Shortens conversion to .wmv
Written by BF from Arden
Dec 17, 2009
What I found is that when converting .avi files to .wmv files it removes about 25% of the footage in length. Sucky. Talk about a waste. Figuring this out and wasting a lot of time on what was supposed to be simple little project. Now after experimenting with other editors/converters I have found that do not do this. Lame.

QuickTime 7 Pro for Mac OS X
not for professionals
Written by RP from camperdonw

It is very cool for some users because it is now more simple to export for ipod, iphone and apple TV. However, the old way to export files was better. We are not able to chose an specific codec anymore... If you need to export a video to a specific editor, such as apple pro res, HDVCPRO, animation, etc, you have to do it on another software, because the new version is limited to some few presets. Good for beginners, bad for professionals... Overall it is cool, but I miss the export options. Hope the new versions can bring it back!

Would Have Been Nice to Know!!!
Written by GS from Albany

I bought Pro and spent an immensely frustrating 90 minutes trying to edit (trim) a movie. The editing sliders (begin and end markers) wouldn't show up and I could not select parts of the movie. Why not? Pro won't edit MPEGs! The problem was only solved when I exported and reopened the video as an AVI.
The user manual and online help should make this point clear! Neither was helpful. They all assumed the markers were showing and didn't suggest solutions to their absence. A troubleshooting guide in the manual would be nice.40 of 45 people found this useful

QuickTime 7 Pro for Mac OS X
immediately regret purchase
Written by KC from Bend

Software works like advertised, easy to update. Bought mostly for converting video to ipod format, this was really all I have tested out so far being the sole reason for my purchase. I ran into issues with apple's over-protected rights block. I kept getting the error message for "insufficient right can not convert video". The weird thing is this is off my home sony camcorder. So, if i don't own the rights to the video not sure who I am really suppose to ask for permission. Any way, Apple doesn't offer refunds on this so I just thought i would vent my frustration and headaches. Hope this helps in your decision one way or another.
P.S. I was able to find an actual solution to my converting problems at lower cost and even free. Guess my loyalty to apple software just bit me in the bumm this time. Not sure if i can list website on here without this being deleted, but i just google'd "convert video to ipod format".93 of 107 people found this useful

It´s a good product but a "screen recording" capability is missing.
For screen recording you have to download other recording softwares much better and expensive than then Quicktime 7 Pro.77 of 91 people found this useful

Great and Terrible
Written by WS from Bloomfield

I've wanted screen-sharing forever, and this has got terrific screen-sharing recording. However, I cannot edit the files in Final Cut Express HD -- it doesn't recognize the files. If I record a screen-sharing, edit the file in Adobe Premier CS4, I cannot export the file as any format. However, if I take the original unedited files and use Adobe Media Encoder CS4; they convert fine. Hope they provide a fix-up soon. My QT 7 Pro upgrade came when I upgraded to Snow Leopard. So if you get QuickTime 7 Pro, you will get the upgrades forever--as I did from when I got it years ago.

Great Software

Converting my home videos and movies to iPod, iPhone, MPEG4 and other formats was quick, easy and without hassles. The results look great. Importing and exporting image sequences is also a nice feature as was combining separate sound and movie tracks. Editing features are basic but they get the job done. To sum it up I was very impressed with QuickTime 7 Pro.

Learn how it works

I gave it a bad review a couple of days ago.. i couldn't transfer files or anything... however, after 2 days of frustration (and buying another one converter that it actually messes with the audio badly) i finally learned how the quicktime pro works... I am amazed with it and now I feel a little guilty for my bad review... if in doubt, just go for it.. it is worth its cost...

Only Need One Trick Pony

Final Cut and iMovie do all my editing. But for coding & embedding video clips on my website pages, QT Pro is 100x better than my Adobe Flash CS4. By selecting "Export for Web" QT Pro compresses and encodes the .mov file down to an incredibly small file (image 852x480) with nearly zero observable loss, even for HD and is much smaller file than the Flash version with same quality. But the most valuable feature is when this "Export" feature is selected, the program creates a new folder complete with the associated files and a sample Readme.html file that contains ALL the html code for inserting on your web page to play video clips ON the page without running Player externally for a standalone movie. For me, it paid for itself the first time I needed to create the code to embed the first video.

I bought this yesterday after contemplating the cost, because I really needed something that would convert movies taken with my Samsung NV11 (.avi) into .mov format, and this was the only thing I could find.
Well, after converting my movies they seem brighter than before! It was definitely worth it!198 of 214 people found this useful

Great for Quick recordings!
Written by MT from Bakersfield
May 25, 2009
Musicians and other artists, QT is terrific for quick recordings to send to project partners. I use it for all the usual stuff, too: file conversion, viewing content etc. But I haven't seen anyone mention the instant audio and video recording capability--for those who have camera and mic built in, especially. Then use Share (under file menu) to process file for email or whatever.
Editing can get a bit technical, beyond simple cut and paste, but even us lay folk can do lots of useful and fun tasks with QuickTime. I appreciate it a lot! As do my bandmates and other musician friends.786 of 834 people found this useful

Don't make my mistake :(

Quicktime is great for conversion of file formats. I've been using it to convert video files from my dark, dark days in the Windows wilderness.
Quicktime the product gets 5 stars.
However, I screwed up when I bought the product. Yes, MY error. I inadvertently purchased the Windows version. Wasn't paying attention, can't return it, lost $30.
I took away a star because Apple has created different types of keys for the different Windows and OSX versions of Quicktime. I do not understand why this is necessary. I know it's my error that cost $30, but I don't see why it has to be this way.
The moral is... LOOK BEFORE YOU BUY, don't be like me, lol.731 of 796 people found this useful

Disappointed
Written by AP from Albany

I use QuickTime because it plays movies full screen on the TV from my Mac Mini without stuttering, unlike iTunes which occasionally stutters and causes my 20 month old to scream in that oh so ear piercing pitch that only little children can produce, and that causes my 6 month old to start crying. I cannot believe that a program like QuickTime Pro doesn't have the simple capability to create a playlist. I backed up all my son's DVD's to our Time Capsule so I could play his movies without having to constantly switch the DVD's, but this isn't much of an improvement. I could have stayed with the free version if I knew Pro couldn't create a playlist either.

Quicktime Pro works perfectly for me. I do a lot of video editing and this is great for converting video files. It works well for viewing even WMV video files. It's the main multimedia tool for the Mac and well worth the price.

Why are people complaining about $30. For the extra features it is worth it. I make quick videos using camera in the mac to send to others. Have made audio recordings of meetings that are very clear. Good upgrade. Worth it for me.

Good, but a bit pricy.
Written by CC from Broken Arrow

I bought this mainly for the ability to save embedded videos from a site, which it does just fine. I think the free version should at least do this. There are a lot of advanced features that most people probably will never use, I know I don't. So, I think a $10 price point would be more appropriate. As far as the functionality goes it is extremely good. Easy to use & plays videos very well.
