AnswerGarage Band is fine for this kind of thing - a few tips...
By default, when you first plug in the yeti, its not selected - just confirm you're not recording off your built in laptop mic!
Also when you add a vocal track in Garage Band, you'll note that you can choose male or female- both come with some processing - just be aware of that - you may want to play with things like dynamic range, eq etc..
Finally, with any Mic like this - most Pros will advise you to speak Across the mic instead of directly in it - this will avoid a number of audio problems such as over pronounced "P" and "B" sounds.- Answered by Jack F from Lisle

i have noticed one review that said the mike stopped working with an os upgrade. anybody used this with ios5 or macs running lion?
I would be using this microphone either with my mac mini or imac, both of which are running lion, and don't want to get it if it won't work...
I'm also curious if there is anyway it can be used with an iphone 4s running ios5?
it would be primarily for podcasting, interviews for documentaries (radio and video) and possibly for taping lectures (less important).

Is this microphone THX-Certified? Is there a difference between a Blue Yeti and a THX-Certified Blue Yeti?
I've been looking around for this microphone and I've noticed that some of them have a "THX-certified" logo on them, and while I was looking at the picture of this microphone at apple.com I can't see that logo. So my question is; Is there a major difference between a THX-Certified Blue Yeti / "Regular" Blue Yeti?

AnswerYes, it can be disconnected, but no shock mount is available to my knowledge.

Answer
I've never used this mic or any USB mic for that matter, so I can't answer your question with any certainty or authority. But I have been recording miked guitar cabs with Garage Band for about 4 years now. Based on my experience I would think that the Yeti would be less than ideal for recording a guitar amp. This is because it is a condenser microphone. In my experience simple dynamic microphones are easier to control when recording. I can recommend my own setup: a Shure SM-57 mic (about $89) plugged into an M-Audio FireWire interface (about $150). I assume you're looking for a USB mic because you can't afford the interface, but a FireWire interface will give you much more control over your recordings and serve you well in the long run. If you can't afford that - well I've managed to get surprisingly good guitar sounds from my iMac's built in pinhole mic. Don't knock it until you've tried it.

Is this a good microphone for recording meetings for later transcription of the audio? How large are the audio files for hours of meetings?

AnswerThis type of mic is great for just this type of situation. The Yeti has a variety of settings that optimise it for different room environments and recording arrangements. If you want to record two people sitting on opposite sides of the mic, you can choose the bidirectional setting. If you have the mic positioned in front of a group of people, you could use either the stereo or omnidirectional options. If you have the mic in the middle of a group, go with omnidirectional.

Is this a good mic for vocals in a music studio
- Asked by Zach B from Pine Beach
- Jan 23, 2010

Best AnswerProbably depends on what you mean by music studio. The advantage of a usb mic is that it plugs directly into your computer without an audio interface. The disadvantage is that a computer is all you can plug it into. If you're recording 6 instruments simultaneously in isolation booths, 6 usb Yeti's are not what you want! But if you are capturing a single track at a time (eg as a singer songwriter in a home studio) -- Yeti works great and the results can rival studio quality.

does this work with any Mac?
I'm thinking of buying a Macbook Air, and one of the reasons would be to use something like the Yeti with Garage Band for recording my voice lessons and practice. Would all this work?

AnswerYou can plug the Yeti Microphone into any Mac that has a USB port (including the Macbook Air) and voice recordings sound great using garageband... So yes, all that would work.

Will i be able to use a pop filter on this?
- Asked by Ritzdane S from Richmond
- Mar 10, 2010
- Flag as inappropriate
AnswerYes. It may not connect directly to the mic stand, but there is no reason why a pop filter wouldn't work absolutely fine with any microphone. It is also a good idea to set one up for this mic - it is sensitive enough to pick up those "Pops" and "smacks" that your built in iSight mic won't.

Does it plug into a camcorder to capture sound?
- Asked by Steven M from Owings Mills
- Jan 6, 2011
- Flag as inappropriate
AnswerNo.
The Yeti is a mic with an onboard analog to digital converter. The captured audio is converted to digital format for eventual transmission to a host computer over USB. A camcorder would have an analog mic port to connect to an external analog mic.- Answered by Kenneth D from Ottawa
