Will I be able to run other pedals with an apogee gio
Basically, I have two amplifiers so I run them into a pedal that connects them both together, also I have a tuner pedal, is it possible that I can run the gio through them by connecting the speaker slot on the gio, into the pedals, then to the amps?

If I wanted to use the GiO to gig with, could I still use my overdrive and boost pedals? Where would they go in the signal chain?
- Asked by Josh S from Pardeeville

AnswerThat's a Loaded Question on Effecting with a USB Audio Interface. Boost/Overdrive/Fuzz/Distortion Pedals boost the signal output a lot to cause harmonic distortion/clipping in tube amps. It's pointless to overdrive the Guitar's signal going into the GiO where You want clear and clean resolution on Input like if You have Logic Pro 9 Mainstage for Live use like say Nine Inch Nails and Reznor as example... so You have Stereo Outs on the GiO for Amps/Monitors... You're better on an Audio Interface to put them Post-FX on the Output to Amp for best Overdrive FX to amp/sound system Live. Otherwise using those pedals going into the GiO You have to turn down output on them so You don't fry the circuits in the GiO.

will i be able to use my apogee GIO with the new FRETLIGHT guitar and garage band?
- Asked by Michael M from Bennington
- Jan 18, 2011
- Flag as inappropriate
AnswerThe Fretlight has a standard 1/4" (6.3mm) instrument interface just like any other electric guitar/bass, so in theory it should work just as well with GiO and GarageBand as any other electric guitar/bass. As with any other electric guitar/bass, you would connect the 1/4" instrument cable to an amp, or to a computer via a DAC such as Apogee's GiO, ONE, or Duet.

Are there any differences between the D/A converters in the apogee duet or the Gio?
- Asked by Michael M from Bennington

AnswerI can't find the reference just now, but I believe Apogee has indicated in the past that the DACs in their "One", Duet, and GiO are all similar in output quality. One notable difference is the Duet has a sample rate of 96 kHz, while "One" and GiO are 48 kHz (all three are 24-bit).

How well does this work with bass guitar? I want to use this live with drum loops in Mainstage.
Everything I can find about the GIO talks about using it with guitar or to control Mainstage with a MIDI keyboard. I want to use this with a bass guitar.

AnswerWorks great with Bass, and GiO is a great tool for triggering loops and midi commands on Mainstage.

I already have an apogee duet. Can I use a Gio at the same time?
- Asked by Giorgio G from Madison

Best AnswerYes, you could use GiO as your controller for the Guitar Modeling in GarageBand, Logic, or MainStage, and run your guitar through the Duet.
You could also do what's called "Aggregate Device" and combine the Inputs and Outputs of GiO and Duet.
To set up an Aggregate Device: (Snow Leopard)
Go to "Audio MIDI Set Up" Application found in Utilities
Click on the + button on the bottom right of the window
Check GiO and Duet
Now when you're setting your Audio Device (Audio Input / Output)
in your Mac, GarageBand, Logic, or MainStage,
Aggregate Device will be an option along with any other device you have plugged in.- Answered by Sergio R from North Hollywood

I have a Dunlop Crybaby wah-wah pedal. Will this work as an 'expression pedal' for GiO?
- Asked by Ronan H
- Apr 5, 2010
- Flag as inappropriate
Best AnswerNo. A Wah is NOT an Expression Pedal. A real Expression Pedal is a CV pedal that was used on old Analogue Synths to Convert Voltages/CV to manipulate sounds and filters. So You'll need like a Boss/Roland Expression Pedal like their EV5/EV7 Pedals or the cooler Boss FV-500H mono High Impedance pedal that's in good metal casing and has great CV range. A regular Wah or Volume type Pedal is based on a Potentiometer that makes the sound happen and does not Convert Voltage like an Expression Pedal. Moog also makes an Expression Pedal but it's construction is not good and I had one and scrapped it for Boss.

Can I plug a microphone into the Gio for recording or do I need to also buy "apogee one"?
- Asked by Marlie D from Fort Mcmurray
- Nov 14, 2010

AnswerThe Gio does not have a microphone input. For mic, you can use a) the Apogee "One" which has an onboard mic, b) the Apogee "ONE" with an external mic (connected via XLR cable), c) the Apogee "Duet" with 1 or 2 external mics (connected via XLR cable), or d) a separate USB mic such as the "Yeti" from Blue Microphones.
The Gio, Apogee "One", and (of course) a USB mic all connect to the Mac via USB, so you'd need at least 2 USB ports free on the computer if you want to use a Gio plus one of the other USB options.
The Apogee "Duet" connects to the Mac via FireWire, so you would need a Mac with a FireWire port (ie a MacBook wouldn't work, but a MacBook Pro would).- Answered by Ken D from Ottawa

This product connects thru USB - what is the time latency between playing a string and hearing it thru the monitors?
There"s a lot of processing needed to get the analog signal from guitar into Garageband/Logic and then out to the monitors/amp etc. I've been disappointed with other modelling products as I can hear/feel a delay while playing.
Has anyone en counted latency problems or have figures in this?- Asked by Michael B

AnswerIt has a moniter out in the back as well that i've been able to use. I have a MacBook Pro 17 inch and i never have delay. I've had delay with Line 6's UX2 but thats usually from me having too many things open not having restarted my computers for a few days.

Answer
Apple's Mainstage has two plugins called loopback and playback.
It would be possible to make a template in mainstage to run a prerecorded loop in playback and record a new one one loopback then set up multiple tracks and assign specific commands to GiO's.
the LogicProHelp forum is a great place to find Mainstage templates and ask questions on how to map everything.
But yes it's possible.- Answered by Sergio R from North Hollywood

apogee gio
I understand that the duet, and one improves the sound from itunes
will the gio improve itunes sound in any way?- Asked by Michael M from Bennington
- Dec 7, 2010

AnswerYes. The GiO also includes a digital-analog converter (DAC), and can be used for improved audio output in the same manner as Apogee's Duet and "One".

Can I use this product to connect to my macbook and then connect it into a sound system, like for performances?

AnswerYes!!!
You can run the Stereo Output of GiO into a P.A., Guitar Amp, Powered Monitors, Headphones, etc.
I'm a guitar player and I run GiO through the FX Loop on my Amp. It works great because I can plug my guitar directly into the Amp and blend the FX Loop in as desired. =)- Answered by Sergio R from North Hollywood
