I've used QT Pro for years (the same version), and find it extremely useful for video compression. I just had to buy it for work to encode streaming .MOVs & it does the job without a bunch of bells & whistles. It gives you more options than any of the free file conversion applications available.

What is up with this function? QT 10 vs QT 7 (pro) confusing enuf?

    • Written by from Los Osos

QT used to work great on my MB Pro, ran mov wmv avi without a problem, now it won't even run mov. Crash crash crash. And am I getting this right, QT X should be replaced with QT Pro 7, huh? Isn't that backwards. What a mess! Really Apple we expect a lot better.

    Not Happy!

I was disappointed with this program. I was able to edit my videos, but when I wanted to burn them to a DVD I just couldn't. Please advice.

    Great product, slight registration problem

    • Written by from Ponte Vedra Beach

One of the problems I had and I'm sure a bunch of others are having as well is that Quicktime won't accept your code. In my case this was because I put a different name than who it was billed to, and it took it as "invalid". Make sure you register your Quicktime Pro to the same name as it was billed to––As well as the code, of course––, and it should work fine.

It's a great product, and I finally upgraded. I had Pro with Quicktime 6 and then didn't get QTPro for a while, but now I finally did, and it works fine =]

    Works Fine for Me

    • Written by from Oakfield

I don't know what program “SS from Lisle” was using (see review of March 16, 2006) but it obviously either wasn’t this one or he was having a bad hair day. QuickTime 7 works fine when opening and playing both MP3 and AVI files.

    worthwhile upgrade

    • Written by from Herndon

I bought the Pro upgrade for QuickTime because I needed to save some audio in an older Apple format, and it did that easily -- QT Pro offers an impressive list of in and out formats for sound and video. What surprized me was how useful the editor is: it is clear, fast, effective, and I use it often.

    A waste of time - don't buy

    • Written by from Ashland

Just downloaded the Pro upgrade, installed it on my excellent G4 OX10.4.9, and it worked fine for exactly two days. After that, it no longer accepts URLs for any internet item, so you cannot even use it as a simple viewer. Now going for a refund. Apple, please fix this? And BTW, make it clear on your purchase page that this is only an internet download and not available as a disk. I'd prefer to buy the proofed-and-debugged version on a disk, if possible. But get it right firstly.

    quicktime is powerful

    • Written by from Portland

I'm amazed at these poor reviews. Quicktime Pro is practically an entire editing platform -- add subtitling, color effects, copy and paste to do editing, record from a webcam or mic. One of my favorite features -- create an entire stop motion movie by converting a folder of images to a movie. Then export it for the web, for DVD, for anything.

With the proper plugins, it plays nearly any format (now even wmv w/ flip4mac).
Export to nearly any format. Great fullscreen mode w/ transparent controller. These reviews strike as from people who don't understand what they're working with. I couldn't work w/o quicktime pro.

Quicktime Pro should be included with Apple products

    • Written by from Stow

Apple makes some amazing products. But being asked to pay $30.00 every time there's a Quicktime Pro update is ridiculous.

We spend enough of our hard-earned money on expensive Apple products like the G5, the small army of iPods andsoftware such as Final Cut Pro and DVD Studio Pro.

Quicktime Pro should be bundled with these products. The license should be good for two years with free updates.

My rating would be 5 stars because QT Pro is an excellent product but I'm only giving 3 stars because of the $30.00 factor.

If QT7.2 does not work properly, why QT7Pro?

    • Written by from Bradenton

I've read half of reviews and have similar problem with QT7.2...program will not open any browser video, just displays a Q with ? overlay. Have you solved this problem Mr. Applehead?

Was once a great program for professional media, now it's severely outdated and outdone by programs like Handbrake which encode 5x faster. Still has potential, if only Apple would update it to 64 bit...

quick time pro and capturing video from usb handycam...

    • Written by from Marietta

i just bought a top of the line Sony NEX VG10 Handycam thinking it was going to work great with my MacBook Pro and Final Cut Express, and it happens that I can not directly capture from my Handycam, I wonder if I could do it fromo QTPro? I had to buy a software called "ClipWrap" to convert my High Definition Movies (avchd, ,mts to .mov) then it takes a long time for Final Cut Xpress to read the files as the files are full HD, I am considering getting rid of my MacBook Pro and buying a Windows base computer to use the HD Sony video editing software that came with the NEX VG10, any suggestions/ideas? thanks

    Shortens conversion to .wmv

    • Written by from Arden

What I found is that when converting .avi files to .wmv files it removes about 25% of the footage in length. Sucky. Talk about a waste. Figuring this out and wasting a lot of time on what was supposed to be simple little project. Now after experimenting with other editors/converters I have found that do not do this. Lame.

    Stable and worthwile

    • Written by from Juneau

Although not perfect, Quicktime Pro is an astounding program when coupled with some additional (usually free) video codex from DivX and others. QT Pro, although a little slower than some of the comparable products, converts AVIs and other video to iPod format with slightly higher quality results.

Still looking forward to a little more conversion speed in the future.

    what a mistake

    • Written by from Toronto

I thought if I bought this I could record screen. Well it doesn't. It can record what camera shows. I needed to capture screen and that can be done in regular FREE version of quick time. Ctrl+Cmd+N. Found out too late.

Waist of money. I wish product was better described. well...next time.

BTW, installation was nightmare, finding application, registering is not straight forward. All in all-not happy with this software at all.
