I have ridiculously small ears so these, like the regular apple earbuds, didn't fit at all for me. But a couple of my friends who's ears were also too small for the regular apple earbuds have said that these fit them fine. They clearly fit a more wide variety of ears though so if regular earbuds were too big for you, there is still hope :)

Can I trade unopened new headphones in the original packaging for the new EarPods headphones?
I got an extra set from the Apple Store for backup use and never used or opened it. Knowing Apple has designed and produced an exceptionally improved one, I would love to try it without having to buy another one...

Answer
The cord of the EarPods is slightly longer than the previous headset. I can walk with my iPhone in my trouser leg pocket without any trace of the tugging there is with the headset supplied with my iPhone 4S. It's just 2 or 3 inches but for me it's significant and therefore welcome.
