did not have sound and we generally just felt this software was the only thing possible to crank out HD content on a regular basis.
    Not so.

We now use Quicktime 7 for all content. So, for $30 - we are doing what used to cost $10,000. You decide.

Good but not great. It does what it's supposed to.

    • Written by from Louisville

Based on reading some of the terrible reviews, I almost didn't buy Quicktime 7 Pro for Windows. I'm operating on Windows XP and my system isn't brand new and sometimes is a bit fluky.

That said,I'm glad I went ahead. The entire upgrade process worked smoothly and was over in less than half an hour. The software isn't completely intuitive and the online help is a bit dense, more like Microsoft, but I very quickly was able to achieve full functionality. Basically, within an hour, I had accomplished all I'll ever want to do with this software.

One suggestion: When you're first working with the software, use "Save As" at first and work on a copy rather than on an original. That will save you the heartache of ruining your only copy of a precious film.

Although somewhat slow in exporting, QuickTime Pro is an amazing application and, for the price, it's incredibly powerful. It does exactly what I thought it would do. I don't understand why others are having problems... hmm...
