Yes, the Bose SoundDock Portable is compatible with the iPhone 4. I have both myself. The only problem is that the phone has to be seated perfectly. The pins on the iPhone 4 seems more recessed than the other iPhones. If not seated properly, you will get the "not compatible" message. I found that the dock adapters available through the Apple Online Store will solve this problem. Just don't expect to use the ZAGG shield on the back of the phone. It's too tight and will remove the shield. Hope this helps.

Answer
You will have to plug it in via the Belkin' Headphone Adapter for 3rd-generation iPod shuffle. (not a bad acc as this allows you to use better headphones with you shuffle also) you would need this to control the shuffle. The 3.5mm aux plug on the back of the Bose is where you would conect it. Bose remote will only control volume with the shuffle.

Answer
It does sounds better when you have it in a smaller area, but it still puts out pretty good sound outdoors. I use mine when I go to the beach or go camping etc. I love it.

THE COMPATIBLE CHART EXCLUDES IPOD TOUCH 3RD GENERATION WHY? does it work or not?

Answer
Was at a Bose outlet store this afternoon. Played tunes with my 3rd generation iPod Touch on both the SoundDock Portable Digital Music System and the Sound Dock Series II. That being said, there were two comments in the SoundDock Series II section that are making me think twice about purchasing this. (1) JS from Hunstville said recharging feature does not work with the iTouch. Maybe that's why this is not listed as compatible. (2) MS from Calgary mentioned a problem with the mounting port. We found that to be true when trying it out in the store but thought at that time that since we were unfamiliar with it that we weren't pushing it on firmly enough.

The bose soundock won't charge a 2nd generation ipod touch???
- Asked by Bill W from Dodge City

Answer
Any sounddock you buy now will charge all dockable iPods/ iPhones. The one exception to this is in some outlets where you can purchase a 'V1' original that will only charge using the firewire pin (in the docking connection) and this is what prevents charging on the newer iPod nanos, toch and 3g/3gs iPhone(now using the usb pin).
