No, the system requirements for LoJack are a PowerPC or Intel Based Mac computer running Mac OS 10.4 (Tiger) or higher. MobileMe and the Find My iPad feature would be a much better solution for iPad and costs only $69 if you buy it with an iPad at your local Apple Store.

How can loJack be effective, if i have a password.... someone steals my laptop, they can't login to connect to the internet
How can loJack be effective, if i have a password.... someone steals my laptop, they can't login to connect to the internet.. and if they can't login, they'll just change the hard drive... then puff... everything is gone.... so is lojack only useful if you don't have a password...

i just wanted to correct you, apple doesn't allow lo jack to be in the bios/flash memory... so if they reformat the hard drive it will go away. I'm a professor at University of California, and i teach a course on security... i do a lab were they must install lo jack on a mac, and lo jack is just like any other program, it doesn't have any special bios/flash place where you can store it, if the hard drive gets reformatted...
So this is true if you have a password, so if your laptop is stolen it won't be able phone home, because the theft won't be able to login to the internet.- Answered by Arian F from Merced

Can you install lo jack on an imac? Wondering if that would have saved me from a smash and grab right after I left Apple store with 27" imac?

Best Answer
Yes, you can. Any Intel-based Mac or most PC's can be protected with LoJack. It works by tracing the computer when it connects to the internet, and invariably it would considering all new iMacs have wireless capability built in.

What happens if your laptop is stolen abroad? Does LoJack work internationally?
- Asked by Tara T from New York

Best Answer
Yes it does work internationally. As long as the laptop connects to the internet, they are able to track and locate it anywhere in the world. In some countries, their success rate for recovery is higher than others because the law enforcement there is more cooperative.

Does this LoJack system work in India?
- Asked by Shaheed K from Mumbai
- Jan 26, 2010

Best Answer
Yes. The LoJack product works anywhere in the world that there is an internet connection. This means that your Mac will be able to contact the monitoring center using an internet connection from India, and should you choose to activation the Data Delete service, that will work in India as well. While the company does not currently sell LoJack in India, they have recovered stolen computers from India as well as of 50 other countries around the world.

Has anyone had any personal experience with Lojack for the Mac? Has anyone anywhere ever had a stolen computer returned via this service?
I see a lot of articles from 2 years ago but not a single reference to a computer being returned. I hear that 90% of the computers stolen in the US are shipped for resale in China, which is not covered by the Computrace agreement. No doubt, computers sent overseas are probably not counted as "stolen" in their definition so the "3 of 4 laptops recovered" only refers to those stolen and kept in the US, Canada, or UK. Please post info if you have any.

On the Mac is Lo Jack just a piece of installed software that can be removed by being deleted or is it rooted into the OS?
- Asked by Meta F from Flushing
- Nov 3, 2009
- Flag as inappropriate
Best Answer
Some laptops have LoJack installed in the BIOS meaning that even taking out the old hard drive and putting in a new one wouldn't delete the software. However, Apple's do not have that feature and therefore this software is just that, software.
To take a precaution however, the software automatically creates a partition for itself to avoid being deleted in a OS reinstall. So a basic reformat will not delete the software. A hard drive swap would however.- Answered by Danny P from Orlando

Best Answer
Yes it does work in the U.K. and the rest of western Europe. The company has offices in the UK and most importantly they have recovery officers across Europe. These recovery officers have relationships with law enforcement in these countries and that is how they are able to recover stolen computers there.

- Asked by Sarah S from Rialto

Best Answer
Yes, if your Mac is stolen it does have to be turned on and be connected to the internet so it can contact the lojack monitoring center at least once in order for the recovery team to locate it and give that location information to police so they can recover it.
