Reviews for QuickTime 7 Pro for Mac OS X

The Apple advertising and the "Pro only" markers in the Quicktime menus strongly suggest that QT Pro will allow you to download video files that ordinarily are streaming-only.

This is not the case.

I fell for the hype and purchased QT Pro. All the "Save as", "Export" etc items in the menu are now clickable --- but when you click them, the object that actually gets saved to your hard drive is just a 1KB link to the original streaming-only content -- you are NOT able to download video files (unless you could download them in the free version of QT).

In other words QT Pro does nothing to improve your streaming-only content experience. Apple needs to make its advertising much clearer on this point. Since I don't need any of QT Pro's video CREATION features, I will be asking for a refund. Fat chance.

BTW, the content I was trying to download was a video seminar on Apple Remote Desktop --- video content from apple.com itself --- so my problem is not caused by trying to download video from some questionable source.

I gave it a bad review a couple of days ago.. i couldn't transfer files or anything... however, after 2 days of frustration (and buying another one converter that it actually messes with the audio badly) i finally learned how the quicktime pro works... I am amazed with it and now I feel a little guilty for my bad review... if in doubt, just go for it.. it is worth its cost...

I purchased quicktime pro last week. I then upgraded to quicktime 7.0.3 two days later. The instructions state that quicktime pro is inactive and I need to purchase a new key! If this is the end result I am finished with apple.

Quicktime X is NOT COMPATIBLE with the Pro upgrade and they don't say this clearly on their site. I don't think they say it at all, and you only find this out after wasting a lot of time researching it. That an upgrade is not compatible with any newer system is ridiculous. Right HL-0-- Sloppy and Very disappointing.

I am used to installing software for the Mac, but the installation of Quicktime Pro was confusing and still cannot figure out by looking at my applications folder if I have installed the software. I figure it has been installed because I see the key numbers provided upon purchase confirmation in my Quicktime Player preferences window. But no icon showing Quicktime Pro appears, only Quicktime Player. I would have preferred a more obvious visual clue.

Ten will record a download that used to require seven pro. Quicktime Seven is not needed for OS X's new "10.6" software.

This is good

I've wanted screen-sharing forever, and this has got terrific screen-sharing recording. However, I cannot edit the files in Final Cut Express HD -- it doesn't recognize the files. If I record a screen-sharing, edit the file in Adobe Premier CS4, I cannot export the file as any format. However, if I take the original unedited files and use Adobe Media Encoder CS4; they convert fine. Hope they provide a fix-up soon. My QT 7 Pro upgrade came when I upgraded to Snow Leopard. So if you get QuickTime 7 Pro, you will get the upgrades forever--as I did from when I got it years ago.
