does it have a fan?
I need an inverter that has 12V input, and 240V output; enough for a peizzo igniter. I do not want the power draw of a fan running continuously. Will this unit satisfy these requirements?
Thanks,
Nick.- Asked by Nick D from Thornleigh

May I assume that the "peak power" spec should state 150W instead of: "Technical specifications * Peak power: 120 W for 5 minutes" ?

Best AnswerAccording to the instruction guide that came with my inverter, Output Power: 120W Continuous, 150W Peak (5 min) 75W available from EmPower airline port. It also states, "Supplies continuous power of 120 Watts, and up to 150 Watts of peak power for start-up of your portable electronic device."

AnswerIt's not powerful enough. I have the UK version of this inverter. It's well made and useful, it powers my Macbook Air fine... BUT fails to do anything more than charge the Macbook Pro 13.

Is there a fan in this adapter or is it fan-less and silent?

Best AnswerThere is a fan and it is not silent. Mine runs constantly but the fan's speed changes frequently creating an ever-changing noise. Unfortunately you cannot place the unit in the glove box.

Is a modified sine wave inverter safe for the macbook pro or do we need pure sine wave? Some talk on net that modified sine wave harmful.

Best AnswerI have a black macbook I purchased in 2006. A modified sine wave inverter would not charge the battery, or power the computer otherwise. I see Apple offers a Kensington "regulated" modified sine wave inverter for use with the macbooks. However, my brand name inverter would not work with it, though, to answer your question, it did not harm it. I use a "true" sine wave inverter with no problems to date.

HOW DO I RECHARGE MY COMPUTER IN MY CAR

Best AnswerThis is a DC to AC adapter, plug this adapter into your 12v accessory plug in your car, then plug your existing AC adapter in the 110v outlet and charge your computer just like you would at home. Cannot be used without your existing Mac AC adapter so make sure you take it along with you.

My MacBook Pro = 900mA charging, or 108W (near max cont. pwr). Does charger turn off after 120 min to protect itself? Or do I have to set my watch?

Best AnswerI have used the Kensington Inverter with the Apple 85W MagSafe Power Adapter to power my 15" & 17" MacBook Pro laptops. The output power of the inverter is listed as 120W continuous and 150W peak (5 min). According to the manual, the inverter will power off if the unit overheats or if the AC draw exceeds 150W. There is a blue LED that glows when the unit is running. The LED will glow red if the AC draw exceeds 150W (or if the inverter overheats). With the MagSafe adapter in use, my inverter's LED is blue and I have used it for 3+ hours without shutting down.
