can this sound system can be connected to your tv
bose companion5 multimedia speaker system

AnswerI own this set of speakers. The only way you can connect the Bose Companion 5 (BC5) is via the 3.5mm mini jack. Most televisions do not have the capability of passing sound via their USB ports (if they even have one).
What I did is find an RCA to Mini Jack converter cable, this will allow you to plug into your audio out on your television and connect directly to your BC5. (Tricky part is that you still need to adjust the sound via the BCA dial and not the TV, unless your television doesn't do a pre out RCA)
If your television only has optical audio out (toslink), then the passthrough gets a bit more tricky. You will need the following:
1. A Toslink cable to connect from your TV to a converter (mentioned in #2)
2. A Toslink to Coax (RCA) converter. Easily purchased online or at an electronics store i.e. Radioshack.
3. Finally you will need an RCA to to Mini Jack converter cable.
For this you connect the Toslink (optical audio) cable from the TV to the Converter, and then using the RCA to Minijack connect the Converter to the BC5. Again the tricky part is that you still need to adjust the sound via the BCA dial and not the TV)- Answered by Miguel S from Phoenix

How is the sound quality if connected with ipod?
- Asked by Sanjay H

Best AnswerThe sound quality is excellent, providing all the Bose clarity you come to expect from their speakers. in terms of connecting to an iPod, there is an additional input for plugging in an iPod (see the image of the round controller) To connect your ipod, you will need a double ended 3.5mm jack cable (the same connection you see at the end of your headphones, although at both ends of the cable)

It says 5.1 but the picture shows 2 speakers... Are there more speakers that aren't displayed in the picture?
- Asked by Ricky S from Bundaberg
- Apr 7, 2011
- Flag as inappropriate
AnswerNo, there are only 2 speakers. The 5.1 is achieved by Bose's own proprietary technology, called TrueSpace Surround. It basically emulates a 5 speaker system, by only using 2 satellite speakers and one Acustimass (bass) module. I have to say, to enjoy the 5.1 sound you need to plug it in to your Mac by using the included USB cable, but it's well worth the hassle.
The system sounds awesome, although it is a little overpriced. In my case I just wanted something to add more bass and mid-range output to my iMac without having to buy a huge sound system and this little guy did the trick.- Answered by Ivan S from Altamonte Springs

Is it true that there is problems using Companion (3 or 5) with mac book pro and with Snow Leopard?
In the review part it's written that it doesn't work with Snow Leopard and that because of the UBS connection sometimes the speakers power has to be unplugged from the wall and reconnected. Does someone know anything about problems?

AnswerAs of today, the problem still exist. I just bought mines a few days ago and luckily, with a lot researches before purchasing, there is a solution to still use your companion 5 with your Macbook Pro with OS Leopard installed.
Because the Companion 5 has an audio jack & auxiliary cable, you will need an "auxiliary cable to auxiliary cable." One end to connect to the companion 5 auxiliary and the other end to your Macbook Pro's audio jack. You can purchase this cable from any electronic stores, got mines from Best Buy.
This will allow full function of the Companion 5 to your Mackbook/Macbook Pro. But I hope Apple will fix this USB issue because there are people out there who loves high quality audio.
Hope this helps.- Answered by Seng Y from Charlotte

Best AnswerYou can connect these speakers to an Airport Express, but not using USB. You would need to connect a cable between the audio output on the Airport and the Aux input socket on the speakers.
There is an option in iTunes to enable/disable remote volume control when using Airtunes- Answered by Paul W from Castle Hill
