    immediately regret purchase

    Written by KC from Bend

    Nov 23, 2009

Software works like advertised, easy to update. Bought mostly for converting video to ipod format, this was really all I have tested out so far being the sole reason for my purchase. I ran into issues with apple's over-protected rights block. I kept getting the error message for "insufficient right can not convert video". The weird thing is this is off my home sony camcorder. So, if i don't own the rights to the video not sure who I am really suppose to ask for permission. Any way, Apple doesn't offer refunds on this so I just thought i would vent my frustration and headaches. Hope this helps in your decision one way or another.

P.S. I was able to find an actual solution to my converting problems at lower cost and even free. Guess my loyalty to apple software just bit me in the bumm this time. Not sure if i can list website on here without this being deleted, but i just google'd "convert video to ipod format".

    Disappointed

    Written by AP from Albany

I use QuickTime because it plays movies full screen on the TV from my Mac Mini without stuttering, unlike iTunes which occasionally stutters and causes my 20 month old to scream in that oh so ear piercing pitch that only little children can produce, and that causes my 6 month old to start crying. I cannot believe that a program like QuickTime Pro doesn't have the simple capability to create a playlist. I backed up all my son's DVD's to our Time Capsule so I could play his movies without having to constantly switch the DVD's, but this isn't much of an improvement. I could have stayed with the free version if I knew Pro couldn't create a playlist either.

    very limited

Not a very useful tool. There are more flexible format converters out there that are available for free or for a nominal fee. I have tried to use QT several times, but there are too many formats it cannot read or export to.

    Not worth it.

    Written by DG from Redding

    Mar 13, 2008

If you are thinking of purchasing QuickTime 7 Pro, make sure you know exactly what comes in it and what you plan on using it for. When it says "capture video" it means from a webcam, and "save video from internet" it means a very limited amount of videos, aka not any video from the web.

This is not what I paid for nor was it what I expected.

After buying QT Pro for Mac, paying, registering and then opening QT movies, all the editing tools remain greyed-out and do not work. What a waste of $33!
    Frustrated at this Windows-like process.

love apple but dont like Quick Time Pro

Written by AW from Saint Peters

    Oct 23, 2007

I have been happy with every purchase I have ever made with Apple but this software is worthless. I was only able to save one video from the web and nothing after. That was my whole purpose for purchasing the software. If any one finds a fix or knows what the problem is, please post a solultion.

QT Pro does NOT improve your streaming video experience

    Written by CB from Issaquah

    Oct 20, 2007

The Apple advertising and the "Pro only" markers in the Quicktime menus strongly suggest that QT Pro will allow you to download video files that ordinarily are streaming-only.

    This is not the case.

I fell for the hype and purchased QT Pro. All the "Save as", "Export" etc items in the menu are now clickable --- but when you click them, the object that actually gets saved to your hard drive is just a 1KB link to the original streaming-only content -- you are NOT able to download video files (unless you could download them in the free version of QT).

In other words QT Pro does nothing to improve your streaming-only content experience. Apple needs to make its advertising much clearer on this point. Since I don't need any of QT Pro's video CREATION features, I will be asking for a refund. Fat chance.

BTW, the content I was trying to download was a video seminar on Apple Remote Desktop --- video content from apple.com itself --- so my problem is not caused by trying to download video from some questionable source.

    A waste of time - don't buy

    Written by JD from Ashland

    Oct 11, 2007

Just downloaded the Pro upgrade, installed it on my excellent G4 OX10.4.9, and it worked fine for exactly two days. After that, it no longer accepts URLs for any internet item, so you cannot even use it as a simple viewer. Now going for a refund. Apple, please fix this? And BTW, make it clear on your purchase page that this is only an internet download and not available as a disk. I'd prefer to buy the proofed-and-debugged version on a disk, if possible. But get it right firstly.

Written by MA from Oakland Township

Apple needs to offer a way to step back to avoid these issues, or get to fixing this FAST. I can't even see the trailers in the Apple trailers section using safari. (Apple quicktime + Apple website + Apple browser and it won't work?) It makes no sense.

    Money Down the Cyber-Toilet

    Written by DM from akron

    Aug 8, 2007

About an hour after buying Quicktime Pro I flushed $30 down the toilet just to see which felt worse. You can't do the SIMPLEST things with Quicktime. And if you can... you have to be a computer expert or professional editor to figure it out. The "help" section does not answer even the simplest questions. Save your money unless you were one of the developers of Quicktime and you already know how it works and what its limitations are... and don't get me started about the limitations!!! Also... don't expect any refunds after you've flushed your money down this cyber-toilet.
