Works fine for me! (XP user)

    • Written by from Parsippany

I bought QT 7 Pro for one thing only- to convert AVI files from my video camera into Quicktime so I can put them online. The video quality is great and the files are nice and small. No complaints here. And it's a great value at $30!

I can't vouch for the ipod and DVD-related complaints since I didn't try those features and probably never will.

    Basic features, poor implementation

    • Written by from Eugene

First I don't think people should have to buy Pro to go fullscreen and I think it's lame of apple to charge for such a simple feature. After giving in and paying 30 bucks for a feature every other free player comes with, I found that it doesn't even work with 2 monitors on WinXP. No matter what monitor the QuickTime player is on, it will go full screen on whatever the primary display is.

I respect Apple as a company and think they normally do a good job thinking about their customers experience. But this is probably their most commonly used application that also promotes their other businesses (iTunes). I see no reason why their users should pay for something as simple as fullscreen. The other features like being able to save a MOV, fine.. that makes a bit more sense.. but not fullscreen and especially not a buggy fullscreen. I don't like being spat in the face. Stop being lame Apple, make fullscreen a free feature and _fix_ it.

I was a bit leary about QT Pro after reading the overwhemingly negative reviews. I need QT Pro strictly for compressing QTRef. movies from my editing system and it seems to do a good job at it. Not as good as Sorensen Squeeze but it's a tenth of the price...
I was put off by the itunes baggage that comes with it. I stopped downloading once because I thought I had the wrong product. Apple would be better off bundling that stuff somewhere else.

I purchased this today, and it is one of the slowest softwares I have ever tried. Exporting video files so that I can watch it on my ipod, takes about...god knows how many hours. And to be honest I don't even think it works properly. It's just too much effort. My advice, don't bother with it. just watch videos on your computer.

I've been trying to upload video to my iPhone, and this was the best software hands down to do that. If you already have movies on your PC and want to watch them on your iPhone, then this is the software for you.

    QuickTime 7 Pro....Useless

If you use Windows XP...steer cleer of this!

In my opinion this software is not ready for commercial release. It is flawed at both the installation, and subsequent operation levels.

Consistent Buffer Overruns smack of amateur programming. The whole thing feels like an Alpha version...Flakey!

Do not spend any cash on this...

    DON'T BUY IT....SAVE YOUR MONEY!!

    • Written by from Yorktown Heights

I like some people out there just have to try things for myself and don't take stock on reviews and things like that. Well, in this case I wished I had. I bought this program for the main purpose of getting music videos, shows, etc on to my video ipod....that was easier said than done. The one thing Apple doesn't tell you upfront is that w/ the exception of the videos you but from itunes a large portion of the files out on the web have an audio format that is not supported by this program.

Quote from Apple's support site: "If the format is "MPEG1 Muxed" or "MPEG2 Muxed," the audio portion of the file may not be retained with QuickTime Pro or iMovie." ....In other words....You will see the video but not hear it. My friend has a MAC and has the same issue. I followed all their directions to properly load the files onto the ipod once it was converted and I had no luck w/ the audio.

There are plenty of other FREE programs out there that will work.....do yourself a favor and save the $32.00 because as they say in the FAQ's:

Question 6: If I am not completely satisfied with QuickTime Pro how do I get a refund?

Answer: Refunds are not available for QuickTime Pro.

That about sums it up....good luck w/ your decision

This isnt as bad as they say

    • Written by from Torrington

If you are getting this to convert some of your videos to iPod format, its really not that bad as long as you follow the directions they give you. but if your using this as a media player, its terrible. it lags and will freeze up your computer. (and this is a good comp im running it on) youd be better off going and downloading some cheap player you find off of google

Don't bother - can't do all it says it can

    • Written by from Nepean

Pay to play and get nothing in return. QuickTime does not have all the codex to play all the movie types it claims it can but instead, encourages you to go to "third party" partners and get their products to complete the set (usually costing more money). Not worth it at all. User manual does not provide much help either and no direct support except these reviews and blogs.

    DO NOT BUY QUICKTIME PRO!

    • Written by from Lopez

I wanted to put together a simple slideshow. The advertising says you can do it. There is a tutorial. So, silly me, I forked over $30. And you can't do a slideshow, or at least you certainly can't do it even if you follow EXACTLY what they say in the tutorial. Maybe there's a way, I'll keep looking, but ignore the tutorial, and ignore EVERYTHING Apple says about its products.

Just to sweeten the deal you can't do anything at all with WMV format, the most common format on the internet, without buying still more software, and having been burned once I'm not about to spend more money trying to make it work.

    Stay away.

To all the people that write bad reviews...you think that you'd know what you're talking about before you bad mouth the program. Quicktime pro never said it could rip DVD's, but it will convert them to put on your iPod and I have had no problem doing that. Granted it does take a little longer than I would like but it does it masterfully!!!

Delayed Write Failure and Buffer Overrun

    • Written by from BURBANK

On my Windows based BOXX Workstation, Version 7 causes the drive to disappear with the error “Delayed Write Failure” when playing Animation Codec movies. Reboot. On my other Windows system, I get Buffer Overrun errors.

I’ll be going back to Version 6.5.2 as this was the last version that worked for me. That or I need to buy a Mac… but I really like having two buttons on my mouse.

AVI to MOV conversion very poor quality

    • Written by from Morro Bay

I purchased Quicktime Pro for Windows for the sole purpose of converting avi to mov format. I have nice 720 x480 Canon DV avi converted to MS DVI which plays a good quality image in Microsoft Media Player. It plays at about 1/2 resolution when loaded into Quicktime and the export to MOV file has similar poor quality. This is not the same as the Mac version which has a number of parameter adjustments I just can't find. I'm an engineer who has worked with many video products and this doesn't even do basic conversion. How do I get my money back?
