I installed this upgrade quickly and it immediately unlocked advanced features allowing me to save web movies to my desktop that I otherwise could not easily save and edit.

doesnt do anything that imovie cant do.. in terms of cutting/editing. maybe it just does it a bit quicker, but is that worth $30?

i bought it 10 minutes ago and am already regretting it

bought it to convert .mov to .mpeg-4, but it doesnt work. am now paying ANOTHER $20 for a different program... that actually works.

    very limited

Not a very useful tool. There are more flexible format converters out there that are available for free or for a nominal fee. I have tried to use QT several times, but there are too many formats it cannot read or export to.

    A wonderful tool

    Written by MS from WEYHE

I've read several reviews now. And many of the "reviewers" simply have not understood what QuickTime is. QuickTime is a player and a conversion tool. Plus, is it has some basic editing features for fine adjustment of saturation etc.

I use QT regulary as player and for converting film clips. I also have Flip4Mac that enables QT to play and save WMV. It's a simple question of licensing. Also, I use QT for basic quick editing (cutting out short clips or addding short scenes).

For "true" editing you need a video editing software, like iMovie, Final Cut Express or Pro or any other product on the Windows platform.

QuickTime Pro is a perfect little helper, a swiss knife - easy to use - that every creative user should have.

    It's absolutely worth 29$.

I've always been a fan of the QuickTime player, Even in my Windows days, I know it's a great payer, but to pay for the extra features? Not really to sure I'd do that.

    Good but difficult

Written by JG from New Port Richey

Although it's a good application and all, it can be quite difficult for the average user to use (especially with converting videos). There should be a few extra options (for example, PSP, iPod, PS3) so that the user doesn't have to manually find the right format that their device uses. I think Apple needs to work on that and, getting a few more codecs into the app (especially native inclusion of DivX, XviD and WMV, that would be great).

    It's Pretty Good

    Written by MP from Newburgh

I bought Quicktime and thought it would be another hard to use video viewer and editor. It worked really well in Leopard and Tiger before I upgraded. My only compliant was that whenever I wanted to convert video to a cell phone, I always head to get validation from my company that makes the phone. It isn't Apple's problem, but next time could you please integrate a validation program?

    Media Pros Love Quicktime

    Written by SL from Philadelphia

    May 8, 2008

Why are non-Media Professionals allowed to write reviews of software and hardware? If you are a non-Media Pro then your near sighted opinion of Mac hardware/software is about as valid as the notion of WMD's in Iraq. Quicktime is amazing and if you have a problem with it I highly recommend trying to use Windows Media Player, because it is a great deal more frustrating and out puts a lower grade of video.

QuickTime Pro is the essential video tool.

    Written by SC from BLACKSBURG

    Apr 13, 2008

When you buy QuickTime Pro, you get two different and useful tools: First, QuickTime Pro unlocks some CODECs (compression types) in other programs. The biggest, baddest video tools can access most good CODECs already and the free Perian CODEC installer gives you many more. Smaller video and audio tools need QuickTime unlocked to reach their full potential to export. The second thing purchasing QuickTime Pro does is turn the QuickTime Player into a sophisticated editing and export application. It offers basic jump cut (transitionless) editing and simply audio and video layering but it also gives you access to non-destructive layering, positioning, scaling, rotating, and controlling QuickTime compatible movies in a way that almost no other tool does. At $30 QuickTime Pro is the best money you can spend to increase your video capabilities. Read up though, most QuickTime Pro users only scratch the surface of what QuickTime Pro can do.

Definitely useful, but maybe not $30 worth of useful

    Written by TL from Owensboro

This upgrade is worth paying for, but I feel it's only worth about half of what they are charging for it. I finally upgraded because I wanted to save playblasts from Maya and this was the easiest way I could find to do so. I also do a bit of light video editing occasionally and basically to record or save anything you have to have Pro. I will definitely use the Pro features, but it feels like at least some of the recording or saving functions should be free.

    Not worth it.

    Written by DG from Redding

    Mar 13, 2008

If you are thinking of purchasing QuickTime 7 Pro, make sure you know exactly what comes in it and what you plan on using it for. When it says "capture video" it means from a webcam, and "save video from internet" it means a very limited amount of videos, aka not any video from the web.

This is not what I paid for nor was it what I expected.

    Good for what is

    Written by HL from Auburndale

    Mar 3, 2008

QuickTime Pro is a nice little video conversion tool with some minimal editing and effects capabilities, and that's it. For example, if you have some .dv files that you want to turn into something that you can watch on your iPod, this is the thing to get. If, on the other hand, you have camcorder footage and want to edit that, use iMovie. And if, heaven forfend, you need to synchronize sound and image using timecode info, you need Final Cut (I think.)

I think Apple overhypes this product dreadfully. As I said, it's a good video conversion tool, not an all-in-one consumer video editing solution. Ironically, I believe pro video users end up needing QT Pro for various small tasks, while amateur video users can do without it.

Another $29 Later - MIDI Removed

    Written by RS from Redlands

    This registration key works fine.

    Written by AN from Scottsdale

    Jan 12, 2008

I'm not sure most people understand what this is. Its NOT software. Its only a registration key, nothing more. What does it do? Lets you save Quicktime movies to a file from a web page. It also activates a few other odds-and-ends, but nothing to write home about. Is it overpriced, sure, but it does activate these added features. Nothing more. Nothing less.

    Bad Serial Numbers

    Written by WH from Alexandria

    Dec 4, 2007

Some people are writing in saying that after purchasing QuickTime Pro and entering the serial number it doesn't work. It happened to me as well. Call Apple, get a refund, and purchase another serial number. Apparently they don't all work. The product is great though.

After buying QT Pro for Mac, paying, registering and then opening QT movies, all the editing tools remain greyed-out and do not work. What a waste of $33!
    Frustrated at this Windows-like process.
