Basic: does this cable just plug into the audio mini jack on my MacBook Pro or does it require an adaptor? What about the connection to the TV?

No this is not for connecting to any of the audio in/outs on any Laptop that I have seen. For that you need a cable with a standard Toslink fiber optic connection on one end and a Toslink Mini-plug on the other.
Really strangely, even though this is the way all recent Apple laptops and (apparently) the Mini connect for Digital audio, there is not one single cable on the Apple site for this purpose. Just do a Google search for "toslink mini-plug" and you'll get plenty of results.- Answered by Bruce C from San Jose

Concerning this CS Electronic Fiber optic cable: Is this like a "splitter", getting two out of one outlet?

No. Many Fiber "connector plugs" actually utilize TWO strands of fiber. 1 to "talk" in each direction simultaneously. This fiber cord generally plugs into an SFP, which itself, plugs into a socket on a fiber channel card. Search the Apple store for item: TK720LL/A. That's an SFP. You generally need one in each socket on a Fiber Channel Switch.

I have a HD TV in the living room and was planning on purchasing the Apple TV. What is the CS Cable for? Does this connect to Cable box?

This is not a multimedia cable. Not to be confused with the Toslink cable. This is a 'multi mode' fibre optic cable. This is designed to be used for high speed data transfer. It has extremely large bandwidth capacity so your connection is not 'bogged down'.
This is obviously pointless unless you have a fibre internet plan or have a fibre home network.- Answered by Jeremy K from Texarkana
