Key is no longer valid after TWO DAYS

    Written by PS from Colby

    Oct 18, 2005

I purchased quicktime pro last week. I then upgraded to quicktime 7.0.3 two days later. The instructions state that quicktime pro is inactive and I need to purchase a new key! If this is the end result I am finished with apple.

Workaround for losing Pro license after upgrading

    Written by KS from alexandria

    Oct 13, 2005

If you upgrade to a new major version of QuickTime, you have to pay another $30 for the new Pro version. The QT installation overwrites your old version by default, and nullifies your Pro license. To make matters worse, it's difficult to find older versions of QT on the net. To get around this, make a copy of the QuickTime.App file as soon as you license the Pro version (ie. if it's QT6, name it QuickTime6.App) and you should still be able to use the old one.

Better coverage of avi codecs could justify $30

    Written by TB from Hakalau

    Oct 13, 2005

I'm not going to spend another $30. Recent upgrades in functionality have not impressed me. I still cannot play many of the free "avi" video clips coming my way with very commonly used Windows codecs. My friends send me home movies and I cannot play them. When and if Quicktime gets better coverage of codecs, especially "avi" codecs, then I'll pay. Unfortunately, I see nothing so far in Apple's full-page blurb for the latest Quicktime about this. So I'll limp along for a while with my current Pro version,

    Another version, another $30...

Written by BS from Twain Harte

Its great that new versions of QT come out, but I am getting sick of always having to dish out another 30 bucks every 6 months because a new version comes out. And it seems 7 is required for the new iTunes features. So either I keep 6 which works fine, but miss out on new stuff. Or upgrade to 7, and have to dish out more money for the features I already had. Which wouldn't bother me if new versions came out once every 18 months or something. I don't have anything against paying for software I use, unless I am having to repurchase the software more than once a year. But as far as the software itself goes, its great. It may not have as many features as players like VLC, but it makes up for it in ease of use, its hardware acceleration, and its ability to play H.264 video in real time on hardware that is a few years old.

I am giving it 3 stars, 5 for the software itself, which is great. But knocking it down 2 stars because of Pro users always having to buy new versions. Would be nice if a license worked for the current version, and one big release after that.

    Registration confusion

    Written by DG from Montreal

    Oct 11, 2005

How do I know if I have the QT 7 pro - after registration, it still indicates QT 7 player.
Why don't you call things by their right name - you write, enter Registration Code (ie. serial number) !!
I see no Registration Code and I see no Serial number on the confirmation email you sent me; I see Part Number which did not work in the registration process.

I assume you mean Key(s) and after entering key(s) I get no confirmation that I am now on QT7 Pro.

Luckily I know this is a great software.

More than excellent! long life to Apple

When I read reviews about Quicktime from users PC and users Mac there is no doubt at all.
Windows "systeme" is a reel nightmare. But of course the Pc users never want to admit this fact and put all the problems on Apple.
Just a question for them: Why Microsoft Word works better on a Mac than a Pc?

QuickTime 7 Pro for Mac OS X, with its H.264 Codec and AAC audio makes a perfect partner for a device like El Gato's EyeTV. With WMV support, QuickTime can banish Windows Media Player from your desktop.

    Spectacular

I have tried many media players throughout my computing career, but QuickTime has always been far and away the most reliable. It may sound cliché, but QuickTime brings out all the best qualities of Apple; dependability, efficiency, & a gorgeous interface. My college campus (Washington University in St. Louis) is very Mac-based, so naturally everything integrates seamlessly with everything else. As a Biomedical Engineer (BME), I require fast computing and rendering in both my computer and it's applications. Whenever I have some down time, that is when QuickTime helps us college students out; Watching movies in full screen, making our own hilarious home videos with iSight, or throwing together slideshows with pictures from the weekend. I highly recommend this program to anyone, from professionals to novices, engineers to English majors. Coming from a poor college student, QuickTime Pro 7 is a $30.00 well spent.
