AnswerYou could change the track with the old ones. Press twice to skip and three times to go back (in the middle where you press once to pause and play). The new ones look like they're the same.

Is the remote supported by the 2012 Retina MacBook Pro?
I understand that the remote protocol is proprietary and may not be supported well by 3rd parties, but within the Apple ecosystem, this seems reasonable?

AnswerYes, the inline controls work. You can use the volume buttons to control the volume up or down on your macbook. Pressing the center button opens iTunes, pressing it again plays, pressing again pauses, double click to skip, triple click to skip previous.

Single driver or dual driver? (driver = speaker)
Apple In-Ear Headphones with Remote and Mic has two drivers in each earpiece.
They playback portions of songs you may have been listening to for years that you probably have never heard. The cord on the In-Ear Headphones has sharp edges on the remote that catch on the collar of mens shirts and is annoying every time you turn your head. It's nice to see that the remote on the EarPods seems to have fixed the problem. The EarPods have two opening facing the ear canal, so I want to know if that is because there two drivers or not.- Asked by David B from Rye

Are these headphones as good as the ones that actually suction into your ear? I recently saw these, and I thought they were interesting looking.
By "Suction into your ear", I mean the ones that have the rubbery nubs that generally repel sounds.

AnswerThese do not physically isolate noise (as you describe). the main goal here was to make a earbud that fits the majority of human ears and stays put, and pipes the sound into the ear canal instead of washing in the general area. It is a different philosphy in speaker design- an open air seal (and resonating chamber) can make mid and low frequency sounds sound warmer and more natural, more as if you were in the room with the musician. This, however, comes at the price of noise cancellation from an airtight seal. great while running, and in most places you wear headphones, but not much help on an airplane.

AnswerIt's straight. Apple has never had an L-Shaped design to allow for the headphones to connect with third party cases.

How does the quality of these differ from Apple's in-ear headphones?
- Asked by Alfred N from New Hope
- Sep 12, 2012
- Flag as inappropriate
AnswerThey sound much warmer and clearer, and are definitely more comfortable. There will be more ambient noise, however, than the in-ears, and people next to you will hear your music if it is loud. the tradeoff is less isolation for more comfort and a more natural sound.

What is the frequency response of the EarPods?
- Asked by Craig P from Jacksonville
- Sep 12, 2012
- Flag as inappropriate
AnswerThis isn't like a lab test or anything, but I used the following site to test the frequency response, and I got 30hz all the way to 16khz, which was the limits of the test (which is meant to test human hearing limits).
(nm, it won't let me post a link, but if you google frequency response test, you'll find it at an edu address)
Anecdotally, the frequency response has been VERY good with all the music I've tested. I'm hearing stuff I've never heard from my $150 Sennheisers.- Answered by Brent P from Marina Del Rey
