are these speakers portable? would they be able to play from just an Ipod without needing pluged into a wall socket or computer?

You can use the 3.5mm audio cable that comes with the speakers to plug into your iPod via the headphone socket, allowing the iPhone to play through these speakers. If you have a dock you can plug the speakers into the dock then dock your iPod and have it play through the dock.
