what is HFS+ hard drive format
HFS+ hard drive format listed as needed to run for Final Draft 8 - how can I check my mac has this format?

By Default, your mac has an extended and "Journaled" hard drive (also known as the format HFS+). You should be good, unless at some point you completely erased your hard drive, and used a windows format or an old mac format. To check, open up disk utility, and in the left hand panel, click on Macintosh HD (or the name of your hard drive). Then look at the bottom of the screen, where it will say Mount Point, format, etc. Where it says format, it should be Extended (and or Journaled), or other wise known as HFS+. If it is not (probably standard), either have a mac genius reformat your hard drive, or do it yourself by using install disks that came with your computer and an external hard drive (be careful, to much tinkering will loose your data!)

Answer
Unfortunately not, when you purchase it - Apple will send you a copy that comes in a box with a manual which contains the serial key for the program. This goes for pretty much every program Apple sells.

Answer
You can install Final Draft v.8 on as many computers as you want. Two of these can be activated at a given time.
If you have more than two computers on which you'd like to run Final Draft, you can either deactivate one computer and move the activation to another, which is 100% free (for more information on deactivating, click HERE) or you can purchase additional activations for $119 each. Note that additional activations must be used only by the registered owner only on computers he or she owns and operates- Answered by Kristopher K from Albuquerque

Answer
Yes there is, but it is only available through academic stores through the proof of a student transcript. Search on google for academic stores and pricing.
Also there is a free script writing software that is fairly competitive to this industry standard, and it will give you the same tools you need to write a script. Its called Celtx. Also, you may be able to find passed version- Answered by Anton J from Rathdrum

Final Draft does include templates for novels and other text documents. Some writers have been using it for novels, but it is primarily for TV and Film screenwriters, as well as theater writers.

There are actually no differences between the two besides the price. It is only offered to eligible teachers and students, but includes every feature as well as 2 activations (for a user's laptop and desktop).

How do I automatically transfer a PDF script not written with my Final Draft into the program?
- Asked by Jane L from Wilton

Answer
You would need to download a program that allows you to export a PDF to a Plain Text Document (.txt) and then import that Plain Text doc into Final Draft (select "Script" when prompted as to how you want to import the document). It would be a similar process if you were switching from another screenwriting software or Microsoft Word, except that you'll need to download a free program that will allow you to export out of PDF.

how do I transfer a script written in an earlier version of final draft into Final Draft 8?
I have used an earlier version of final draft (FD) and written scripts on it.
The computer ,on which the earlier FD version was attached, was a PC.
Since then I have bought a MAC and I am considering purchasing FD 8
But I would like to be able to transfer or import my old scripts onto FD 8, on my MAC.
I would welcome your response.
Thanks!- Asked by Paul D from Hughesdale
