Why the griping? Check the site!

    • Written by

Why are so many griping about having to download iTunes for QT installation? As a system administrator, I have learned to check the web site carefully, and IF you check, you CAN download QT without iTunes (especially important for corporate installations.) On the installation page for QT7, there is a link entitled Quicktime Standalone Installer, which allows you to download only QuickTime, without iTunes.

I also had a version of QuickTime Pro (I think it was version 2), and have to pay the "full price" for version 7 upgrade. Firstly, the cost of this excellent program is only $30, which is REALLY cheap fro a program of this type. There are very few (like none) programs for $30 that have the capabilities QT Pro has. Secondly, you don’t have to upgrade, and your registered version 6 will work fine forever.

It costs money to make your computing experience enjoyable. Get over it - too many people are too worried about software costs!

    Good work Apple!

Quicktime is one of the most easy to use and simplest applications. I've used it for as long as I can remember and absolutely cannot stand WMP, Real One Player, or any other media players out there.
Seriously, is $30 too much to pay?
And for those of you complaining about having to download iTunes with Quicktime, I don't understand why you're making it so complicated. A simple search of "standalone quicktime" on Apple's site here brings you to the standalone Quicktime download page. Use some common sense, people.

The upgrade to QuickTime 7 Pro went flawlessly on XP. I see a lot of people with XP having problems with the installation of the upgrade. My guess is that they have spyware and/or antivirus software running while trying to do the upgrade installation. This is a mistake made by many people installing software on XP systems. All I can say is if you don't understand all the quirks with XP as it relates to spyware and antivirus software, maybe you need to hangout on Microsoft chat boards for awhile and see that most software will not install correctly with such programs running in the background. Just a bit of advise for those complaining. :-)

    Quicktime Pro 7

Its an ok product, in the past you've had some quicktime features I liked, like on one of them there was tv area, which was cool, it would be really cool since you have the quality I like, if you could come up with TV over the internet, or streaming video. Not just trailers, but actual shows people could watch. The last time I used an apple computer was back when you had the Apple 2GS computers, and I found them really awsome..since then you've improved alot, but why can't you make video look like the theater movies, in a regular movie that a person makes the pictures are all grainy and blur when the person moves, but when a theater company makes a movie, on the screen the picture is perfect, why can't you use that same technology to come up with a crystal clear product? I currenly own a Windows Xp, computer, but if I had the money I would certainly consider buying an apple Laptop, mainly because I see the quality in it, regardless of who makes the chips in it, Apple spends a lot of time on the "quality" of the product, and not how many they can put out... which I really like. I look forward to the future, of technology, and hope that these things will come down in the future to make it affordable to everyone. Thannks...

    Great Product in QT7 Pro!

Great Product in QT7 PRO! $30 is a great price for a piece of software with this much functionality. I can not, for the life of me, see why people are complaining about no upgrade path or pricing. This is coming from a Windows XP Pro user.

    Cheers Apple!

Easy on the eyes, and easy on the size.

This new H.264 codec is a single reason alone to download this, and to encode your own videos in it, is the main reason you should own this. I will have many hours of fun Podcasting, and even more fun with the amount of video I can send to family members in such small sizes. Great buy, don't look at me, DO IT NOW!

An upgrade price for a $30 piece of software?

    • Written by from Bothell

I have a hard time wondering why anyone would complain about a full featured editing and playback software package costing ONLY $30 not having an lower upgrade cost. Quicktime at $30 is less than any other editing software environment out there! We're not talking Final Cut here that costs a grand and which has a very resonable upgrade rate... Get over it people. Quicktime is an awesome value!
