    Sour Apple taste

    • Written by from Wynnewood

As an ex-Apple employee, it pains me to dump on this product. Others have noted all the basic problems (unannounced deleting of previous versions, requiring full Pro upgrades in new versions, inability to reload previous versions, slow processing, etc.), but to find freeware (iSquint) that does an iPod video conversion faster, at half the kb of the QuickTime file, is really an insult.
QuickTime Pro is still worth $30, but the experience leaves a bad aftertaste.
Apple marketing folks (and you know who you are) should really rethink this one.

    Pricing issues aside, great software

    • Written by from Richmond

People are complaining about not being able to upgrade, and people are complaining to pay for some basic features. (Hey Apple, Sound Recorder comes free with Windows! Why not Mac?) But still, I don't think it's fair to rate a product one or two stars just because you're not satisfied with the pricing structure. QuickTime is simply the best media standard out there, and you truly get what you pay for in this instance. If I could afford the $30 myself I'd upgrade right away.

    How Sad

    • Written by from kailua kona

I had to update to the QT 7 and all i got was a player and not the picture viewer editor that i used all the time prior..... i lost everything by updating.... this makes no sense in fact this totally sucks and i was about to buy the new Pro to edit my movies but i am too furious to shell out another 30bucks.... shame on quicktime

Happy to pay the $30 to convert iPod movies, but....

    • Written by from Monroe

.... installation needs to be more clear. I just downloaded the "key" and there are no clear instructions on where to unlock the Pro features. The instructions say to "click on buy QuickTime Pro" in the QT7 menu, which is now inaccessable. Under "Registration" I've entered the Key Code, but it's asking for a Registration Code. My "about QT7" shows no Pro features installed. What to do?

As a recent convert from the XP adware, malware, spyware maelstrom, this is small potatoes. In several months of computer bliss with my G5 and iMac, this is the first real puzzler. Overall, one half-baked cookie won't spoil the whole batch.

    Don't listen!

    • Written by from State College

Most of these reviews are just just saying that there previous edition of pro got downgraded. IT is not because of the quality of this product. This upgrade works great and I think it would be perfect for any mac user!

Don't waste your time or money

    • Written by from locke

I just purchased this program today and already have noticed how much of a waste it is. I was converting a video of mine that was on my computer, one that's only 8 minutes long, it took me well over 30 minutes to convert it. Overall the program is not worth it, I don't recommend it to others.

Good. . . but converting is SLOW

    • Written by from Sutton West

The software is excellent but the converting is slow for any file to .m4v (Ipod file). If your buying this for your ipod its a good buy considering that you can only use this program to convert files to ipod movies. I bought this program to convert home movies to my ipod and a regular movie (hour and a half) takes approx. 13 hrs to convert into a .m4v file. I would not hesitate buying this program if you have a 5th gen. ipod. But, for other uses i would not know of.

Do not purchase Quicktrick Pro 7

    • Written by from Aiken

After purchasing the product, I was still unable to read the program i was wanting to read. Buying the pro version is just unneccessary as is quicktime itself.

    Terrible...

    • Written by from Mill Valley

This product was a total waste of money. I bought it to trasfer my old videos (quicktime) to iTunes format so I could play them on my new iPod video. Besides the fact that I waited about 7 or 8 hours for a movie to be converted (that didn't end up even having sound), this product really works well. When apple says that QuickTime Pro will convert your old movies so that you can play them on your iPod, they really should mean it.

Best player to use, but insulting to customers

    • Written by from Winnipeg

First off quicktime is the best player for watching movies

But the upgrade scheme is just stupid, a rip-off and is insulting to their customers

Bundle this with iLife without stupid upgrade keys.

those complaining that there is no warning of QT Pro keys not working with the latest version do not know what they are talking about. There are multiple warnings indicating the QT 6 serials will not work in QT7.

Poof! Loss of Pro Licence After Auto Upgrade to QT7

    • Written by from New York

I use the OSX auto-upgrade feature to keep my mac up-to-date. So when QT7 was on the list of products to install I was unaware that I would lose my previously purchased licence I was using with QT6 after QT7 installed itself. (silly me had not written down my activation key anywhere - and apple sales could not find a record of my purchase - so I can't go back to QT6 Pro anyway)

Better warning of the loss of previously purchased Pro licence would be helpful.

    Upgrade fee unexpected?

    • Written by

If you were to upgrade, say Adobe Photoshop would you be surprised that you need to repurchase it? Because QT is a download doesn't make it differnt. You upgrade you pay like anything else.
On the other hand, avi support is a little weak and some features should really be included without the need for pro, like full screen.
Make money from lisencing not users Apple! To maintain QT popularity and distribution, especially to non mac users you have to provide.

Where did the software go that I paid for?

    • Written by from San Francisco

As others have mentioned it is reprehensible that installing QT7notpro was as easy as it was (if I recall correctly it got upgraded through software update) given that it would then go on to to wipe out my old key, delete the old program, and replace it with software that is crippled and basically featureless compared to the software I paid for.

To Apple, If I buy a software package from you, you best not replace it with the free version during an "update" operation. You could easily have renamed *my* software QT6 and saved the old key somewhere, you chose not to. Yes chose, I don't believe this was an honest mistake, shame on you.

I decided not to falsely rate QT 1 star, because it is a good piece of software, at least the one that I bought was, but it doesn't get more than 3 b/c there is free software that handles more media still.

    QT 7 - Good buy

    • Written by from Ottawa

Basically, I needed to be able to download source videos, an have full screen play-back for presentation.

Simply put, this is the most phenomenal QT yet.
