Is the new Macbook Pro with Retina Display (released June 11, 2012) compatible with the Kensington MicroSaver Lock?
I'm interested in buying the new Macbook Pro with Retina Display (released June 11, 2012) for use when I travel. I'd like to be able to secure it to a table in case I get distracted while talking to potential customers while manning tables at a convention. The Kensington Microsaver Lock would be perfect if it works with the new Macbook.

Best AnswerYes you may use the laptop when it is locked. The lock does not inhibit functionality of the computer, it simply attaches the computer to the fixed object of your choice.

Best AnswerThere are other lock makers which work using the Kensignton slot on a computer though Kensignton is probably the most common. There are other methods for securing computers, though locks using the Kensington slot are the most convenient that I have found

That's why they give you 2 keys. Put one safely away (just in case). If you also loose the second ... well then you will have to break the lock. That is the entire goal isn't it : if you don't have the key, then you can't steal the computer.
That is why I use the locks with a numeric code instead of a key.- Answered by Jildert D

Best AnswerThere is also Maclocks security cable lock which is quite awesome since it comes with a cool clear case with ventilation slots that elevates it and make sure it won't get warmer, I use it with my MBA at school and when I study in Starbucks.
Just google Maclocks and get in to their website.- Answered by Lior Y from Ramat Gan

Will this work on the new 27" iMac? and do they make a version I can lock down an external HD on the same wire?
- Asked by Brian W from Waterford
- Nov 22, 2009
- Flag as inappropriate
Best AnswerI know that it will work on the 27" iMac, because it has the lock slot on the rear, above the power port. i don't know about whether they make a different version with two locks on one wire, and it depends which external HD you are using, some have lock slots, some don't.
if you wanted to lock down the external hard drive and the iMac, you could buy two of these cables, and connect one to the iMac, and one to the external HD if it has a lock slot.- Answered by Sam R

Answer
Almost all desktop & laptop computers have a Kensignton slot built-in, regardless of the operating system. There are many locks from makers other than Kensignton, which designed the slot to provide a universal means of securing computers. Helped them sell a few locks as well
