Mine works fine, but the iphone 5 with the adapter makes it too big to fit into the lower console of my 550i. I'm purchasing the .2m (8") adapter and hope it works as well but allows me to store the phone outside the console.

Not necessarily. It depends on which iHome you have. If you have an older iHome dock that has a 30-pin dock connector, that you will have to separately purchase the 30-pin to 8-pin connector to make your iHome compatible with the new iPod Nano.

I confirm the yes answer. I am looking at my iPad Mini with the SD card adapter plugged in to the 30 pin adapter and it immediately recognises that there are pictures on the SD card and offers to import them.

It will work but the only thing is that it might be very wobbly and your iPod/iPhone/iPad might not fit because of the extra height from the connector
